What an amazing place to visit! Spectacular road and views on the way to the waterfall, lovely Ben Nevis. Moderate walk, only 6.5 km return, but what a view! Beautiful mountains, lots of waterfalls all way around. Rope bridge to get closer to the waterfall, a bit of adrenaline there. It is a "must visit" place and I was very surprised that we not been here yet! Highly recommended!

Whether it's winter or summer, this is a great walk. The first part from the carpark up to the Glen can be a bit of a scramble in places, especially if wet. Once in the glen, though, it's much easier walking conditions. Don't just stop at the falls, though. Take the path to the head of the glen. it's worth it.

Absolutely stunning site. Parking was easy to get to. The walk was relatively easy and once down by the falls the scene was beautiful, we went over the wire bridge and down by the falls. Weather overcast but doesn't take away from the breathtaking views. Would be absolutely amazing to have a summer picnic here.

A Must-Go place in order to witness one of the best waterfalls in Scotland. The trekking is quite challenging but doable! Took us about 45 minutes to reach the falls, but once you are up thereโ€ฆ Wow! It is indeed a lovely place to be with the scenic beauty of the Nevis Gorge around you.

A great walk along Glen Nevis with the waterfall at the end. It's mostly easy, but there are a couple of places where you need to take care. Not one for people with mobility restrictions. Get to the upper car park early to get a space!

Beautiful waterfall and an amazing day out. It's about 30 mins walk on a rocky path intersected by streams and gorgeous views along to the falls. You can either cross the river to the falls on the tripwire, which is pretty easy or cross barefoot to save on wet shoes, just check yourself for ticks after. Much better to get parked at the upper car park as the lower is about 1.7 miles further to walk and it's a bit of a steep one, unless you welcome the extra walk, and the lower falls are also nice.

Huge waterfall in a beautiful location. One of the best short walks in Scotland, this route heads through the dramatic and beautiful Nevis Gorge and leads to the awesome Steall Falls. Clear, well-walked path throughout, but the path is very rough and rocky with steep drops and good footwear and care is needed.

I found Steall Waterfall to be unexpectedly much more scenic than I expected. It might sound daft but I got the impression from just the couple of photos I saw that there would be a long gravel path from the nearby closest car park, to a large waterfall that would impress my partner and daughter. But for me (a fairly decent hill walker) it would be just nice enough to justify the effort of dragging the other two up ๐Ÿ˜ But it was in fact excellent, the walk from the car park wasn't too far, but it was much more interesting than I expected. Just a smidgeon of a hint of a mostly avoidable scramble here and there to make it more adventurous for my young daughter. But also more tree cover and shade than I expected from the sun, with excellent views peeking out of the gaps. I wouldn't let small children run off ahead because although you would have to be quite careless to fall over the edge, they/you could definitely get unlucky if there's not some care applied at one or two points. Don't let me put you off, I saw all types of people walking up there accident free, and the path is always quite wide but sometimes rocky and tree rooty. All that is before you get to the waterfall... After about 30 minutes or so you'll pop out of the tree cover into a wide open almost plateau spot. Very safe, very flat.. kids can play in the shallow river with all basic common sense applied. Then there's a short windy path to the waterfall itself, which you'll see no problem! 5 minutes walk will take you to a quite shallow river with a few stones lobbed in, to cross at your favourite point. Or you can have a pop at the steel cable 'bridge'. I crossed on that and unless you're quite short (the hand cables are high and wide-ish) or nervy, you should be grand getting over. Just don't fall back in at the higher opposite side ๐Ÿ˜… That will take you to the last bit of a walk to the very base of the waterfall. It was a week into a very dry period when I was up there and you could practically stand at the base of the waterfall and just get damp! So it's not a dangerous spot to get some impressive photos from. Around the river that leads away from the falls there's plenty of sitting space on a nice day. We saw an Eagle! Winner. Also, remember to take your gubbins home with you.. the amount of disrespect given to the outdoors since covid lockdown restrictions were lifted is mental. Places like this don't have bins or cleanup teams. Why people come to these places to enjoy the outdoors and think it will be grand to leave rubbish behind for others is beyond me, littering really is the base proof you're a fool and a wannabe. Nobody thinks you're a crazy rebel because you don't carry your bottle back down... just makes you a spanner. You likely drove in, so drive it back or just look at other people's photos and pretend you went ๐Ÿ‘ you know who you are.. ๐Ÿ˜ถ

