This was the best dining experience I’ve had in a long time! The setting was romantic and quiet, with great background music. The service was kind, welcoming, and attentive. The guys at The Buttery acted happy that we were so delighted by our experience. At the end of the meal, the waiter even asks I all their patrons if they need a taxi! I think they must take great pride in their job, and it’s obvious that their pride is well-deserved. The decor was beautiful; a little cozy but impressive. There were many things to look at. The food…the food was an explosion of flavor in each bite. I wouldn’t be able to pick my favorite dish. The food was so good that i even forgot to take pictures of some of them, lol! I want to return to Glasgow just to experience this evening again. I highly recommend this place.

We love seafood and they did an excellent job on every fish dishes we ordered. Very recommended! Two fat ladies at the Buttery is very popular restaurants in Scotland and it lived up very well to its reputation! First time trying local food is kind of different but tasting the upscale Glaswegian here is splendid! If you’re looking for some cool place to chill with a distinguished tasty dishes, this is a place to be! The place is well decorated. Good atmosphere with the relaxed old-school feel of a by-gone era. It’s usually busy and fully booked, so it’s a good idea to plan your trip and reserve a table in advance. Parking is available. :)

The buttery is located in a bit of derelict area but you would forget about that once you walk in the restaurant. The decor throw you in a cozy winter chateaux feel. We had the set menu and paid a little extra for the fillet steak. Food was absolutely delicious. The duck and black pudding was my favourite, the onion chutney brought the dish together nicely. Steak was also tasty with the crushed potatoes. For dessert we went for ice cream and pineapple coconut Bakewell tart. Tart was nice but didn’t taste much of pineapple. We both really enjoyed the ice cream especially the brandy one.

Unbelievably good food. Perfect. Lovely place, great staff, as they say, a Glasgow institution. Can’t believe we haven’t been but, we will absolutely be back and soon. Heard about it through “Glasgow good food group” on Facebook

Beautiful restaurant located at the edge of the inner city with some of the nicest staff I've seen. The food is amazing and the portions are very good. The cocktails are strong, and very tasty! One of the seats was not too comfortable and they swapped out my chair with another, no issues there, super nice! The venison was one of the best I've had!

We had heard about The Buttery for many years but never made it here. Tonight... a dreicht, rain soaked Glasgow Wednesday evening was raised to a heavenly level by The Buttery fine dining experience and enhanced by our server Mark. Not too much patter, not too much fuss but 5 star service and wonderful food. Thank you Mark and The Buttery. Wonderful eating places are alive and kicking in Glasgow ❤ xx

This place is pure master class! As a person with gastronomic background I can assure you that you’ll get best possible service on all levels. Food is absolutely amazing and since now on “Two Fat Ladies” will be my place to visit when I’m in Glasgow. Thank you all for a great experience and wish you all the best. 👏👏👏🥂

Didn’t know this is a somewhat semi formal restaurant and I dressed very casual (sorry!) Servers are very friendly and knowledgeable, the decor they put on each table is so cute! I thought it was for holding the bill, but server said it’s decor only. All the dishes, from bread to my monk fish, was absolutely spot on. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted monk fish this good, full of great flavor!

Really good food in flavor and quality. The potions are a good size but a little expensive for the amount. Service is amicable and fast, they will fix things that happen quickly—I had a fly get into my scotch after 2 sips and they replaced it but then charged me for the replacement even though the reason there was a fly was because they left the door open (lack of air circulation otherwise). When I pointed it out they removed the charge of another scotch (also not the same one I ordered).

Old school dining. This place is mind-blowingly good. No sneaky service charges and no two hour dining slot. Refreshing to say the least. Food was superb. Nice portion sizes. Cannot fault this place and cannot wait to return. A pleasant surprise.

O m g. We came here on our first night in Glasgow and wanted to come back every night thereafter! We LOVED this place. It is so homely and the staff are fantastic. Don't get me started on the FOOD! AMAZING! They also don't leave anyone out with full, separate vegetarian and vegan menus. The extra festive menu was lovely. We ate ourselves absolutely silly and were happy about it. Zero regrets. Already can't wait to come back!

