Beautiful place to visit. Pay to park in the car park at the bottom (£3) and then chose a path to follow. The one to the right takes you right up to the loch at the top or the one to the left takes you to a wonderful viewpoint of the waterfall. Car park gets full fast so best to get there early

This is a great natural beauty spot, with a long access road in good condition. The NTS (National Trust for Scotland) has provided a car park and requests a voluntary contribution of £3 for the upkeep of the long path up to Loch Skeen. This path runs alongside the river that flows out of the loch, producing the beautiful Grey Mare’s Tail Waterfall as it tumbles down the very steep ravine.

Never been before and had a nice afternoon seeing the falls and making the hike up to Loch Skeen. The hardest part being the first steep walk up the stone step path to view the falls, after that it kind of levels off until you get to the loch. Took us around an hour to get to the loch. It was busier than I was expecting but that's understandable given the area and ease of the walk. Proper footwear is a must along with appropriate clothing for the weather. If you are taking the dog make sure to take poop bags and remember to not leave used ones.

Stunning nature walk with great views. The beginning is pretty steep but soon levels off for a great we ample until you get to the loch. On a better day would have went for a swim...maybe next time

If you're heading to the Scottish Borders, do not miss Grey Mare's Tail 200-foot waterfall. There is a choice of walks including a short easy 160 yard stroll to a waterfall viewpoint, within in 5 minutes from the car park or a more strenuous linear route of around up a steep pitched path on the gorge edge that levels out to Loch Skeen. The Grey Mare's Tail is one of Scotland's finest waterfalls, a magnificent 200-foot cascade in the Moffat hills. This 2.75-mile walk climbs past the falls and continues up to beautiful Loch Skeen, ringed by craggy hillsides. The main path begins on the west side of the burn - keep right on the main path at a fork, soon crossing a footbridge to an interpretation area in an old sheepfold. The path climbs steeply to get above the landslips at the bottom end of the gorge of the Tail Burn. There are three spots for swimming, one just under the falls.

Stunning place. Park your care down there and just follow the trail path . You see waterfall from very short distance of walking but for the breathtaking view of lake you need to work hard little bit to get there. But it’s worth of walking there. Must must visit place .

Great walk up to the waterfall and then up to the Loch at the top. Highly recommend, especially on a beautiful day like I had there. Dog friendly and friendly people too.

👍👍 A large stone erected in 1929 to commemorate Robert the Bruce’s victory at the Battle of Glentrool.
