Was visiting York for the weekend with my significant other and wanted to show her something different to what she's used too. Staff were very welcoming on Friday the 21st of January and the atmosphere of the restaurant felt like I was just dining out in someone's dining room which I loved. Much more relaxing than the usual restaurant dining experience. You almost feel at home here. Highly recommend visiting for an evening meal or date night and be sure to book a reservation! I highly recommend you also try the honey butter chicken. We had to fight over the final piece! If I'm ever heading back to York, I will be heading back for more, no questions asked.

Mixed feelings here.... Not the dining experience i was expecting. The restaurant is dated and in places a little grubby. Absolutely nothing wrong with the food but it was no better than a local takeaway. Service and staff were very good. The final bill didn't reflect the the overall dining experience. No rush to go back but wouldn't avoid it.

I went to this restaurant to celebrate the end of my PhD. Unfortunately the food was very overpriced; the portions were too small for what we paid. Though the experience might seem novel, I wasn't sure how long to cook things for and in the end understood that it would be better to eat a dish that was cooked and of a good portion. It was also quite smoky in the restaurant itself because everyone was cooking. I have spent some time in Korean restaurants in Korea and Japan and this wasn’t the authentic experience and taste that I encountered there.

I'm sure that they get many satisfied customers but I can only report my personal experience. The staff are friendly and helpful but, for me, the rest of the experience would not encourage me to return. I was in a party of eight and found myself jammed in a corner with little room to move or eat. We ordered to share between four but when the food came it looked pretty unappetising such that I really didn't want to eat, so didn't. There is the atmosphere of an overlit transport cafe and I was really quite pleased to be released from my corner, have a needed wee, and leave.

Delicious food, the right amount of spice for us. The food tasted very authentic, the stew looked a little oily from what I’m used too. But overall the food was fabulous and would recommend this little gem in York.

Very disappointed with this restaurant. I agree with other reviews about the environment comparing it to a warehouse (also the table and chairs are quite sticky; when I asked for a take away box is with water, in this case I was not sure if it was washed and reused), but generally happy to accept this with the expectation that the food must be exceptional. Sadly, the food was subpar and overpriced. We ordered 1 rice thing + 1 soda drink for each, but in total our meal for two came to over 50 pounds. We even had to pay an additional 3 pound to include an egg with our bibimbap - something we've never had to do at other korean restaurants (even in London!) I am afraid if it is not about the profit but egg tolerance, I would be only asked if I wanted an egg or not than charging 3 pounds if I wanted one. I would not recommend visiting.

Tucked away but we'll worth a visit. The seafood pancakes were particularly good

Incredible, authentic, high-quality Korean BBQ. We adore this place and have dined here a couple of times now, and each time I leave, I am satisfied but depressed knowing it will be a while before I go back again! 🤣 If you've ever been curious about Korean cuisine just take the plunge and book yourself a table (crucial to pre-book as whilst they do accept walk ins, it is an intimate restaurant, only capable of holding around 30 people across 5/6 tables so it fills up quick) the food is superb and my words can't do justice to the flavours and textures you'll get to experience. A few notable entries are tteokbokki, the Bulgogi beef, and the crispy chicken (any flavour choice is a good one) If for some reason you are still reading this, just go and book a table already, you won't regret it.

Oshibi serves really lovely food that seems very authentic (although I can't say I have been to Korea!). The team that run it are always lovely and chatty and the ability to barbecue on the table adds some fun to your visit. Personally the chef prepared chicken dish (pictured) is my favourite! The restaurant could be easily missed being down a side street off Fossgate, so just head towards the guitar shop when you see the Tapas restaurant and it's on your left!

The food was amazing (especially Japchae with Tofu and the Hotteok). They also had lots of vegan options available. The staff were lovely and welcoming. 100% would recommend and definitely will be coming back.

Visited Saturday (11/11) night as a couple and the whole experience was a huge disappointment. We ordered the Bulgogi, the Yang Nyum Chicken, two portions of boiled rice. Service: Waitress was polite but not very attentive. The place was almost empty and she took almost 10 minutes to come and take our order. Also, two young men that work in the kitchen could be seen laughing and giggling at times as if they were on a school break, which is not very professional for customers to see given that part of the kitchen can be seen from the dining area. The two dishes were not delivered together (not even the rice). First came the bulgogi and then we had to wait around 4 minutes for the rice and another 5 for the chicken. Food: The Bulgogi was okay, but that's the minimum one can expect. Chicken: Not fried on the spot (as one might expect) which reduces the quality and consistency significantly. From where I was sitting I could see chicken being taken out of the oven (it had been pre-fried and then warmed up - at least it was not put on the microwave). The portions of rice are tiny (and cost £3.95 each!). But if they were at least good, I would not complain... However, the rice had the taste, appearance and consistency of microwaved rice, not something that came straight from a pot or rice cooker. Atmosphere: The place is tiny and the kitchen can be seen from the dining area. However, this does not imply the atmosphere cannot be made cozy and pleasant. Depending on where you sit it looks like you are in a warehouse or a teenager's messy bedroom, as random carton boxes and other stuff can be seen lying around. In total, with the food aforementioned + two cans of coke I paid £47,00. Certainly a ripoff, definitely not coming back or recommending it.

