The Tyne Bridge is an iconic landmark in the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. It was built in 1928 and is a symbol of the city's industrial heritage. The bridge spans the River Tyne and connects Newcastle and Gateshead. It is a popular destination for tourists visiting the North East of England. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the city and the river from the top of the bridge, which is accessible by foot. The bridge also offers a unique opportunity to experience the city's history and architecture up close.

The most well-known of the seven bridges that cross the river between Newcastle and Gateshead, the busy Tyne Bridge is a marvellous piece of early 20th century engineering. You have to stand underneath it to appreciate its sheer size. It stands 194ft tall, and when it was opened by King George V in 1928, it was the world's longest through arch bridge. Enjoyed some really good close-up views of it on a very pleasant walk along the Quayside, and also from the neighbouring Swing Bridge. Brilliant photo opportunities. Did not get to walk across it, but saw spectacular views of the river and city landmarks on both sides as we crossed it on a coach journey out of Newcastle.

Glad, I crossed the River Tyne on foot from its Southern bank at Gateshead towards Newcastle upon Tyne on the Northern bank via Tyne Bridge on foot to admire this beautiful specimen of early twentieth century engineering. This through arch bridge is almost identical in design (though much smaller in length, width & height) to Sydney Harbour Bridge, Australia. Both were simultaneously designed by the London based Hay, Mott & Anderson whilst construction was by the Tyneside contractors Dorman Long. Hence the debate which is older of both depends on which perspective you take into account. Based on completion, Tyne Bridge is older (1925-1928) whilst in the commencement of construction as basis it's Sydney Harbour Bridge(1924-1932).

Nice-looking bridge. There's lots of room on either side for pedestrians and cyclists, etc. Mostly, it gets you easily to and from the Grey Nag's Head in Gateshead. Cool views of the city and the fun neighborhood below the bridge on the west side, Newcastle side.

Having lived in Newcastle for close to decade, this landmark of the North East is always close to our heart. Coming up to a century since commissioning, this bridge across the Tyne river connects the twin cities of Newcastle and Gateshead. The best way to explore Tyne Bridge is to park at the Sage Gateshead concert hall. You could walk through Sage enjoying its splendor and walk down to the Gateshead Quayside. One could pass underneath the Tyne Bridge, and then walk across the swing bridge, which presents ample photo opportunities to capture all the landmarks in one frame - Tyne Bridge, millennium bridge, both Quayside and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. A leisurely walk across the Newcastle Quayside follows, which is littered with restaurants representing cuisine across the world. Then one could cross the Tyne back by walking on the Millennium Bridge to arrive back at the car park. Millennium Bridge is a sought after photo spot too. Overall this is a fantastic way to explore the Tyneside.

My train was terminated unexpectedly at Newcastle, so I had a little time before the next train to see the bridges and the castle that I normally only glimpse from the train on the way to Scotland.

The promenade are great and romantic, especially in evening/ night time. The day view did not impressed us so much, so we just did some shopping at nearest big market till perfect time.

Visited the tyne Bridge last week, as my son was wanting to see it. We have watched programmes on how it was made, and it lived up to expectations, just be careful when walking under it, seagulls are a good at doing dirty on you. We also drove over the bridge, great views. Was well worth the visit, and we were not disappointed. Would recommend and would visit again.

Always worth a walk on or under or even both even if it's just to appreciate the size and scale of the engineering or more conventionally the beautiful view.

Classic designed iron bridge crossing the river Tyne in Newcastle. The Tyne Bridge is a through arch bridge over the River Tyne in North East England, linking Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead. The bridge was designed by the engineering firm Mott, Hay and Anderson,[2] who later designed the Forth Road Bridge, and was built by Dorman Long and Co. of Middlesbrough.[3] The bridge was officially opened on 10 October 1928 by King George V and has since become a defining symbol of Tyneside. It is ranked as the tenth tallest structure in Newcastle.

Beautiful architecture. Great place to hang around with friends and family down the river side.. Looks fab specially in the evening. Also a great spot for photography from the high bridge. The fantastic Tyne iron Bridge is one of the defining symbols of Newcastle and an engineering marvel. No any visit to this city is complete without seeing this bridge. Originally I thought it was a traffic bridge only and didn't realise it was possible to walk across it. Do walk across it and you'll be rewarded with amazing views of both the High Level and Millennium bridges.

It’s a bridge , it’s iconic , I have ran across it many times. I don’t know why people leave negative feedback for this bridge , they can only be trolls and need to get over it.

We preferred to cross over from the Tyne bridge. There are a couple of other bridges but lower down, below. The views from the Tyne Bridge are particularly great especially at night! It's definitely a trademark of the city's industrial age! 4 stars because the bridge does need a little maintenance. But during the day the stunning views high up of the city, landscape, cathedrals and river are well worth it!

I don't know the bridge very well... But I saw it from my hotel and it made a real impression. It's both a juggernaut of industrial proportions and a real thing of beauty at the exact same time. Something that few structures manage to achieve!

Such a beautiful bridge over Tyne river, never get bored viewing it, especially in the evening. Get the city and river view from above, magnificent!

Pictured is a view from the bridge. The Tyne Bridge is a road first and foremost, and the traffic tends to make noise, but that’s because the Tyne Bridge was made to support the M1 system that passes into it. If you can get past that, you are awarded with an amazing view of the River Tyne.

One of the most famous bridges in the United Kingdom, if not the world. A key piece of history that is the symbol of Newcastle. When walking around you must visit this bridge and if you get the opportunity to drive across it you must. You cannot visit Newcastle without seeing this bridge.

Tyne Bridge, a construction regarded as the symbol of Tyneside's Geordie pride, but also a product of Dorman Long's Teesside workmanship. Its an iconic structure aswell as a landmark so as a teesside lad myself it was only right I go check it out for myself and it was amazing and well worth the visit.

The most beautiful bridge, surrounded by lights and in the heart of the city. On the weekends, there are markets on right on the quayside. A big walk along the quayside is also available. Many restaurants, bars and cafes in the area, making it the perfect place for a night out!
