Beautiful.. worth the visit. Even more impressive in real life. Easy parking, easy walk - and there was even an ice cream van in the car park when we visited - in October!

A definite go to if you are in the North East, and imposing structure that has a real element of peace and tranquility. Free parking which is a bonus. There are some pathways but to take the best photos you need to walk more on the grassy banks, these were very muddy in places. Not a large number of people there but those that were cordial and allowed people the necessary time to get family pics without having strangers in the background.

Lovely, peaceful area to admire an amazing sculpture. Certainly is better to come here on a sunny day, and as you can see, you get beautiful photos. The pathways are smooth, however there are a couple that are steep and rough, so please watch your step. Also there is a coffee stand here too, which is an added bonus, and chargers for electric cars. Benches to sit on as well, so I could easily spend the day here people watching. You also get a great view of Gateshead and beyond. Well worth a trip up here.

The Angel of the North is a 208 tonne steel sculpture that is 20 metres high and 54 metres wide. You can see the sculpture from the A1 dual carriageway. Obviously, it's not easy to get a good look at the sculpture when driving or take any photographs, so it's best to head for the free nearby carpark located off the A167 (Durham Road) just like I did. Look for the gap in the bus lane to access the car park. I arrived at 5.15pm in September so the sun was quite low. This provided some nice lighting effects for my photos! When seeing someone standing at the base of the sculpture you can really appreciate the size of it! It's well worth a trip if passing or visiting the area.

It's an iconic sculpture that we just had to see on our visit to Newcastle... Can be easily accessed by road... Plenty of parking spaces available but I have read it can be quite busy some days... I'm guessing weekends... We visited on a Monday it was quiet... The statute is set on a mound within a picnic area... So enjoy... just simply take a couple snapshots and leave or sit and enjoy the view with a coffee and a Sandwich...

I was more impressed than I thought I would be. I put the drone up and I may have got this wrong but I’m sure I saw a face behind the metal work? Could be my my mind anyway it was worth stopping for and it was very impressive when you stand at the bottom of it so I’d recommend anybody to actually not just drive past on the A1. Just stop and go to the car park and have a wander it’s lovely.

My friends and I went here on a sunny weekend in summer. We took the bus from the mall to get here. Not a lot of people go here usually, since it’s an hour out from the city but that day is such a perfect day there was tourists and groups of people coming and going the whole time we were there. It was lively! Across the road from the sculpture, there is a field. Definitely not accessible but if you get up there in summer there are a lot of daisies! It has a really nice trail up the hill and bonus: you can still see the Angel of the North. If you’re bored with the same vantage point of the sculpture, you can try going there.

Really good to be able to stop, park and look at this rather than see it when driving past. Parking is free (+). Paths round it so of it's rainy or muddy you're still okay. Impressive close up but better take pictures from a distance cos it's big. Did like it but we had been spoiled by the Kelpies in Scotland earlier that day

Great sculpture, you can see on the picture the weldings everything's very rough and simple. A piece of History that I think deserves to be looked after in just a little bit better way. On the car park on occasions you gonna see coffee station and small van with ice cream but as far as I understand they are here most of the weekends or on a kid's holidays not everyday. It is easy to get here there is quite a lot of parking spaces and it's not a long walk from the car park to the top of the hill. Old high recommended to anyone passing by just pop in and have a look for yourself.

Anthony Gormley's 20 metre high Angel. She represents the Industrial past and information technology future. The sculpture marks the location of a mine near Gateshead where miners laboured for over 200 years. It's free to visit and there's usually a coffee van and an ice-cream van...no toilets. The site is very close to the built up part of Gateshead although it looks remote, it stands proud just outside Newcastle on the main A1 road. It's estimated that around 33 million people see her every year as they drive past.

    1. Just something about it, makes you want to visit to know you was in Newcastle. 2. Ice cream van has been there when I have been. Everything has been in stock too, so great choice. 3. Park area to chill 4. There is parking and benches. 5. Great place for Dog walking and taking pictures. 6. There is an electric point now to charge your Electric cars. 7. You can fly you Drone here as of 10.11.22 but this could change. Did not see any warning signs.