Had a recommendation from a friend to eat here and so grateful for that. Had a brilliant meal here. Mains were beautifully cooked, great flavours & desserts were mouthwatering too. Service was exceptional, friendly, nothing was too much trouble and a member of staff overheard me commenting on the coconut daiquiri and offered to write the recipe down for me. Definitely being coming here again when next in Glasgow

We had the Two Fats to You "ultimate dine in" - 2x 4 course meals, 3 sides and cheese for two. Everything was amazing, by far the best restaurant-at-home meal we've had in the last year. Everything is reheated in the containers it came in so you only need to wash up plates. We both had the meat menu, the beef fillet was still pink inside when reheated and it was so tender! Very generous portions too, we would have had enough food even without extra sides. We felt £88 was decent value given the quality of the ingredients. Looking forward to future menus and eventually getting back into the restaurant in person.

Upscale Scottish, and good stuff at that. So yeah, it's upscale Scottish dining. Which separates itself from the more hipster-y fare available further west on Argyle mainly by the white-linen on the tables, the muted/wood decor, and the silver-ware. Mind you, the food is nothing to laugh at - it is all excellently done, carefully plated, and the flavors are designed to complement or contrast appropriately. Pretty much everything is good, if not *very* good - and there is plenty of wine available to go with this. About my only issue with the place is that it really isn't my cup of tea - I prefer a more casual place, but hey, that's just me.

Quaint, cozy, delicious, with attentive service. Two Fat Ladies at The Buttery lives up to it's hype. I highly recommend the scallops, duck, and rainbow trout. Not sure about the chocolate-beetroot-goat cheese cake though. Make a reso as it is quite busy.

Great little deceptive place! Momma always said Never judge a book by its cover!! Emailed ahead to inform we were coming for an anniversary meal to see if there was anything they could do. Ended up with canapes to start and sweet treats to finish. Very friendly staff. Amazing food. Did not disappoint!! Would definitely return!!

I wanted to love it because I ve heard so much about it, but it fell somewhat short of expectations. The starters (scallops with haggis and duck with black pudding) were AMAZING, but everything else was not at the same level. I had the halibut and was OK (no more, no less, fish could do with a bit less cooking, the warm avocado mouse threw me slightly off, everything else was quite tasty). My partner had the lamb duo and his dish was disappointing, no much flavour, no "kick" from the elements on the dish. Our dessert was the coconut/pineapple bakewell tart, which was quite tasty, but not at the level and finness we expected, felt like we could have had it anywhere. Overall, I would definitely go back for the starters and I would highly recommend this part of the menu, but would be reluctant to pay again £80 for this experience. Service was great, very polite, attentive, and quick. Maybe it was one of "those" nights, maybe other options for mains would have been better.

Ate here for a special family celebration, we were seated in one of the private rooms which was a really lovely touch. The staff were fabulous, friendly and attentive. The food was excellent, everything was delicious. There were 10 of us so we tried a wide variety from the menu. As a vegetarian, I was delighted as there were 4 decent options for me to choose from for my main. Special mention to the cauliflower soup (absolutley lovely and warming), the breaded cauliflower main and the bean stew (the star of the show for me to be honest). Would definitely visit again for another special occasion.

They offered alcohol free cocktail, I was satisfied the one called afternoon tea. The haggis tastes very well, it doesn’t have any strong smell of lever, out of my expectations! The waiters and waitresses are really nice 😊 This restaurant is so popular that you should make a reservation in advance. you cannot miss this restaurant

Extremely friendly and attentive staff. If the outside isn't much to look at, the inside is quite charming. Food was great too and it was nice to have a full vegetarian menu rather than just the usual "token" vegetarian dish all for a really reasonable price.

