Super cute and unique theater. You will love this place especially if you’re a big film buff. This was the first date we went in after moving to the UK from the states and was pleasantly surprised at just how cool this movie theater was, far from average. It’s small and only a few small screens - but a much better experience. They play a large variety of films, and have lots of special screenings from what I gathered. One being a “mothers screening” during the week where moms with small babies can go watch a movie at a lower volume with dim lights with only other mothers and babies in case of an outbursts a child may have. I thought this was a lovely idea for mothers who may be bored and lonely to still get out of the house and have some fun when they have a little one. Downstairs is a restaurant and bar, which is perfect. Upstairs are the screens. The prices and reasonable and the service was great. I love the decorations and all the movie references and artwork. It really was a great pick me up after such a big and scary move for us with the military and meant a lot to us as huge film fans to find this place.

Lovely independent theatre with very comfortable seating, a great selection of snacks and drinks, and it's always a better time than going to a big chain. Staff are always helpful and polite. A fantastic gem to see your favourite film.

Always love visiting Abbeygate. An amazing mix of old and new, art and blockbusters! I love the staff and their enthusiasm for film. Also love how they ask their customers what they should put on and that they have special showings for new mums and babes, dementia friendly or older person shows. Their family matinee each weekend is great value and their family ticket is cheaper than two adults at other cinemas! Great value in comfy seats and you get to take your drink from the bar in with you like a grown up! Love it here!

Great little cinema. Wonderful comfortable seats with armrests, plenty of leg room & cushions. Nice atmosphere. The film was 3 hours 20minutes long so the luxury was welcome We We will be back. Great film as well.

Just had dinner in the No 4 restaurant - the Sunday roast was great and the bouillabaisse was fantastic. Such good food, friendly staff and good value for money! So pleased to support an independent business

A beautiful little cinema steeped in Bury St Edmunds history. It has three intimate screens with a mix of seats and sofas for comfort. If you're making a day/night of it, get there early to enjoy something to eat. I've been going here for 30+ years, in that time both me and the cinema have grown. I may have swapped my Cadbury buttons for a glass of wine, but cosyed up on a sofa it feels like a home from home 🥰