Quick stop here before exploring a bit of Newcastle. It's a bizarrely small park, surrounded by quite busy roads and building work, however the visit still exceeded expectations! It's really impressive - absolutely massive, amazingly engineered, and just a really cool thing to stop and see! Well worth it. Free parking. Not loads, but we went on a Sunday and there was more than enough space.

Well worth the visit with an easy accessible car park right next to it. Most people drive by and don’t actually get up close but it’s definitely worth the extra few minutes to really get a good Idea and feel of what it’s all really about.

It's really is big!! didn't realise until we were right next to it. Plenty of free parking do allow 20 - 30 minutes to go and see it.

When we were young I thought this was like up a huge hill and far away but it’s just off the motorway which is kind of wild. It’s quite cool to see it up close. There is a coffee stand which must rake it in but no toilets. There’s also a memorial garden people have made for those they have lost.

Imposed architecture on the outskirts of Newcastle (Gatehead). The sunset views are beautiful. There tends to be parking most days and is free. There are a couple of charging points for electric car users as well. Nice greenery where you can even have a picnic depending on the time of the year

Fantastic location to enjoy the view of the immensely built Angel of the North. Good spot for walking as well as taking a break with snacks or brew! The cost was Β£800,000 to build in 1997 and has three purposes; 1. Reminder for the Coal worker over 200 years 2. For hope and fears 3. Find out by visiting the place :)

Our holiday would not have been complete without a photo stop at Antony Gormley's iconic steel artwork! We approached it along the A167 road. The parking area is small with limited spaces, but it's free, and there were not many visitors when we were here in October. It's a short and easy walk up a grassy hill with footpaths to the statue. It was not until we got up close to it that we really appreciated the Angel's immense size - 20 metres tall (or 66 ft, that's about the height of a five-storey building!), with a wingspan of 54 metres (177ft). Great views and opportunities for photos and selfies, and we could also get ice-cream from a vendor at the car park. There's plenty of grassy space to stroll and enjoy a picnic, but be aware that there are no toilets here. Well worth making a stop to see this impressive North East landmark.

The Angel of the North in Newcastle is a must-visit landmark that never fails to impress. Its grandeur and iconic presence make it a joy to photograph, and its significance as a symbol of the region is truly awe-inspiring. Don't miss the chance to experience this remarkable piece of art. πŸš— Free parking

This is an remarkable sculpture that you must see if you visit Newcastle. Can be easily accessed by road and can be seen from 10 miles away. Plenty of free parking available very close to the landmark. The statue is set on a mound. So enjoy the sight and make sure to take pictures. Furthermore, there is a lot of space for a picnic.

The Angel of the North is a great sight to behold. Though cold and understandably so, it’s lovely to see something that holds such history. Make sure you cover up properly especially during winter.

Very tall statue. A symbol of pride and endurance. A must see if you go to Newcastle. Awesome in every way, and a feeling of magic when you stand by it. You'll come away with a smile on your face. I promise.

A visit to an iconic sculpture, it has become more than piece of art work. It is now surrounded by trees and bushes that have become shrines to departed family and friends. My 7 year old grandson asked about the photos and ornaments that had been hung up, I explained that the Angel of the North was now looking over them in heaven, he was visibly moved by some of the photos of little ones

Free parking. Electric car recharging point. Nice surrounding green area to walk around. At the moment of posting there are roadworks occurring within the area. It is accessible via a one-way system which less easy to access.

Easy to get to, it's sign posted of the A1 very well, free carpark next to it, there was also an independent coffee van selling really good quality coffee for Β£2.70. There is a path to follow. It really is marvelous to see in person. I also went to the discovery museum in Newcastle and watched a video and watched footage on how it was built in Hartlepool and transported.

  • 3/5 Matt G. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing huge sculpture made of steel, worth a quick stop if you are traveling past on the A1 as its literally 2min off the motorway. Couple of things to note... 1) there is parking but no facilities (e.g. coffee shop or toilets), 2) There is a pathway to and around sculpture but to get the best view you will want to go on the grass, which can get a bit muddy. 3) getting back on the A1 is a bit tricky as you are forced to go left out of the car park and in to town, and you will need to do a U turn a mile of so down the road.

