Stopped off after a walk for something to eat on a Sunday and was very pleased with our choice. Staff were extremely attentive and accommodating to a walk in at a busy time. Food was excellent as was the beer. In this setting, what more could one ask?

Great location and a nice, cosy old pub, the perfect kind of place you want after a long walk. But I was so disappointed in the pricing/portion sizes. I ordered the £19.50 steak and ale pie, expecting to come away full and satisfied. I was served a small pie, half a portion of chips and a small ramekin of cheesy veg. And I’m still hungry. My friend’s roast was served on the same size plate, heaving with food, and he was given two side plates of veg. £18.95. Make it make sense.

Called in for lunch with a friend who hadn't enjoyed this wonderful pub before. The welcome, drinks and food were fabulous as always, the sunshine ensured the views from the pub were spectacular. The interior is so cosy, with log burners and comfortable seating Landlady and staff ensure you have a great experience, whether dining or just enjoying a drink. This really is a gem of a pub, with food that sets it apart from the competition. Bed and breakfast is also available and my friend intends returning with his wife to enjoy an overnight stay.

Visited here with friends after a great walk in the Peak District - you can imagine we were quite keen for a sit down, a drink, and some grub. Not long afterwards, we were keen to leave. As we were shown to our table, the lady got very short with my friend as he moved a chair out of the way. She then seemed angry that I didn't want food (my friends did, I just wanted a pint and a slice of cake). As she seemed genuinely annoyed at me I did not press the matter about the cake and thought I'd wait until after my friends had eaten their mains. She clearly forgot about my pint as my friend asked another (lovely) member of staff to get me one when their food arrived (I'm far too socially awkward to do this myself). The lady returned intermittently to be noisy and interfere with people's dogs. She gave some food to my friend's dog without asking. The food itself looked pretty substandard. My friends informed me it was not nice. I did not bother ordering a slice of cake at this point as we just wanted to leave. All in all it was a genuinely unpleasant experience that took away from an otherwise lovely day.

Stopped in on the off chance New Year's Day, pub is cosy anyway but with the fire roaring and the pub in full Christmas decs, it had an amazing atmosphere. Staff managed to get us a last minute table - the food was incredible. Big choice of menu options, many of them local meats. Can easily say that was the best pub Sunday Roast i have ever had. About 4 slices of fantastic local lamb (hardly an ounce of fat on it), massive yorkshire, loads of spuds and parsnips, carrots, beans, broccoli, and cauli/broc cheese bake on the side all for £19 - such brilliant value they could easily add £5 per head for the quality and the quantity. We also had crayfish, prawns and smoked salmon with dill mayo which was perfect. 2 of those starters and 2 lamb roasts for under £60 was an absolute bargain. and all the staff were outstanding. A hidden gem! 5 stars easily

Visited here on Saturday evening for a meal out with family and Dalmatian. What a wonderful find!! A wonderfully inviting and atmospheric country pub with fires burning and plenty of interesting artefacts. Very dog friendly too (apologies to Timmy, the pub cat). The food was excellent - high quality ingredients and very nicely presented. I can personally recommend the 'Rabbit & Ham Hock Pie'(plenty of meat in the filling, and lovely crisp pastry on top), and the 'Pear & Strawberry Tart'. Ingredients are sourced locally, for example, the lamb coming from the farm across the road, and the pears and strawberries from their own gardens. The landlady was lovely and very personable, coming to chat to us in general and about the food on the menu (I've no idea how she remembers that long list of deserts!), and to make a fuss of our Dalmatian. The serving staff were very efficient, and so polite. We found mobile signal to be poor, but there is free wifi available. The toilets were spacious and clean. Parking, on the northern side of the pub seemed rather limited - but it was dark, and maybe there was more further along? It's such a shame that we live about 125 miles away or else we'd be regulars..... If you're in the area, I'd recommend you pay the Rose & Crown a visit - you won't regret it.

We visited the Rose & Crown for dinner. The Warm ambience and the charming rustic decor of the dining area and bar are welcoming and cozy. Beautiful views of the Peak Hills from the comfort of the dining area. A variety of dishes to choose from for all tastes. We ordered a Rabbit and ham hock pie with chips aswell as a Lamb Henry with Spring onion mash and red wine jus. Followed by Apple crumble and a Strawberry cheesecake decorated accompanied with a few Summer berries. Both dishes were beautifully flavoursome. The Pie crust was beautifully baked. The Lamb pulled apart effortlessly. The Crumble fruity and the cheesecake was light and fluffy, not dense. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. The Service was friendly and the young gentlemen did a great job. There is ample customer parking and for sunny days, they have a garden. We would happily dine here again and this pub/ restaurant is a gem.