A beautiful waterfall reachable after about a 45min walk along a trail. Parking is available at the start of the trail but can get crowded. There are also taxis from Fort William which can drop you at the start of the trail. Midgets, as in other places in the Highlands, can be troublesome especially in the fields near the waterfall. Visited on a late summer afternoon. The experience of the walk and the visual treat of the fall is highly recommended ๐Ÿ‘Œ

This hike is a must if you're in the area. Stunning waterfall and scenery. I recommend hiking a mile or two further thru the valley after checking out the waterfall, along the river. One of our top walks/hikes.

Parking was easy, climb up takes about 30-40 minutes. We had a 3 year old with us and it was a bit tricky in places but otherwise great walk to the waterfall. Once at the destination the views are amazing and you can dip your tired feet in cold water. Take a picnic with you so you can rest and enjoy the view.

Amazing!! Love this short walk. A wee big boggy in places. Itโ€™s accessible via a rope bridge but you can still get reasonably close without crossing. Huge waterfall, would highly recommend going.

It's worth every single step up and down the way there! Do not give up and keep going you'll love the view and the plain open space to do a picnic, play with the doggies, take lots of pictures from different angles and a well-deserved rest.

One of the most beautiful hikes I have ever done. It takes about half an hour to reach the waterfall from the carpark, the trail is beautifully crafted with some very nice views of the river and smaller waterfalls. Just before the main waterfall there is a bit clearing when you suddenly walk out in the open. The waterfall is absolutely stunning as well. Can't recommend a visit high enough, the only issue is that the hike is a bit short if you were looking for something a bit more intensive.

Stunning walk, but quite technical. The falls are beautiful but the walk, though challenging over rocks and streams, is the best part. Highly recommend

Amazing waterfall! An absolute beauty! Approximately 30-40 minutes of easy walk from the Steall Waterfall Car park. It has a river next to the waterfall for swimming and is ideal for camping! If you enjoy nature and adventure this place will not disappoint you at all. Most go place!

Really nice spot to visit. Free car park. Then 30/40 minutes walk in between the mountains path. Some parts of the path could be hard but not bad with beautiful views. Fun to cross the river climb on the wire bridge or through the clean and clear water to reach the waterfall.

After a nice 30 minute walk, the sight of the waterfall is very nice, though a bit smaller than I had imagined. Unlike many waterfalls there were no large pools to swim in which was a disappointment for the kids. We went around 4pm and think it was the start of the midges dinner time so we did not spend too much time there as it was rather uncomfortable.

Beautiful Waterfall. Its about 3km from the Carpark to the Waterfall. You can either cross the famous wire bridge or get your feet wet on the stream. Bring some spare shoes or better still bring your flip flop slippers to change into.

One of the most beautiful places to go and visit. Well worth the walk. It's not entirely a difficult walk but there are some spicy parts. If you're not stable on your feet you will struggle.

I went on 31 stunning hikes over my 17 days in Scotland, and this one was my favorite. The drive in comes with amazing views of the Nevis Range, and then the hike itself follows the river through a gorge and offers some more incredible vistas. The waterfall is the cherry on top. There are some slick, rocky bits to the trail, but itโ€™s relatively flat and not terribly strenuous. My cousins did it two days after I did with two small children, so it is doable if you want to bring the kids along; theyโ€™ll definitely need a bit of help in some places, though. The rope bridge is NOT for the faint of heart (or the poor of balance), but the up close view of the falls is worth it.

Steall waterfall is the perfect moderate hike for the intermediate hiker. My only reason for not making it a 5/5 is because I wouldnโ€™t recommend it for kids or dogs. Not to say they canโ€™t, I just wouldnโ€™t recommend it. The hike itself is beautiful and full of a genuine Scottish woody experience. The hike to the glen is only 1/2 of the experience, once you pass the rocks and woodsy area it opens up to a beautiful glen with streams and a great view of Ben Nevis. You then can choose to stay where you are and turn around or climb onto a three rope mechanism and cross to get closer to the waterfall. Iโ€™m 5โ€™5โ€ and had a bit of a problem reaching all 3 ropes. I saw a father carry his daughter on his back as he went over, but again if youโ€™re shorter youโ€™re better off not going across this way. I also saw people trekking across the river to get across. It was freezing and I donโ€™t recommend it, but do whatever you want lol. We went after 3 days of no rain and it was STILL muddy after this bridge. I almost lost a shoe because I took a step and sunk into the mud. The view though was worth going over this bridge. Also fair warning the ropes have a bit of rust on them and caused our hands to turn red. Not bad, but if you have gloves bring them!

