I must admit, I was very impressed. Initially, when I saw that a full ticket cost £15, I thought that this will be a ripoff, imagining that it is actually nothing to see inside. But…..🥰😍after a 20 minute wait the story of chocolate began. I will not spoil the experience for those who have never been, but we just came out and already planning to visit it again tomorrow as our two and half year old fallen asleep at the end when it was the most interesting part for kids. I really recommend this place, very nice experience, plenty of chocolate for you to try and a little gift for each visitor.

Had a really lovely experience here. The shop on the main floor is fabulous and is great for finding gifts for various occasions. The tour was interesting and our guide Robbie was witty and did a great job of managing the diverse group. Loved that we got to learn about the history of chocolate production in York as well as produce some of our own creations. Good value for money and a very York appropriate experience.

Amazing experience!! Had been recommended by a family member and was definitely worth the visit! The tour guide (I think his name was Daniel?) really knew his stuff and was really interesting to listen to. Fab tour with lots of information being shared, plus all the chocolate samples too!! We decided to treat ourselves to a fondue with marshmallows and strawberries afterwards from the shop. 10/10 will recommend and definitely be back!!

The York Chocolate Story is not only informative but it is an incredibly enjoyable experience. Our guide (Katie) was incredibly knowledgeable about all information related to the tour, and was engaging the group we were in well. I had been a little bit concerned when I saw the price of the tour, as I have previously been on the Cadbury tour, which is £6 more expensive than the York Tour. My concerns though were completely unwarranted! In comparison (in my experience) you get a much more personalised experience in York. It is not the all day experience you will receive at Cadbury but you are getting a tour guide who can answer all questions, and will do so in a way that makes everyone engaged. It is not only worth the money, but anything you buy from the shop will be well worth the treat! Thank you for an amazing experience!

When I first booked for me and my two children (8+4) I thought it was quite expensive and I still do as my 4 year old didn't engage as much as my 8 year old. The tour and more so our guide Josh was actually far better than I thought and I found the history quite fascinating. The different rooms with its use on technology was great and the free samples handed out too added to the historical journey. The kids (and I) loved making our own chocolate lollies and seeing the chocoltier make chocolate chocolates in front of us which we then got to sample. A great 90mins well spent.

We were visiting York and went for a tour but it was much more. We had Tyler as our tour guide. She was very enthusiastic and friendly, and we had a brilliant time hearing about the story of chocolate. It was very interactive and interesting and she had loads of fun facts to hear. We would all definitely go again and I can't recommend this enough if your visiting. :)

Amazing experience, if the tour wasn't about chocolate, I think Katie would have stolen the show, she really took it from a good experience, and made it an excellent one, what an asset to the company, Information excellent, chocolate making fantastic. Thank you

Love the chocolate and Scarlet’s sweet voice! We all enjoyed her story telling about the history of chocolate in York, from how it started to what we have now. She’s so professional and answered all the questions we had. And more importantly, we all know the trick to show others what to do before we swallow chocolate now! 😆

A unique, educational and entertaining place to visit if you're visiting. They have great engaging and knowledgeable guides, good stories to tell about York's history of Chocolate and chocolate in general. There's a lot of tasting and freebies involved that were done in ways which surprised us. You should book in advance here online. Be sure to visit their gift shop to support them further and to grab some unique goodies, too.

We decided last minute to do this tour and really pleased we did, Rachel our tour guide was great, really knew her stuff, was happy to answer any questions and joined in with a giggle too. Plenty of samples too 🍫🍫

We had our tour with Rachel yesterday. She was fabulous, super informative and had a great energy. And the guy who did our ‘Production Demonstration’ was also brilliant and entertaining but I didn’t catch his name unfortunately! He’s in the photo! Would recommended very much so.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Very interesting experience. The chocolate making was the highlight, but it was all good! Picked up some delicious chocolate to take home. Would thoroughly recommend a visit for any chocolate lovers! Our host Rachel was fantastic, pleasant, and very informative, and made the experience so much fun! 😊 Definitely worthy of a return visit in the future!

What a fun tour! Well worth the money and a lot more interactive than I anticipated. Our guide, Josh, I really made this tour and was incredibly knowledgeable. His delivery of all the information was fun, informative, extensive and easy to understand. I learned a LOT whilst also having an awful lot of fun. Great value and fully recommended!!

Booked the chocolate tour on the 4th of December as part of my boyfriend’s birthday treats whilst we were in York! Gina the tour guide went above and beyond and was very insightful with all the information and knowledge she told us! Could not recommend more!! Rachel and Daniel

Our guide Jamie was amazing! The tour far exceeded my expectations. My two children (ages 8 & 10) absolutely loved it. Jamie did a great job keeping everyone engaged and the tastings throughout were perfect.

