We had booked a nearby hotel and decided on a Groupon deal which was very good value. It was a Tuesday night so not particularly busy however when we entered, we seemed to be standing at the bar for a good 10 mins with no one in sight to serve. Our deal consisted of 2 x starters 2 x mains and either a beer or wine for £22. Starters were haggis balls which were beautiful and portion size very generous. 2nd starter was homemade fries, again very nice. Mains were chilli con carne with rice and nachos, the chilli was very dry and bland, I would rate under average. 2nd Main was mac n cheese, it looked good but was again quite bland. Rose wine was fab also. I would give this place another try just to give benefit of the doubt as most reviews seem to be positive. This is a large bar with plenty seats, tvs and a few pool tables.

It was hell Friday. We booked for bd party. But we struggled by alcohol. Bar system is rubbish, way slow. I stayed in the queue for buying pints more than enjoying with friends. But private room was good.

Great bar with delicious burgers. Very friendly staff and perfect service. Great deals on Groupon for Bar 50 but really good value for money all the time. Forget the Royal mile get down to Cowgate!

Booked the pool, pizza and beers Groupon deal. Had a fantastic Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, one chef called in sick, so the other came in early to cover. This meant a short wait for our food but to be honest, we didn’t mind. We were offered two extra free beers and played pool for around two and a half hours! Have to say, the two pizzas were definitely worth the wait. Most important, the staff (a young dark haired lady) really looked after us and kept us informed of everything. Exceptional service when things went a little wrong. We will be back.

Food is cheap and decent. It is a student bar so the drinks are cheap. Very good for large groups as its quite big. They have free WiFi so ask at the bar. Recommended for after uni drinks and cheap food. Staff are really nice

We spent a few hours here for our wedding anniversary and they were fantastic! Booking a table for a few hours was easy through the app, and the staff were lovely, food was excellent and we had a good range of drinks. We sat outdoors in 25°C temperatures (luckily just out of the sun, or I would have melted) enjoying the fresh air and a drink without masks. All in all, a brilliant bar. Definitely book a few hours there!

The atmosphere is ok, with good music. But they have two billiards tables in the middle and that's quite annoying. The food was terrible! I ordered a burger and the bun was hard as a rock, the patty was overcooked and hard as a shoe...it tasted like it was made the day before. I had to return it. The waitress was kind and refunded it.

Had a very bad experience. Staff totally unhelpful. Booked online and saw I could book a Wowcher voucher, so booked table for same evening, but when I went to buy voucher I couldn't redeem it without making a booking through Wowcher. It would not accept bookings for the same day. I contacted Bar 50, but after several occasions of explaining my situation, they made excuse after excuse not to honour my voucher and eventually stopped communicating with me. They tried to tell me that they didn't accept vouchers on a Saturday, yet their booking system allowed me to book under the Wowcher section and Wowcher clearly states that it is available until 6pm on a Saturday. They are very ignorant of their offer, very unhelpful and offer a very poor customer service. They are certainly not customer focused, as they would not go out of their way to help me, or accommodate me. I'm only visiting so I can't use the voucher any other day, so their loss. Either way they do not deserve my custom, as plenty of other places will treat me much better.

I've never made a review but I have to say the chips we received were terrible. The chips were brown and small like they had been refried over 5 times. The waiter saw we didn't finish half our food and didn't say anything. I hate to be that person who complains about food since I also work in a kitchen but I have to say I was really unimpressed. Any chippy serves better than that. Would never go again.

Have been several times to watch the Scotland games. Was disappointed tonight that they opted for a DJ at 7pm instead of the football commentary. The karaoke after the football was quite entertaining. A good atmosphere Will give it another go for the football and take it from there...

Karaoke on Thursday’s is best place to be in Edinburgh! I cannot stress this enough. The drinks and shot list are great, but I stayed for the karaoke! A must visit!

The starters was sooooo good! We love the tempura prawn.

Seemed fairly new to me and will kitted out. Spacious with the upstairs and downstairs area. Plenty of screens and a pool table too. I was here for a festival comedy act and the rooms for that were fine. Would come back to visit for just the pub facilities too. Decent selection of drinks and friendly service.

