One of the lesser-known treasures of Orkney and worth the ferry crossing to Rousay alone, Midhowe is a stunning, cathedral-sized chambered cairn; the neighbouring Iron-Age Broch is equally impressive; both should be a must-see for anyone interested in Orkney's ancient heritage

What a stunning experience! It's amazing to walk around but the walk down and more so back up is challenging.

Very large, intricate and altogether excellent pair of an open air Broch with a chambered cairn under a roof next door. These two structures alone merit taking a ferry over. There is a full days quality archaeology tourism on this island.

Very interesting to explore the remains of this historic site in a picturesque location. However, you need to he quite able-bodied to cross the fields from the parking area. The gradient is steep and ground conditions uneven.

Astounding burial mound dating from 5000 years ago and a 1st century Broch. Not accessible to people with mobility problems but a must see for everyone else.

It is a small site but very interesting. Don’t miss it if you have viewed the chambered cairn, it is a little further along the coast. Get inside and see how it was divided up into two households.

Find yourself back in time. One of the few places open during the pandemic.

This is a really cool site! Definitely worth checking out. It takes a short hike to get there, and going back it's a steep, uphill hike. But, worth it. The coastal scenery around it is also stunning. Great place!
