When we decided to elope in Scotland, we knew we needed a kilt! My husband's clan origins come from the Isle of Lewis and luckily for us, Celtic Clothing was right in Stornoway. We almost waited too late to get started - maybe 6 weeks prior. Speaking with Bernadette via email and telephone we were able to get the tartan colors we wanted ordered and although I was terrible at measuring, she created a masterful kilt without us being there. She was also able to save a strip of the material for me to use as my belt on my wedding dress. Bernadette is awesome! Once we got to her shop and he tried it on - it was perfect! Celtic Clothing also hires out full attire and sells many styles of sporrans, brogues, sgian dhubs, hose, belts and other accessories. We purchased the kilt, sporran, hose, sgian dhub and dress shirt and hired out the vest, jacket and brogues. We were leaving out early the morning following the wedding but Lews Castle held the hired items to be retrieved. The total cost was maybe $500-$600 US dollars, but SO WORTH IT! If you're going to get a kilt, get it done by a Scottish master seamstress! And definitely contact them 2 or more months in advance as tartan material must be special ordered.