Came here with my partner, 2 dogs and my parents for some food and drink before a fringe show. Staff are so accommodating and immediately got water for the dogs and welcomed us. Food was great. Some amazing deals to be had at this place. Lovely atmosphere. Will be back 😊

Nice little out of the way pub with decent prices and indoor and outdoor seating with televisions showing sports at both. I think it must be attached to a hostel as well since there were quite a few young people (20’s) about

Great place, the drinks menu was super varied and all of the cocktails I tried were amazing. They also offer good bar food so you can stay for hours just chatting and having fun They have a section with really comfy couches and an outdoor terrace so you can go no matter the weather. The staff were friendly and quick with all the orders ( even after we ordered A TON of food and drinks) I highly recommend this place to hang out with a group

Shame, not what i was expecting. It is really more of a hostel, with hostel style menu etc. The food was very basic and not very tasty. There is plenty of seating both indoors and outside and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

If you want to have a chat with your friends, it's better to find another place -- too loud and crowded here. Beer a wee cheaper than in nearby places though, and everyone seems to have fun, so a good choice for a fun night out

QR code on the table, not taking orders through that, bar service only which was fine. Although, there was a ‘winter menu’ on the website, which advertised a menu valid till 8th jan 2023, all day every day, as per the flyer, to be told this isn’t valid and it’s only Sunday - Wednesday. I advised I wasn’t trying to be awkward but this is what the website is advertising. I was turned away, rude service, unpleasant attitude and no way of making things okay. Nice place, poor, untrained staff

Great place chill ,relax watch football and food is lovely ,salt an pepper chicken wings,haggis bites and mac n cheese bites lovely

Had a wowcher deal for here.... I never expect much with that but got lovely food and drinks ! A small menu but more than enough to chose from....We had 2 courses and each starter piping hot and delicious, and mains equally delicious.....staff were lovely ...great vibe in the bar...we're not students and could see it was a student bar, but didn't feel out of place at all...would definitely go back !

Enjoyed the pool tables, food was nice unfortunately worst bar service/staff I've experienced in years. Without exaggeration took easily 20/30mins to get served (moderately busy bar). Having worked in bars for years I understand the day to day struggles of the job but this was like nothing I've experienced before. Advice.....hire proper bar staff please.

This used to be my "go to" Edinburgh festival bar. Venues on site and they don't bump up the prices especially for the festival. Well, maybe until this year... The <£5 pints and cheap food of 2019 have now been replaced with £6 drinks, 10 min waits at the bar mid Wed afternoon (only one member of staff on despite 9 person queue) and 50 - aye 50 minute wait - for chips. The venues are still there for the free fringe and the beer garden is still there but the rest of the good memories I had of Bar 50 have gone. I've no idea what has happened to this bar over the last 3 years but it seems that the cost of service has significantly gone up while the level of service has taken a nose dive

Good friendly atmosphere. We went there during the festival Aug22 at 14:30. Was pretty much filled with young people. Pool tables and music are featured. We ordered beefburger and chips, chicken/bacon burger and chips plus beer and coke. Its bar service so no problem. Waited about 15-20mins and the burgers arrived in a box, bit like a shoe-box. Burgers and the chips were really good and so was the beer. If I were in that part of the city feeling hungry I'd definitely pop in for a burger.

This place was my first home when i came in Edinburgh. I didn’t expect it to be what the vibe is all day long. I planned to stay there for 6 days but i loved the environment so much that i extended it to 12 days. Honestly I used to wake up in the morning, explored the city center and after a tiring day, i was served best beers with best snacks. The best exposure that i have gotten for any city is for Edinburgh and the credit goes to Bar 50. It’s a full fledged students bar with affordable drinks and cocktails and snacks too. The taste is authentic and they will provide sauces as per your wish, any sauce or sides you want is there for you. The staff is so humble and well behaved, that they have been really helpful to me in so so so many ways. I would give 30% credit to their helping hands for an amazing time i had there. Highly appreciated. I would recommend this place to every student out there in Edinburgh to come party and have a great great time with your friends. Whether it’s your birthday, weekends, freshers, fair-well or bachelorette just come and party hard at bar50. Cheers
