I've trained on and off in various martial arts for the last 15 to 20 years so have had lots of first sessions. I've had two sessions and I'm thoroughly impressed with the instruction, facilities and fellow students. There's a great culture of fun, helpfulness and training which you can tell has been instilled by the teaching. Sparring is fun, effective but also has a great emphasis on safety which is fully explained by instructors for all students, especially us newcomers. Can't wait for my next session. Would already recommend.

Amazing martial arts and fitness school. Dedicated team who will help you to thrive to the best of your ability. Great facilities including cryotherapy to help heal various conditions. Good energy and music that gets you motivated. Highly skilled coaches with different approaches that combined will help you to excel in all aspects of your training. Highly recommended for all.

Never thought I'd enter a boxing ring. And I likely won't again. But the guys at function First are literally amazing, they'll put you at ease, teach you everything you need to know without overloading you. They will push you to your limits physically and mentally whilst making sure you and everyone around you are as safe as possible. I couldn't recommend them more, Matt, Ash and Dom are all absolutely fantastic instructors!

Trained with function first for 8 week for UWCB and I tell you what! The coaches was amazing. They back you every step of the way, couldn't fault them one bit. Fight night didn't go to plan but they was in my corner, they made everything so much better!, they will invested time into you and train you to your full potential. Won't give up on anyone. If anyone have anything bad to say they must be lying. I recommend them 100%. Just amazing people! Want to say huge thank you to Ash, Dom, Matt and Ben! Many thanks Alex Marsh

I took part in the UWCB and had 8 weeks training with the guys at Function First. Honestly, what a fantastic bunch of people, always felt apart of the gym at all times, they're so welcoming and will always make time for you no matter what. They really do put 100% into you to make sure you have everything you need at the other end.

I started training at function first with UWCB and I have had the best time. Ash and Dom are fantastic coaches, they have given me so much support and so much confidence, I couldn't thank them enough! Matt is so welcoming (the whole gym is!), and I felt so at ease the whole time I have been training there. An added bonus is cryotherapy and floatation located at the gym, cryotherapy is great and I'm yet to make use of the floatation pods. I have had some one to one lessons with Ash and Dom too and they both made me feel so comfortable, and have brought my training on so much. Overall I have had a fantastic experience at function first from the quality of training, the people and the facilities! I will definitely be continuing🤩

5/5 stars. Amazing staff and coaches that go above and beyond in every single way. I did my free training here for the UWCB event as well as the regular timetabled boxing classes. Coaches are very knowledgeable and full of tips to point you in the right direction on your journey ,whether you’re a complete novice or even have experience you’ll learn something new every session. The atmosphere is amazing and truly feels like a family. Everyone respects everyone and everyone is there to learn and push others to strive for better. Ego’s get left at the door regardless. Wonderful academy and will be continuing my training here for the foreseeable future. Couldn’t recommend them more. If you’re thinking of signing up regardless of age, weight, height etc. GO FOR IT!!!

You're looking for a scathing review so you can skip getting fit. Keep scrolling. As someone who tried to find excuses to avoid the gym ( / to avoid moving at all in life), I stumbled upon this gem. I reluctantly signed up when I was at my weakest, lowest and laziest. I really didn't want to but I went and I haven't regretted it. If you're looking to get fit, feel stronger and feel happier then go. If you're someone who needs a gentle nudge, a friendly punch or a therapeutic kick as motivation then go. Or if you are just someone who needs another way to vent after being banned from the driving range then go. The drive they give you to keep going is real, the training they provide is top-shelf and the strength you will discover is genuinely surprising. Also, somehow they make it surprisingly fun! DISCLAIMER: It is hard work. It is exhausting. You will feel pain in places you had forgotten you had but it's during a storm a tree finds out how strong it can be....and what it ate from breakfast! Just go. Eventually it gets hard finding excuses. Your inner lazy bar-steward will thank you for it.

Trained here for 8 weeks as part of the UWCB group - cannot recommend it enough. Superb coaching; everything was explained well, there was a clear focus on safety throughout, and the coaches were really good at motivating you to really push yourself to get the best out of your experience. Even after just 8 weeks, I was so much fitter and more competent and confident than I was when I started. It's obvious, even from the outset, that you're working with coaches that know their stuff, and are passionate about delivering excellent training. Dom and Ash were the two main coaches we worked with, and both were brilliant, although it's clear that everyone that works there is absolutely top notch as well. I honestly can't find fault with my experience; even as someone with virtually no experience in boxing, I didn't feel left behind, and equally I could see that more experienced boxers were being well accommodated as well; they're good at making sure everyone gets a good level of training, regardless of existing experience. A lot of the skills I learned there, especially the cardio training, is stuff I've been able to subsequently incorporate into my gym sessions; you really do get taught incredibly useful stuff. And you always leave training motivated to push yourself, and keep working outside of sessions, as well. Beyond the actual coaching, everyone that works at Function First is very down to earth, approachable and friendly. Able to have a laugh, but still professional when it matters. It's the kind of place that doesn't just leave you physically stronger, but also mentally; at the end of training sessions you feel proud for pushing yourself, and more confident in yourself and your abilities - you leave each session really feeling like you can take on whatever life throws at you. I'd strongly recommend Function First to anyone, it's fantastic.
