The Bike Doctor is a cycle repair & bike hire business in Helmsley owned & operated by Julian. Julian is a mechanical engineer now running his own business with the great knowledge he has in all things cycling. The hire part of his business is starting up this summer. We were very fortunate to walk past his shop near the walled garden in Helmsley to discover we would be the first couple to hire his new electric bikes. We are a couple of 70 year olds who ride for pleasure in Australia. Although we had only ridden electric bikes twice before Julian soon had us on the road with great confidence. The bikes were great to complete the 48km circuit which Julian provided the directions for. There were a couple of steep climbs and of course descents. We had no trouble at all being able to ride these. Helmets, gloves and fluro wind jackets are all new and able to hire. We had a fantastic day with time to stop amongst the bluebells for a rest and our sandwiches which we bought at a cafe near Julian's workshop. We highly recommend Julian at the Bike Doctor Helmsley for a great day cycling the Moors.

Great experience in the lovely town of Helmsley. Me and my cousin came from Italy and easily found online The Bike Doctor and we hired 2 e-bikes for the day for the bargain of £90. Julian (the bike doctor) explained us in detail how to work the battery and the bike, and he even (which we weren’t expecting) printed for us an itinerary to follow; which brought us in the middle of the Yorkshire moors for a beautiful up and down bike ride which we will for sure remember. The bike ride is around 25 miles (4 hours) but with the e-bikes anyone can do it!! Great experience, highly recommended.

I can honestly say this was one of the most spectacular ways to spend an evening that I have ever had. This was a beautiful experience I will cherish forever. I am not a cyclist and am 61 years old, but the super smart e-bike made it easy to cover a 27 mile spectacular route. Julian's route takes you up and over the moors looking down into Bransdale - we could talk to each other all the way, even on the hills! The heather was in full bloom and we stopped off at a pretty little Norman church (where you can make yourself a cuppa for a donation) and then took in a pint (or two) at Gillamoor. I felt sorry for people in cars, they had no idea what they were missing out on. Julian could not have been more helpful, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. You feel as though you're in good hands, as was proved to be the case. Don't hesitate to do this ride, it will be one of the best things you have ever done.

This was our first experience of using e-bikes and we all enjoyed it thoroughly. The bikes were in great condition, Julian explained how to use them and he mapped out an enjoyable route for us to take across the moors. Even the wind and rain didn’t spoil our day as we lunched at a nice pub (as recommended by Julian too). He is very knowledgeable about all things bikes, and we would recommend The Bike Doctor to anyone visiting Helmsley.

Exceptional E-Bike Experience in Helmsley! I recently had the pleasure of renting an e-bike from The Bike Doctor, and what a great experience it was from start to finish! If you're looking to explore the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, this is the place to go for e-bike rentals. From the moment my husband and I walked into the shop, we were greeted with warmth and enthusiasm by Julian, the owner. His passion for e-bikes was evident and he was incredibly helpful, giving us a map of a beautiful route that took in the Yorkshire Moors, allowing us to explore hidden gems that we otherwise would have missed. It honestly couldn’t have been better. As a first-time e-biker I was a bit nervous, but Julian took the time to explain every aspect of the bike and it’s operation so that when I rode it I was able to do so confidently. Everything about my experience with The Bike Doctor was great and I wholeheartedly recommend it for renting an e-bike, you won’t be disappointed!

The tour with e-bike was amazing, I really loved the quiet and natural landscapes. This experience is pretty long, it’s needed around 3/4 hours to complete the tour. Thanks to the e-bike power you can join the natural ambients effortlessly.

We had a fantastic cycle on the e-bikes thanks to Julian. He suggested a very scenic circuit through the moors which was on quiet roads and easy to navigate. He also helpfully pointed out where the pubs were! Thank you Julian for being patient when we had to start the cycle later than planned and also for coming back late to collect the bikes so that we didn’t have to rush. You had very helpful local knowledge which made all the difference and we hope to be able to rent bikes from you again in future. Julian is a very accommodating and helpful lender of bikes. The E-bikes he lends out are in excellent condition. He also provided me with some sage advice, that in the end made my biking adventure through the North York Moors all the more pleasant.