It's a nice place to visit if you like modern-day monuments. The scale is impressive and has an almost spiritual feel to it. There were quite a few people there taking photos when I visited. The car park is a few steps away. Free to visit atm

It is a thing of beauty, nice wee carpark, walking area. Plenty space to get all the photos you could ask for! However, bare in mind what it is, there are no other attractions there (yes, someone asked what else was there to do...)

Free parking, lovely to walk around the structure and check out all the tributes left for those who depated this World. Just below in amongst the trees, lovely pictures and thoughts.

It's always a welcome sight when driving past this iconic Angel but we finally took time to visit and stand under this powerful icon of the North East. Well worth a visit for a few minutes.

If you are going past Gateshead on the A1 you have to stop off to see the Angel of the North. It’s such an iconic sculpture. Really impressive The car park is quite small and I’ve heard in the past you need to make sure your car is locked etc.

  • 4/5 Adam M. 6 months ago on Google
Pretty impressive really. Really easy to get to from the A1(M) and well signposted...although the local roads mean it's a bit of a faff getting back out ha! Plenty of parking including disabled accessible and some sockets for plugging your electric car in if you're that way inclined. I did imagine it was going to be bigger, but still a very impressive bit of art for something so modern. Still not sure if it's meant to be male or female though?

  • 5/5 Lim Soon S. 1 year ago on Google
It's everything I expected. Nice picnic spot and easy to get to. Just had to jump on the 21 bus from the middle of Newcastle. There's nothing else around there but there was a ice cream truck (in June) and a coffee truck (not sure if they sell food).

  • 5/5 Jean R. 2 years ago on Google
Before the bus lanes came the Angel of North was my home marker leaving and returning. Now I'm lucky if a fleeting glimpse so decided to visit. It's a very peaceful place. Didn't stay long as had children who got bored quickly as they weren't allowed to climb up 🀣 I can understand why people are now putting memorials on trees in surrounding area.

  • 5/5 Angela B. 1 year ago on Google
We picked a great time to see The Angel, there were only a couple of people there when we arrived. It is a magnificent piece of sculpture & it is well worth stopping by. There is easy parking & paths to walk around it. Would recommend.

  • 5/5 Natasha P. 1 year ago on Google
I thought it was an impressive statue and the setting although off a main road had a relaxing feeling. There was a food van selling coffee etc. The one downside is there are no toilets so the visit is always going to be a quick one rather than a stop and a coffee.

  • 5/5 Matthew H. 10 months ago on Google
One of the most recognisable sculptures in the UK. When driving into the north you must stop here to see it. There is a decent amount of parking and a nice path towards it, you will need to walk off-road to get in front of it to get a photograph.

  • 5/5 Laura M. 8 months ago on Google
Easy enough to travel to via car. Car park is 30 seconds away (if that) from the Angel of the North. An iconic landmark of the North East.

  • 5/5 Beth P. 1 year ago on Google
Lovely visit to the Angel of the North in the sunshine. It’s a lovely addition to the landscape, very accessible from the main road and plenty of space in the carpark.. no refreshments or shop there but there was an ice cream van for our visit! It’s an even and pathed walk from the carpark and it’s very accessible to get to the monument. You can walk down a gently grass slope for a long distance view and there are some touching tributes there to lost loved ones; the real angels of the north. There is no fee to pay to enter or for the carpark nor any queues to join and plenty of grassy spaces and benches from which to admire this impressive sculpture. A lovely visit.

  • 4/5 Josie B. 11 months ago on Google
What an amazing sight on such a beautiful day. Always wanted to come and see this. Although I did think it was on a hill in the middle of vast fields but turned out to be at the side of a dual carriageway (still on a hill though lol). Once you've seen it, there isn't anything else to do but take pictures and leave. Great pictures though and it was free to see!

  • 4/5 Nigel D. 2 years ago on Google
Cool to drive past but even more impressive when you take the time to pull off the A1 and take a leisurely stroll right up to the statue.
