I'm a big fan of Chinese food, we are staying locally and my husband booked this place as a Birthday treat. I have to say, the food was excellent, one of the best Chinese meals we've ever. The staff were very friendly. We will definitely be returning in the future, infact I'm looking forward to it already

We have been looking for a good Chinese take away for as long as we can remember. The Mulan was recommended by our good friend Miles, so we ordered a take away last night (14/04/23). My wife and I both agreed that it was the best Chinese food we have ever tasted! The king prawn in ginger and onions was to die for, as was the chicken chow mien and sweet and sour chicken. It is collection only, which we didn't mind as it is near to where we live and the staff serving were lovely, polite and attentive. This is now going to be our go to Chinese takeaway and we will definitely be ordering again very soon! The food was hot and was full of vegetables (went to another one recently that was just different colours of beige), whereas the food at The Mulan was colourful and very fresh. Big thank you to all at The Mulan - it was really lovely.

First time visit, took Mum and her friend for lunch, mainly because of the parking and reviews. £7.20 for two courses, not small portions either and enough choice, though not vast. The staff were polite, pleasant and very professional and the young waiter was excellent. 22 miles for us to travel but we'll be back. Highly recommended.

I was initially perplexed by the name of the restaurant as it was perhaps named after one of my all time favourite movies but I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of food and the friendliness of the host and the quick services that followed. I would recommend the restaurant’s signature spare ribs and crispy shredded beefy, to name a few. All in all we had a lovely time. Highly recommend this place.

Amazing place. Absolutely can't fault it. The staff are so friendly and professional and have fantastic customer service. Portion sizes are incredible and taste out of this world. Really good value for money. Honestly one of my favourite places ever!!

Visited Friday lunchtime after hearing nothing but excellent reviews from family and friends about the Mulan...... It did not dissapoint the value for money at £7.90 for two courses is to be applauded the portion sizes perfect the quality of food first class even the drinks at reasonable prices what is not to like certainly got to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in York we will certainly be back thankyou to EVERYONE at the Mulan

Just found out the mulan is under new management and wow is it noticeable! The food quality has gone way down, this was always our favourite place to visit and we often order take away but i have a feeling this is about to change unless the quality of food improves, the wontons are a joke tiny soggy and nothing like the previous mulan standard, the prawn toast is again soggy thin and not as nice, beef in black bean tated vile wheras it used to be soft great quality and delicious, what a shame such a nice place is clearly going downhill fast!

Had a takeaway with friends last night and never used The Mulan before . It was the best takeaway I have had from a Chinese in a very long time. We had pretty much every starter and they were all amazing. The beef in the mains was perfect (I know it's not always great from Chinese takeaways but this was). Large order was all correct and all hot . Couldn't fault it at all. My new go to Chinese

Highly recommend Mulan Chinese for a takeaway - best one in York. They answer the phone promptly, the take away was ready on time and food was of above average quality. The food was good value too, an order for 6 adults and 4 children’s was £100. Watch out for the massive portion sizes though - genuinely! The chicken fried rice (see picture) for example was literally twice the size of what you get from any other Chinese!! One chicken fried rice fed four children (8-14 yrs).

Worst customer service I’ve ever had. Rude. Incapable. Got the order wrong. Made us drive out twice. No apology. Still insisted on charging extra. Absolutely disgusting service. When we finally had the correct order the food was below average and poor quality. Would not recommend. Will not return.

The food was the best I've had at a sit in Chinese. It arrived piping hot, well presented and promptly. Even better the price was exceptional for the quality of food. Will definitely be back.

We tried here due to the reviews, but I'm assuming restaurant, and takeaway experiences, are two very different things. The portions were small, and the 20 percent takeaway discount was definately claimed back in the reduced portion size, sparse and missing ingredients. The food was nice, but in all honesty not too dissimilar to what we have had before, from ordinary take aways, that weren't restaurants. The chips were very dry and my family struggled to eat those, including my children who usually love them from other places! The egg fried rice was fresh and amazing but lacked any peas as seen in the photos. The crispy beef was nice but basically batter with very little meat. The sweet and sour sauce was fantastic but the chicken was abit soggy and with little pineapple/veg. The vegetables in oyster sauce were amazing but abit sparse eg. there was one tiny slice of baby corn in the whole dish, barely any carrot, broccoli etc. In conclusion it certainly wasn't a terrible experience and really had potential with some really nice aspects,but overall disappointing .

We went to Mulan last Sunday when we travelled to York for a short weekend break. The restaurant’s bright and modern decoration really impressed me. As a Chinese from London, I am a picky Chinese food eater, but I have to admit that I had the best ever shredded beef from Mulan. It is thin, super crispy and tasty. Hot plate beef, aromatic duck and tofu dish are all very delicious. The lady (I think she is the manager) was friendly and professional. We would definitely come back when we visit York again.

Absolutely sensational! The staff made the experience so enjoyable with jokes and a personal touch. The food was by far the best Cantonese food we’ve ever had, and I cannot stress that enough! We will be coming back and we will be telling our friends. Thanks Maggie, you’re amazing!

Had my birthday dinner here with my dad and the food was absolutely gorgeous!!!!! We both had sizzling steak dishes. The staff are very friendly and helpful and were very knowledgeable on gluten free dishes for me. We will be back and I thoroughly recommend!!!!

Decent place to have food. Not too big nor to small menu to choose from. Clean presentation of food, came without too much delay. Taste was alright for me but most of the other members of my team enjoyed the food.

Great lovely staff at the Mulan but the food has really gone down hill lately. I ordered a beef chow mein and the amount of garlic it had was obscene. Spent the whole time picking it out.

Had the best Chinese takeaway in York tonight. Was recommended by a friend. Service was so friendly, the lady who took our order was so kind, the gentleman behind the counter even came out into the rain to deliver it to the car park. The lemon chicken, egg fried rice and chicken in black bean and prawn crackers were all outstanding! Cannot recommend this restaurant enough, we will drive out of York and avoid just eat and deliveroo to support the Mulan, your food and service is incredible, we will be regular customers. We have tried so many restaurants on just eat and deliveroo but none are up to your standards. Top quality food, we will see you soon, we wish you all the success

We visited for the first time today (Sunday 17th Sept) whilst in the area on holiday. We've been coming to York for years and only just found this hidden gem. The service was fabulous. Very attentive and on hand should you need anything. The food was so fresh and delicious. I had the spring rolls, followed by prawn fried rice and some curry sauce. My dad had salt and pepper squid and that too was delicious followed by sweet and sour chicken and Rice mum had the different menu to us. Soup, and 3 varieties of starters followed by a chicken and mushroom dish with rice. It was such big portions we had to take it home with us as we couldn't manage it all. We will be back again next year when in the area. Thank you for a lovely experience, delicious food and fabulous service.

I've been to this Chinese restaurant a couple of times, the last time prior to this review was in 1994! So it's been here a fair few years now. It wouldn't be here for that long if it wasn't any good. It was a Friday night my most recent visit, it was busy. Price I thought was a bit expensive for a Chinese restaurant but the portions were very large, the dish I ate there was Chinese chicken curry, which was good. Service was efficient and quick. If this Chinese restaurant was local to where I live i would visit more often, but I live 250 miles away so visits will be few and far between in the future.
