An absolutely amazing experience. Incredible staff. Area is kept incredibly well. Walking throughout the structure feels surreal. Regardless of your religious background, you will find this visit to be incredibly rewarding. One can easily spend an entire day here. But even 90 minutes will provide a wealth of views. Ornate architecture and some of the best stained glass in the world. The size of the interior is overwhelming.

Beautiful imposing building on a mammoth scale. Well worth a stroll around and through the grounds. Undergoing renovation works so some areas are scaffolded but you can watch the stone masons at work preparing and carving stone for replacement. We didn't enter the building on this visit but it's top of the list for next visit!

What a great piece of history. Grandiose structure, carefully detailed interior. One of York's main tourist attraction.

A league of its own. Very nice inside. The tower is worth the extra £6 but make sure you do a warm up before you set off. Lovely place for views and general interest of historic buildings

What a breathtaking building....inside and out! I love York and its abundance of History and shops. All the years we've been going to York and never actually went to have a look at York Minster....until today. We're so glad we did and wondered why we'd left it so long, the exhibits and sights are really amazing, the Roman exhibit and the Crypt were exceptional. So much more than what we thought. Well worth the money.

Absolutely fabulous place to visit. Loved the stained glass throughout, the ability to go down to the crypt and the availability of the bathroom on site. Our favourite part was the Chapter House, it was breathtaking

It's a beautiful church. If you com from the east, on the way you see the Roman column, the statue of the Constantine the great. The entrance is from the west end of the church. We went on a Sunday. It wasn't very crowded. Although, the wait time wasn't long, but you need to go close to the time slot on your ticket. You can buy tickets there, then you need to wait more.

One of the great cathedrals of the world. To say it's packed with history is an understatement. Being outside the South East of the UK, it doesn't get the publicity its architecture and ecclesiastical importance deserves. Amongst its remarkable features is the magnificent extent of its stain glass. This just has to be seen.

Well, if you are visiting York, the Minster is an absolute must!! I will say the tickets were a little pricey. However, under 10s, do go free, and your ticket is valid for a year! It's absolutely breathtaking!!!! I can not describe the wonder about the beauty of this incredible place. There is so much to look at and study, including artefacts and memorials, and more . The architecture is truly stunning, especially if you considered when the building was erected; and truly spectacular feat of engineering! The Undercroft museum is also included, but the tower challenge is extra. We were also blessed to return for evensong, which was beautiful and very moving!

What a treat! Incredibly well preserved, astounding in it's gothic beauty and a landmark for Yorkshire and the UK. York Minster is a must see. I could not recommend a better place to spend an afternoon. Make sure to visit both the Crypt and the underground museum for another perspective on this iconic building. Take the time to drink it all in, there is no corner that is lacking in detail or wonder.

Of course if you are visiting York then you must visit the York Minster. It is truly magnificent from the outside and in! As you are paying, id 100% recommend joining the talking tour where you get a 1hr 45min detailed and informative tour of the cathedral and get to learn so much about the history of the cathedral and details you'd miss if not joining!

Such a beautiful place! Worth the money! My friends and I went right after it opened and there was no wait time. We bought tickets there and got a student discount. It has such a beautiful history and so many rooms to go into. Worth stopping in for sure.

view from different angles ✨beautiful architecture. Admission to York Minster is free for York residents, University of York students, and York St John students. You will be required to show proof of address (such as a York Card or utility bill) or university ID on entry to the cathedral.

It really is quite the centrepiece of York and we all were keen to pop inside and see if the interior lived up to the exterior but the £80 price tag for our group of 5 was just too much for us so we will never know - it might be worth every penny but it was beyond our budget at this time. If you are already aware that it is £16 a head, you should avoid the disappointment (and slight embarrassment) of finding out at the ticket office.

If you're visiting York, it's an absolute must. There's lots to see and take in. Allow at least a couple of hours to get around it, particularly if they have an exhibit on. The guide book is very useful (I'd even suggest a pre-read so you can hunt some of the treasures out), particularly for the main part of the building which is obviously still a working building so understandably doesn't necessarily have the signage and information you'd usually expect in a historic attraction.

The Minster is stunning. We also did the 'Crypts of the Early Minster' tour (additional £6 per person when we visited) which was fascinating, and limited to a very small number, ours was 6 people. This meant we had a great opportunity to learn from the experienced guide and see some sections of the (even older!) churches that lie beneath the current building.

What else can be said about this incredible building, it really has to be seen to be believed. This really is one of the best and beautiful cathedrals in the country. You can easily lose hours taking in the amazing windows and decorations, inside and out. The lines to get in are well organized with plenty of friendly staff on hand to help. I bought a pre booked ticket and walked straight in with no waiting. All the staff inside are very helpful and friendly and I recommend asking them any burning questions you have as they are all very knowledgeable. I did bump into one of the tours and listened in and must say it was packed with loads of information. If you are visiting York this is an absolute must visit .