This place is really special. Best meal I can remember in a long time. Scallops were sensational and the venison was better than the 5 star steak house we went to last night! Beautiful! Rory was such a great manager. Extremely accommodating and helpful.

Amazing atmosphere and exquisite food. This is probably the best restaurant I've been to, the food that we had was exceptional. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the Scotch Beef I had was the best I've had. Service was also top tier, very accommodating and friendly staff.

Been here twice with groups - for anyone wanting a bit of high end Scottish fare and charm, this is where it’s at! Gents serve you in kilts, the bar was made out of wood rescued from a bank(I think that’s what he said!) and they are always so kind! If you have any issues with stairs this place is wheelchair friendly :) The food was also amazing!

We had a reservation and unfortunately I wasn't feeling well, so my husband went alone. So, they wrapped up a bunch of mini desserts to help me get better, and it is just ADORABLE. These people are the best! ?

This was my first time eating here and I wasn't disappointed. Friendly, polite and attentive staff and a nice warm atmosphere to dine in. We ate from the pre-theatre menu tonight. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the haggis bon bons and the hot flamed salmon to start. This was followed by the chicken supreme with lovely bacon wrapped bananas for me and the sea bream which my girlfriend waxed lyrical about because she said it was crispy and tender, fresh and heavenly. Lastly dessert which was a good end to a nice birthday meal.

We ended up here because it was close to our hotel, but what an absolute gem. The atmosphere was excellent from the decor to the cutlery and glasses, but the food was exceptional. Every course. The only downside was that they were too busy to fit us in on the following evening. Thank you Helen, Andrew and the other waiters whose names we did not discover.

Very relaxing place to dine, in relaxing and laid back atmosphere. Big thank you to all. Will most definitely be back, for more super cuisine.

A traditional Scottish feel with kilted waitors and wonderful local dishes. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful with gentle music. Whilst waiting for you food to arrive you are presented with a range of handmade breads served with freshly salted butter. These were delightful and I could have happily turned them into my starter. The Cullen Skink was wonderfully delicate with the haddock adding a hint of smokiness rather than overpowering the rest of the dish. The duck was tender to the point of melting in my mouth. Do be warned though that you will need to order sides to make a full meal. To finish I had the Clouty Dumpling which was lighter than it looks. Whilst it certainly wasn't dry in any way, I personally would have welcomed a sauce with this rather than the cream. It tasted wonderful though, so I am not complaining.

Review based on evening meal Fri 23 March 2018. First visit for a few years. A mixed experience - Food was very good value & lovely to eat. Compact and cosy premises however our overall experience was let down by staff who appeared distant and lacking in enthusiasm. Despite being one of only a couple of tables occupied, mistake with bill was made but immediately corrected & coffee supplied complimentary. We weren’t looking for entertainment to be provided by staff but did feel we were verging in inconveniencing them by being there.

Food was good. Staff was nice. Really enjoyed dinner. The place was really nice and cosy. But it was hard to find, even with a big sign I walked right inside and realised I was in the backdoor of the buttery. And wasn't sure if the stairs was for shandon belles or staff only place haha. Don't think there was much choice for starters though.

3 courses for £15. Pleasingly short and straightforward menu. Its not fine dining as you would expect at that price, think pub classics well done, but the quality of the food is superb and a total bargain. Service is professional and attentive. Great place.

Nice place, nice waiters, but the food... I asked for a raw beef and I got a well done. I gave it back, the waitress came back with exactly the same plate saying to me it's another one. I gave it back, she didn't want. I asked to another waiter who apologized and who gave me what I ordered.

This is such a cute place with great food at great price. I was a little hesitant to come at first knowing that it was located in the basement, but it was neatly designed that gives you an element of privacy instead of feeling stuffy. 2 course menu for only 12 pounds is such a steal. The lentil and veg soup was superbly done and the sea beam had just the right amount of seasoning, crispy skin and light fluffy meat. The waitress was also very friendly. Glad I picked this place :)

Even with the latest restrictions TFL is a treat. Great staff, knowledgeable and friendly. Not cheap but sometimes it's nice to push the boat out. Manager is a nice guy too.

