A fantastic day out for the whole family. There's a little trail of Lego figures for the kids to find as they go round. There's plenty of parking, no wait to enter and the staff and volunteers were extremely helpful and friendly. Under 5s go free, likewise for Blue Light Card holders. The World War 1 trench is well worth a visit!

An absolutely first class military museum, well managed with outstanding exhibits with a knowledgeable and friendly staff, a history lesson in itself. Also a comfortable and clean cafe area with very reasonable prices. Not to be missed if you’re anywhere in or around Aberdeen.

My Grandad was a Gordon Highlander during the war. As I am visiting Scotland for the first time I was advised to go here. Its quite small but the family ticket makers it a reasonable price. I didn't learn too much that I didn't already know from family stories of his time there however a curate took the time to talk to us. He explained that once covid restrictions had gone they would probably return to undertaking research requests and would hopefully help find some more information. They have little lego figures around for the children to find so that helped keep my youngest amused

Nice and interesting museum to visit at any time, it can take one to two hours to see all the exhibits. They welcome you very kindly and there are several guides to take care of you. They also offer you a little tour through a full-size World War I trench with all its props including a machine gun nest. The coffee lounge is also very nice and convenient.

A wonderful museum with an impressive collection. The building itself is pretty and has all the modern amenities which allow comfortable experience for guests of every age/ability. There's a lot to see inside, but it's not overdone. All exhibition rooms are well-designed and very aesthetic. There are also some interactive elements. I have to say you don't need to be a military freak to enjoy this. A lot of stuff like the silverware collection or little bits and pieces of soldiers' equipment can be interesting to everyone. I however am a freak so I especially enjoyed the weapons collection, medals from many different campaigns and of course the famous WW1 trench which is located on the outside. Sadly it was raining when I visited so I didn't take pictures, but on the other hand it only added to the experience. Hats off to the folks who designed and built it, it's a work of art. There was a young guide with us, who was super-passionate about WW1 and had a great storytelling talent. For more sensitive audience and kids this may be a slightly heavy topic, so keep that in mind. All in all, one of Aberdeen's top attractions. A definite must-see.

My wife and I visited the Gordon Highlanders' Museum during our two-week road trip around Scotland. We were staying a couple of days in central Aberdeen, pre-booked, and walked there. It is well-signposted and easy to find. It was quiet when we arrived, and we walked straight in. There is a self-guided audio tour (push the button on the device and get the commentary), as well as a number of friendly, roving volunteer guides. We used a combination of both. It is a most interesting museum, explaining the foundation, history, battles and fate of the regiment, providing the stories of great derring-do and 19 Victoria Crosses (11 of which are exhibited). You'll also find a section of Sadam Hussein's bedroom. Weather permitting, there is an outside re-construction of a WW1 trench. Make sure you take a guide with you, as ours really brought the exhibit to life with the stories of the harsh experiences of the soldiers dug-in and fighting there. There is a small cafe and a small shop.

Great to visit the Gordon Highlanders museum again after its reopening last month, having been closed for 15 months due to the pandemic. The new cinema and film charting the regiments history is a superb addition and the boys enjoyed the Lego minifigure hunt around the museum. The café has had some remodeling too and the quality of food and drinks is still to the same high standard.

Guide tour and all the staff were so welcoming and nice! Plus the cafe had a delicious gluten free cake!! The museum itself takes you through the history of the Gordon Highlander's batalion first with a video recap, and then through a series of vitrines exposing important objects and cloth items recapping each achievement.

Fantastic staff, very friendly and informative on the exhibition. The exhibit itself is great because it not only provides great photo opportunities but also has interactive parts for kids. I also recommend checking out the gardens at the back.

Fascinating museum, friendly & knowledgeable volunteer tour guides. Well worth a visit, especially to the trench! Davide very welcoming and Marcus was a charming and engaging guide. Tea room was very popular, suggest allowing more time than you think you’ll need. Great bits for children/young people too, especially the array of tiny uniforms to try on! Great little gift shop too.

One of the best museums I have visited in many years - including London. The replica 1st world war trench was an eye-opener even for a history buff. We had a fantastic guide who was very knowledgeable over the details. I do feel a little sad that such great and famous regiment, with a second to none fighting history, is no more. Victim of cost saving and consolidation. Long may their memory endure.