The view is beyond amazing and it was such a surreal experience. The journey was quite interesting as we walked and hiked to the falls but the scenery was breathtaking. There were not many people how came to visit at that time which made the trip unbelievably perfect. I will not kid you when I say that the water was freezing cold but is was fresh and crystal clear. Be sure to pack a few set of clothes just in case you want to go swimming in the freezing Scottish waters.

Gorgeous view of the glen and falls. Easy to moderate hike. Not a difficult hike but at times it is over uneven ground. This will be a 3hr to all day (with picnic) event for most families. A strong recommend!

Amazing walk all the way! If you want to get close to the waterfall you have to either go over a steal "bridge" or walk through the ice cold water. We did both and got a huge adrenalin rush! It was worth it. Overall it is not as short a walk as described by people if you want to enjoy the waterfall from close. We spend 3h to 4h and could have stayed even longer. Lower car park is full very quickly.

It's bit of walk maybe around 30 min walk to the waterfall from car park but it's really worth it. Walk also fill with lot of water streams and breathe taking view. One of my favourite walk. Young kids will enjoy the walk but bit careful some places are slippery. If you visiting Highlands don't forget to spend 1 or 2 days in Fort William to admire the beauty around.

Highly recommend. Plenty of room in the car park on arrival. Beautiful walk through forest, trees covered in lichen, ferns ,little streams along the path to the falls absolutely enchanting views & atmosphere ,we saw plenty of common spotted Orchids . People all ages & abilities able to walk this route just take your time as a couple of sections along the route are wet & uneven stone.

Visited on a very cold November afternoon. Great hike up and through woodland on a pathway that at times can get a little tricky underfoot. There are a few points where rocks to cross are wet and can be slippery so good hiking footwear is a must. It's not arduous but if you are not used to hiking trails like this, it might be a little more difficult. It does pay off though. The views on the way to the Falls are amazing and there are plenty of opportunities for pictures. We tend to take our time and take photo ops every chance we get and there are great views to capture. Once you get to the glen it is a sight to behold. Such a beautiful area and the cascading waterfall is wonderful. The pathway continues round to a pebbled area where the river is shallow. Guessing this would be a popular spot on warmer days where people will paddle but we were the only ones resting there. There is a cable rope bridge that you can climb up and walk across, single wire to walk on and 2 upper cables to hold. Crossing the bridge takes you right up close to the waterfall. I guess there may be another way across if you paddle across the water but that's for summer days. Even though we went in November it was still quite busy. The car park was virtually enpty when we arrived early afternoon, but once we started our walk there were plenty of people coming along. And once we got to the glen more people were turning up. No doubt during summer months volumes of people is quite high so something to be mindful of especially if you take kids with you. Great time well worth the visit.

To those who has always been living in city, who doesn't really do much outdoor stuff and hasn't been exercising, I would say it is not an easy hike to see the fall, especially when there were many small streams with gushing waters to cross. It took us awhile to reach the fall, also we were greeted by rain (first week of oct) and so, the rocks were slippery. Really gotta be careful and not make yourself fall. Took us about 4 to 5 hours to complete (round trip). We went up using the hiking trail (started off at the bus parking place) and came down using the car route (straight from the carpark to the fall). Otherwise, truly, the hiking journey to the fall is quite pretty.

This is a really beautiful walk to take. Starting from the lower car park it is around a 45 minute walk through Steall gorge to get to the open meadow where you can walk to Steall Falls. Take the wire bridge (which isnโ€™t too tricky and very fun) over to the falls where you can sit right next to it. It is a really impressive site to visit. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Set aside the best 2 hours for trekking to and fro. Best family day out one can experience. Pls carry enough water and enjoy the walk. Itโ€™s meant for the old and the young.
