Remote and mainly devoid of people. Rugged scenery and wildlife. A real haven for antisocial ornathologists or geologists. Not many drum n bass bars or hipster barista joints.

Fabulous place to stay. Amazing grounds and scenery. Great food and a very warm welcome. So much to see and do and a lovely log fire to come home to.

Brilliant place for a stroll with kids and furry friends. Views over hills are some of the best in Scotland you can view without climbing them

Clarification: Assynt Foundation is the community organisation which took over the ownership of Assynt Estate and has an office here at Glencanisp Lodge. The hiking area mentioned in the category is the estate, containing Canisp, Suilven and much more and it is the immediate surrounds of Glencanisp Lodge. The first is large scale and covered by references to particular parts. The area near the pin on the map has a pleasant short nature trail with a good leaflet with good surfaces and some steep gradients. Parking by donation. No facilities.

One of our favourite places in the UK. Dynamic, challenging and awe inspiring. All of nature at its best be it floral or fauna- not to mention the mountains, rivers and water falls.

This whole area is like nowhere else, it's rugged beauty is shocking in its difference to anywhere I have visited. Looking forward to visiting again