Cannot recommend it highly enough. What an incredibly warm welcome, which continued, (I also quickly visited the cafe, where i had a tasty but generous slice of cake) I met some museum managers as I explored, we chatted about the events and history, was even offered a Christmas chocolate by staff as I left. Lots of history, but the visit made by the people. The museum used the last few years wisely, the presentation of the galleries is great, easy to read interpretation, with clear font, graphics and nicely laid out cabinets. It feels updated and modern, yet has lots on display to appeal to history lovers. Also great if you like swords and silverware.

A wonderfully comprehensive museum, set in a beautifully historic building in Aberdeen. The exhibits are impressive, and you are given a phone recorded guide to go around the museum at your own pace. The staff are all enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and the tours are also child friendly.

First time here and I have lived in Aberdeen my whole life. It was a thoroughly enjoyable visit, staff was all friendly and was on hand to give information if needed though there is plenty of information to read as well. I Really enjoyed the armour room and the trench was good as well. I spent a good couple of hours here and think I need to go back to make sure I got everything. They also have an excellent cafe here as well.

A lovely history and museum of the Gordon Regiment. The staff are fantastic, full of knowledge and friendly. The cafe is nice and well priced. Both a haunting and humbling experience especially with the trenches.

Beautiful old building and nicely arranged exhibition. Try a guided tour if there is available. We really enjoyed the guided tour with a volunteer retired army officer. The trench outside the building is also very interesting

The most impressive experience we ever had in a museum visit. My partner and I visited the museum yesterday. We arrived with a warm welcome and informative introduction. The design of the visit flow is amazingly smart: starting with a video and then a pathway by critical moments in history, then there was a very knowledgeable lady who brought us to the replica of trenches in WWI and told us many interesting stories. All the staff there were very passionate, friendly and professional. I'd have rated this with 10 out 10. Highly recommended if you have an afternoon time to visit this wonderful place.

An excellent museum to visit. We were welcomed warmly and had three different guides to take us around the many different, interesting and beautifully displayed exhibits. It was also interesting to listen and converse with the guides, who had an obvious pride in The Regiment and took pleasure in sharing their knowledge with us. We were also taken to the replica of a WW1 trench, which we found fascinating. To have this lifelike insight into the horrendous conditions experienced by these brave men was humbling. So, a big thank you to you all at the museum. Barbara and Jean.

I visited a couple weeks ago with my daughter - who humored me, she knows I like military history. It was a wonderful visit with a charming guide (George, thank you for the tour!) who made it all livelier by his own recollections of the most recent times of the regiment. The museum is well-documented, with plenty of items donated by the families of former soldiers and officers, and explains the history of the Highlanders very well. There's a short visit outside at the end on WWI which was interesting and well set-up too. Then we had a quick but satisfying lunch on-site, and I bought my very own quaich, which I use proudly but am still unsure how to pronounce. All in all, we had a great time. Thanks to all the friendly staff there for a beautiful couple of hours that will remain a great memory of my vacations. I heartily recommend the place and I can't wait to come back to Scotland.

Military museum, very clean and nice exhibits. The audio player I had did not work very well, but everything was clearly labeled on the cases It cost me £7 to enter. There were areas I would not have gone to if an employee passing by hadn't mentioned them. I wish the layout of the museum was more clearly marked for where to go. One of the employees at the front could have been friendlier, she made remarks to other employees and also to me on the way out that made me feel she really didn't want to be there. What made the museum worth while for me was the guide I had for the trench outside. He (early 60s, used to teach microbiology) was very patient answering my questions and quite knowledgeable.

Great museum with amazing volunteers who give you a tour through the museum and you can stay as long as you like to explore the things you're interested the most after the tour ended. The highlight was definitely the trench replica outside.

It is a small but very informative museum about the Gordon Highlanders. It's worth a visit if you're in Aberdeen and the weather isn't great. Combine it with a visit to the near by Johnston Garden for three hour itinerary.

Absolutely brilliant, newly renovated and with a fantastic cafe what more would you want while supporting the history of a regiment once declared by Churchill "the finest regiment in the world"

We couldn’t go round the museum because it was fully booked. We didn’t know that you had to book online. Instead of going round the museum we went to the cafe instead. The cafe is nice and the food is nice too. Just wish that they’d had a bit more of a gluten & dairy free selection. This can be quite hard at a lot of places though.

What a superb museum. The self guided audio tour was really easy to use and a great way of going through the museum at your own pace. Some great exhibits along with a couple of short films. We'll worth a visit.