No visit to York is complete without seeing the Minster. It's a beautiful cathedral, but what I was most excited to see (and hear) was its recently restored Grand Organ. I attended an organ recital here and it was incredible. This mighty instrument has over five thousand pipes and dates back to the 1830s. I was chuffed I finally got to experience it at its best!

Seems to have lost its lustre for me, having to pay £16 to enter. More to visit the undercroft & yet more to climb the stairs. Lack of information or displays until the exhibition on restoring stained glass windows towards the rear. Felt a bit deflated rather than inspired or peaceful from such an important place. Sad really.

Absolutely awesome building. The history of the building is incredible. Well worth the visit. Give yourself plenty of time to see everything as it's a big building. I didn't climb up the tower as 275 steps up a spiral staircase gives my vertigo the wobbles! But it was a fantastic experience even without the climb.

A beautiful cathedral with a really excellent museum in the undercroft. I loved learning about the history of the area and the archaeological evidence that they've found. The stonework and stained glass are stunning. I wish we had more time to do the audio tour.

A stunning architectural beauty that can be seen peeking through the skyline from many parts of the city and the walls of York. As I was visiting for Christmas, it was very appropriate to attend York Minster for Midnight Mass. The service was beautiful, such a brilliant sermon too, and the surroundings just majestic and awe-inspiring. The facilities here were clean and well kept. I was able to pop back during the day to have my Pilgrim Passport stamped, too.

Beautiful! Gothic Cathedral. Visit it! If you can, climb 275 steps to the Central Tower. Closer to the sky. Wonderful landscape. Charming images

A very nice and beautiful Place of worship. Very pretty glass windows and lots of things for the eyes to gaze upon. Didn't manage to make it up to the top of the tower but as the tickets last 12 months I will visit again sometime and explore again. There is a very fine Astronomical Clock which I found particularly fascinating

Absolutely exquisite 😍😍 The workmanship! The craft! The detail. The light. The atmosphere. A must visit if anywhere near York! Don't forget to walk up along the boundary wall for a different view. Of the city and the Church. And an absolute MUST, at least for the experience, (bonus/reward is the view) is climbing up the winding stairway of the towers. Not for the faint-hearted or claustrophobic sufferers tho. Stairway and stairs extremely narrow and steep. All 275 steps!! But it's so worth the effort!

A beautiful town with a lot of culture and history. Good transport links where the train station is right next to the heart of town area. Amazing architectural buildings to see and admire. Plenty of places to eat and a lot of independent shops which is a rarity these days.

Just breath taking to look at, really amazing views of the minster. If you are visiting York and you like taking pictures of places or buildings then this is a must visit. You can pay to go inside and see more of the stuff going on inside but even just walking round the building which is a nice walk with breathtaking scenery of the minster.

One of the most stunning buildings I’ve ever visited. You can pay extra for tickets to go up to the rooftop. Beautiful views of York & the cathedral when looking down.

A must visit in York. When I visited students from York where allowed free entrance so a huge benefit. Absolutely stunning. The York Minister is the centre piece of the town and can be seen from most places in the city. Although often under repair and a bit of construction work on the side you can still enjoy its impressive structure. Would suggest visiting during the week if possible as York is always full of tourists.

Really beautiful architecture and glass windows, we even get a souvenir in the shop next door. There are even guides available at the front desk when they scan your tickets. It's better to get tickets in prior and students can even get discounts!

Extraordinary. Feels as if I'm thrown into the past as I'm exploring the buildings. I heard that at a certain time you can go to the rooftop and see the church bell along with the view of the whole city. Too bad I cannot go there when I visited since the wind is blowing wildly and they don't allow anyone to go up there. But definitely worth to visit. Also, don't forget to take some pictures.

Incredible!! We love to go see cathedrals every where we travel. The York Minster is the most beautiful and amazing we have seen. We loved being able to see it during the Christmas season with all the tree. May sure you go down to view the old Roman walls the Minster is built over.

I’m an atheist, but I bloody love a cathedral. It’s amazing to think that the Minster was started in the medieval period. It is a beautiful building both inside and out. Calming and awe inspiring. Well worth a visit. If you’re into architecture and culture it’s the place for you. If you’re a spiritual person, it’s also perfect.

  • 5/5 Wayne C. 1 year ago on Google
Well worth the £12-50 entrance fee, and you can visit again free of charge within a year. Due to health reasons I couldn't do the tower walk, I think its 175 steps up, but the view is the highest point in York and costs an extra £6. Spent a good few hours in here

This is a must go when in York. You can easily spend a couple of hours here going through the different sections. If you are lucky, you will get to hear the choir sing too :)

Always a beautiful place to visit. We were lucky enough to see a wedding I’m here and the organ, choir and bells were just amazing. Especially the organ playing hymns that we had at our wedding. Spectacular!

Very beautiful place.Love the cathedral, quite similar to any other cathedral in England. When you purchase a ticket, you can visit with same ticket all year around for free.

  • 5/5 Che86 4 months ago on Google
Initially I did not want to go inside due to the cost of £16pp entry. Tickets last a 12 months so you can visit multiple times and offer you lots to do inside, museum, gallery, free tours inside, etc turned out to be well worth the cost as internally it's magnificent and would now highly recommend this if you're in York. Beautiful cathedral with lots to see and do once Inside.