Lovely staff and the place itself is very quaint, with an old fashioned atmosphere. It isn't cheap, the sort of place you go for special occasions. Quite handy for the SECC and a short taxi ride to the city centre or the West End. The food is lovely, especially the desserts (and I'm not usually big on dessert) and an excellent drinks menu. Been back a couple of times since the original review, the review stands it is excellent. In addition to what I previously said, last time I was there, I asked if we could be in a quiet corner as one of the diners with us has hearing difficulties, they offered a private dining room, at no extra cost and no detriment to the rest of the high standards, excellent place.

Gosh where do I start, been once and adore the place, I will absolutely be back. The seafood was amazing. Such a welcoming and cosy restaurant, so much to look at and enjoy. Service was impeccable, not alot else I can say there, everyone who served us was very professional and welcoming, happy to help. Foooood glorious food... ! To start we both had the wood pigeon and skurli, first time I ever had either of these and it was just delicious, sauce with it was, I think red wine and red berry jus, it was a really great sauce for the wood pigeon. Main was the scallops with North Atlantic King prawns, Stornoway Black pudding, smoked salmon and fish sauce. Mmm every part of the main was incredibly well cooked with amazing flavours. The prawns were huge and delicious. To finish off we toyed with the dessert collection but decided in the end to have one each. My partner had the chocolate gateaux with white chocolate ice cream - so rich and strong in flavour clearly enjoyed judging by the empty plate st the end. I chose the tablet cheesecake and swapped the Irish cream ice cream for the white chocolate. White chocolate ice cream was so smooth and so chocolatey it was great. The cheesecake itself was light and sweet with lively chunks of tablet crumbled through it and on it. The entire experience from start to finish was simply a delight. I can hardly wait to return!

I don't give 5 stars, but in this case they deserve it! Like many reviews here have said, the staff was absolutely amazing! Very attentive but not overbearing. They kept their distance, but they were there when I needed water, another drink, or something else. The staff always had a smile on their face and was happy to help. I had the Five Spiced duck and the West Coast Scallops and they would compete with the best I've had. I like my food a bit on the spicy side so I really enjoyed the spiced bread and butter. I can't recommend this place enough. Dear Buttery, you made this California guy very happy, thank you.

Cute and plenty of space at the tables and still feels cozy. The service was efficient and kind. Would recommend going. The duck noodle salad appetizer was my favorite but everything we had was really good. We went for lunch. You can do al a cart or set menu of 2 or 3 courses.

An institution. 150 years old restaurant. Waiting staff, excellent. Menu, good choice , mostly seafood. Quality of presentation and flavour, high. Mother-in-law has been in the restaurant business for fifty years and is very fussy about her fish but absolutely loved her fish main course. Thought there was a little too much potato in the seafood chowder but flavour good. The decor and atmosphere comfortable not stuffy.

Excellent food, excellent service, a must try in Glasgow! There’s literally nothing to complain about the food or service here! The scallops are the best I have ever had, cooked to perfection and generous portion as well! The sweetcorn purée goes perfectly with the scallops, you must try this dish!! The five spice duck is super soft and tender, the noodle are a bit salty tho. Highland Venison is delightful as well, the red cabbage in it is so tasty. They do nice cocktails here as well! Even the bread tastes so good here 🤩 The service is absolutely amazing, everyone is so welcoming and friendly, love the decor as well, excellent atmosphere, there’s plenty of seating, highly recommend this place!

Had a graduation dinner here. Food was great throughout. We were given extra time because the ceremony made us running late for our booking. Staff thoughtfully arranged brighter lights and a cockeral ornament on the table! Highly recommend! And thank you all for the lovely evening!

Extremely delightful taste and care toward the food and preparation. We had the scallops and the prawns, which were excellent. The chips on the side and the mushrooms were very tasty. The bread was also a highlight. The service and the overall atmosphere were pleasant. Highly recommend!