The tour was amazing and informative. Had a great time and it was interactive as well. The tour guide, Louis, was very knowledgeable and funny. I especially loved the part that taught us how to taste chocolate and to really evaluate the flavors. It’s gotten me hooked on very dark chocolate lately.

We visited York and the chocolate story was on our list of things to do / see. Due to the weather being good we didn’t book in advance the chocolate story and we when we arrived were disappointed that all the tickets had sold out for the day. So, book in advance if you want to experience the chocolate story. We went in May 2023 during term time on a Wednesday. We had a nice look around the shop and the cafe. We decided not to purchase a drink at chocolate store and went over the road to Caffè Nero for a pistachio latte (super yum). There was a lovely range of chocolate in the shop for a price.

Really fun little place to go! Really knowledgeable and friendly staff and guides. I believe ours was Lee? His knowledge and memory of chocolate and brands was impressive. Fun little activities to do, interactive, really recommend! My friend took me for my birthday and I want to go back with my boyfriend!

We were lucky to arrive for the first tour and luckily wasnt sold out so just a 5 minitr wait and went down the lift to the tour. We learned how chocolate first started out and got a taster. Was a nice tour. There was only 4 of us who took the tour at 10.30am....so more chocs for us. Our tour guide was friendly and made the experience enjoyable. It lasted about 50 mins. We had a few tasters and a little bag of sweets. Then got to try chocs at the end. It showed the history of chocolate in York which are now the big chocolate companies. We got to learn how the chocolate was made and made our own chocolate lollies. The shop downstairs stocked chocs although I found them a little expensive but nice selection.

I enjoyed this tour a lot. You learn about York's history through chocolate. Throughout the tour, you'll learn interesting facts about chocolate making and it will be presented in a creative and entertaining manner. The tour guide made this an enjoyable experience, taking us around and showing us where things were. Throughout the session, he kept us entertained with his knowledge of chocolate history in York, a presentation that was fun, funny, and charming. There is also a chocolate-making demonstration, and you can make your own chocolate lollipops, so you get some free chocolate. I really enjoyed it. You can sample some of the chocolates. It was fascinating to watch the chocolatiers mold some chocolates. They were also very knowledgeable when answering questions. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable in general. If you love chocolate and are ever in York, I highly recommend it. Our tour lasted just long enough for families to enjoy. If you are in the area, I would definitely recommend you visit, but pre-book your tickets.

What a brilliant experience, made all the more entertaining by our excellent guide, Richard - incredibly enthusiastic and thoroughly engaging! Our two boys (6 & 9yrs old) thought it was among the best things they did in York.

This is a brilliant experience. You find out all about the chocolate and have the chance to make your own chocolate lollipop, which was fun and tastes amazing.

A staff member called Gina was absolutely amazing today with our fab tour 👌🍫🍭😁 so much to remember and very detailed information of the story behind the chocolate. A fantastic experience its a must visit, you won't be disappointed. We absolutely enjoyed our visit today and making our very own chocolate lolliepops. Thankyou for a wonderful time.

A fun experience with tours that teach about the confectionary and chocolate history of York. The tourguide was really knowledgeable and obviously very passionate about chocolate. We had a very excitable child on our tour and a school trip while in the big chocolatier room and she managed to hold everyone's attention even with lots of distractions around. During the tour you get to try some of the different chocolates, and also get to try the stages before the chocolate is finished (interesting but not particularly yummy). You then get to decorate your own chocolate lolly, and watch some chocolates being made. The day we visited they were making passion fruit flavoured chocolate and we got 3 each to take away. Good experience, and who doesn't like trying chocolates?

One of my favourite things I did in York. You can get a tour for £15 which includes a history of chocolate starting from the Aztec’s to today. You get to learn about how chocolate is made and even get to decorate your own chocolate pop which is great fun. You get a demo of how chocolates are made and get to have some to eat. You also get shown how chocolatiers taste chocolate. There’s lots of tasting options available throughout the Tour plus a goodie bag! 100% recommend! Our guide Scarlett was amazing too!

  • 5/5 Liz O. 2 years ago on Google
A must for any chocolate lover! A really fun interactive tour and our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. At the end it was topped off by making our own chocolate lollipops and coating delicious truffles. We also got sent home with even more goodies, some of which we saw getting made! My partner and I loved our experience here.

The history of chocolate in York is interesting and you also get some free chocolate. Would have been better if it included an actual factory tour.

Loved it. And Robbie our host was really fun. Kids Really enjoyed it! Best attraction in York in their opinion

  • 3/5 Laura W. 2 years ago on Google
Was not worth the money. Our tour guide was very good, informative and clearly had a passion for what he does as a chocolatier, but that was about as interesting as it got. Too many in group and not sure what we paid £15pp for.

Very interesting. Tour guide spoke very professionally and clearly.