Food tasted nice, however the portion sizes were too small for the price. We had kimchi fried rice and it was nearly £14, the portion wasn’t even enough to fill a person up. The staff were lovely and talkative but overall the prices and portions are a major downside.

Popped in here just by chance, was trying to see a menu outside but a customer outside vaping heard us deciding on whether to go in and mentioned how good the food was. Sold! Really pleased with everything we ordered, ended up ordering more after we’d had our main because we just wanted to try so much more! Really unexpected having to cook the meat yourself but also means we could cook beef how we like it. Was nice to experience something new. As for comments about the restaurant in other posts, it’s a top floor restaurant in an old York building. We thought it was fine, snug and intimate. Staff were so attentive and the food was great! Our first experience eating Korean food and we weren’t disappointed! Maybe have a menu outside so people can see the range of food you offer :)

I opted for the Bibimbap, my usual go to dish. I've had this at many Korean restaurants across the country and have all been pretty similar give or take. This one was vastly different, the hot dish it's served in was hot but soon cooled down and came with (sautéed?) onions and big chunks of broccoli, no pickled ginger, carrots or courgettes. The sauce was not served in a separate dish as standard meaning you couldn't decide on the volume you used and the egg was fried (I was aware of this when ordering) but would have preferred it raw. Overall the dish was tasty don't get me wrong, but very different to every Bibimbap I've had before and at a far higher price tag too

Didn’t go for the bbq as it seemed a little much to try and get 6 people around the little griddle. The friend chicken was great and a massive portion. Fried rice wasn’t my style but everything else was great.

We had Korean BBQ washed down with some Soju and Patbingsu traditional shave ice dessert . Everything was scrumptious and well presented. I definitely recommend

Absolutely fantastic! My mum booked here for my birthday lunch as a suprise, and I wasn't disappointed. The laid-back service and atmosphere was lovely. But the food was amazing, definitely worth a visit. I know we will definitely be going back again!

BBQ meat very tasty. It comes in a set with lettuce leaves, banchan and sauces, and you can order extras like steamed rice for extra cost. The two of us ordered one BBQ set for two and a dish of Teokbokki. Service was friendly. Food is not the cheapest, and portions not huge, but it was reasonably priced for its taste. I enjoyed being able to experience an authentic Korean BBQ during a trip to York. It made a lovely date night. Restaurant is a little out of the way, but easy enough to find. The restaurant is up on the third floor.

I understand other reviews with concerns about price. The 3 star rating for food is because of the portion sizes. There were 3 of us and the bill was £129. I had the grilled chicken with only 4 small pieces at 9.95, and a small bowl of rice we ordered additionally with kimchi was not enough, it also had a bitter taste. My chicken did not taste like teriyaki also and the sides and dips offered with the price of the bbq are miniscule. The teokbokki and veg dumplings were incredibly tasty and moreish but again small portions so we ended up ordering two. The sliced pork for bbq was also just bacon. Service was excellent really friendly staff. Overall the price tag did not reflect the surroundings, it is a cafe and £129 for the portion sizes is not reflected in the food or the environment. I note the owner advised there are costs such as music etc in another review but this was not turned on until part way through the meal. There should also be better ventilation and more space for a table bbq. Some of the food was really tasty but I do think the menu and prices need to be reviewed.

Found this restaurant by chance before my trip to York. The food was amazing, the chapjae was my personal favourite! The service was friendly and the atmosphere had a nice homely feel, it was like visiting an old friend. Can't wait to eat here again when I visit York next time. :) xxx

First time trying Korean food, very tasty, had a go at cooking it at the table, enjoyed it but not sure if I would do that again, the other dishes we had were lovely so would have prepared dishes next time.

Second visit and was just as good as the first time. Lots of choice and a really good gluten free offering too. Drinks were good and food was quick and well cooked. We ordered a selection of meals and everything tasted great. The honey butter chicken was absolutely amazing