Spectacular medieval Gothic Cathedral..largest in Northern Europe with half Britain’s medieval stained glass. Climb the tower! See the crypt of St William of York! This cathedral stands out among Europes best.

Visiting a 900 year old cathedral with so much history n preservation. Too good. Spent almost 2hrs learning the history n exploring the cathedral. Little pricy but worth the visit. Buy tickets in advance

Had a great time at the York Minster. The staff are friendly and helpful. They give you information about the church if you ask them. The crypt of St Williams is beautiful and serene. The whole church is just stunning. 😍 Do check out their astronomical clock, their eastern window. The stained glass art is gorgeous. 😍 Definitely recommend and will go again.

It was a beautiful sight even on a rainy day. Very informative tour exploring the history of the minster from when it was first built to the gothic masterpiece it is today. It's worth a visit whether you're religious or not, and irrespective of faith.

Didn’t have the time to go inside on this visit, but highly recommended you do if you get the chance, it’s stunning inside!! There is a beautiful garden attached that you can walk through - you wouldn’t know you were smack bang in the middle of a city in there! Great place to sit and chill for a little while. I love the gargoyles on the cathedral, they always fascinate me!

  • 5/5 Robert B. 1 year ago on Google
Such an amazing experience. Gorgeous array of artifacts from the Roman flooring, colourful stained glass windows, and amazing view from the top of the Minster. Also an informative tour guide added to our enjoyment.

Incredible, surreal place. They have kept it in great condition and is definitely worth visiting if you are a fan of historical landmarks and architecture. The undercroft has some fantastic display pieces and bits for children to learn and play with the mini activities. Really enjoyed my visit and took some great photos.

  • 5/5 Rita S. 9 months ago on Google
A very popular tourist attraction so best to buy tickets in advance if you can. However tickets are valid for 12m so if you don't complete the whole Cathedral in the time you have, then you can always return within that 12m period. Going right to the top is great (if you're fit enough) and the views are amazing 😊

  • 5/5 Dave O. 10 months ago on Google
An amazing and beautiful building with its medieval architecture and stained glass windows. The inside is as beautiful as the outside. On this particular visit, a trip to the top of the tower with its 275 steps round a spiral staircase. Views of York are amazing from here, and you’re allowed around 15/20 minutes at the top of the tower before heading down the spiral 🌀 stairs again

  • 5/5 Richard G. 9 months ago on Google
From the moment you step inside and for many hours after, this cathedral is truly spectacular. The acoustics, the stained glass windows, the intricate carvings in the masonry and the massively high roof line just take your breath away. If you're in York, even for a short break, York Minster is an absolute must see.

  • 5/5 B S. 1 year ago on Google
Stunning to see. We were lucky that our group was permitted to tour York Minster alone, while the choir was warming up for a BBC special. They sounded heavenly and it really set the scene for our group as our guide gave us a wonderful tour. York is very walkable, with plenty of stores and cafes. Take time to walk the city walls near the Minster, as there are some awesome views of the Minster. Clifford's Tower is also within walking distance and worth a visit.

  • 5/5 Caroline B. 1 year ago on Google
We came here whilst visiting the city for the day and so glad we did. It’s a stunning building and absolutely beautiful inside. You can do a tower tour but we didn’t do that this time round. The crypt was interesting. Wonderful place to sit and reflect. Very holy, peaceful building. I very much enjoyed it. I thought £12.50 each was a fair price and more then happy to pay it because it goes towards keeping this wonderful building looked after. The ticket also is valid for a year so it’s worth it for that too.

  • 5/5 Amrit D. 8 months ago on Google
One of the main things to see and visit whilst visiting York. Absolutely awesome and stunning building! Takes your breath away. The history of the building is incredible and has an underground museum, showing how its changed throughout the years and how they've saved and reconstructed it throughout the years. Give yourself plenty of time to see everything as it's a big building and you can easily get lost in it's history for 3-4 hours. Didn't climb up the tower, (275 steps) although would of liked to for the amazing views as there was a bit of a queue and its time allocated. But it was a fantastic and amazing experience and highly recommended.

It’s my first time in York city and I came across this beautiful place called York Minster. The structure is magnificent, gigantic and absolutely beautiful. I really had an amazing time in the building. I went up the tower to have a view of the city and I am happy I did. The memories will linger forever. I also joined the noon time mass and took the holy communion. I lit a candle to pray for my late dad as well. You have to pay to go in and you pay extra to go up the tower. There are toilets when you need to ease yourself. You may also go to view the structure, you don’t have to be religious to go there.

  • 5/5 Philip N. 1 year ago on Google
A fabulous building built to inspire and awe and that it achieves so well. The free tours are brilliant and you learn so much. The crypt and museum are a mine of inspiration and just being under that monumental building is an experience in itself. Then there is the stained glass, staggering! We particularly liked the 5 sisters window which felt was almost contemporary in colour and design yet so ancient. You are immersed in history here, wonderful. Definitely visit.
