This church is the oldest site of Christian worship in Scotland dating from the 7th century. The building is not particularly old with the steeple from late 18th century and the remainder of the building from late 19th centuary. The building is open to visitors (see church website for details) and there are normally 3 services on Sundays, 09.30, 11.00 and 18.00.All welcome Saints and Sinners alike. I particularly enjoy the 9.30 o'clock service. A real feeling of belonging Numbers of attenders are small but we all get along really well and I come away refreshed . However at present (September 2020) best look at the website to see which services are taking place

The place is incredibly. It is an old chapel with lot of history throwback in 1800. The graveyard was the same, above the Edinburgh castle. Beautiful view and peaceful.

A quiet environment in busy central Edinburgh. The park/cemetery has good views of the castle and a Tiffany window features to the left upon entering the nave, next to a large organ. The volunteers are welcoming and keen to impart their knowledge of the church. The church featured a beautiful piece by video artist Bill Viola when visited but the lighting around the display detracted a bit. Otherwise a decent spot for contemplation or rest.

This is a fun story. Our daughter (from the States) is currently pursuing her PhD in writing at the University of Edinburgh. She has attended this church while there. We visited her in 2019, when she was getting her Masters, and we spent much time at the church and cemetery. Our daughter-in-law is into genealogy, and just told us our 3x grandfather lived, worked and died in Edinburgh, AND is buried in St. Cuthberts cemetery. A little spooky. Great church!

Located in the long shadows of Edinburgh Castle lies an atmospheric church, nestled amongst a landscape of headstones, paths and trees. Often passed by without thought this place provides the opportunity for a refuge from the hustle of the streets above. Walk here in silence and reflect on those who have come before. Stop and read their stories on the markers and headstones. The paths offer a chance to relax and slow down and contemplate the history of this great city.

Founded in the 11th century this church has been damaged or destroyed by various armies besieging the Castle above it so much that nothing is left of the medieval church , the present building is from the late 19th century , the graveyard has lots of striking headstones and all have views of Edinburgh castle rising above it.

Wasn't able to go in but a famous church because of its location looking up at the castle and being positioned in the gardens and just off Princes Street. The graveyard is a great spot for pics of the castle

Didn’t manage to go in but it’s a great cemetery - a lot of history and the church building is fantastic. It also leads down into the gardens and the fountain area which has a selection of food and drinks available during the summer.

The Parish Church of St Cuthbert is a lively, vibrant church in the centre of the city of Edinburgh, with roots going back thirteen hundred years.

Attended Christmas Eve Service, and absolutely loved it. A very historical and beautiful church. My only comment would be they didn't use the pipe organ.

The building is exceptional and there is a lot of local historical interest to be read about the site. I was there to support a friend who was taking the Associated Board of Music Piano Grade 5 piano exam.

So glad I did not miss going to this lovely kirk l surrounded by its kirkyard and gardens. Two lovely elderly keepers inside who are so so knowledgeable and so enthusiastic about the place and its origins. Lovely talking to them. Impressive also to see the small chapel where Agatha Christie celebrated her second marriage.

Some of the gravestones in this graveyard are very old theres lots to see but watch out as its off the lothian road and there Is some drug paraphernalia like old needles and the like in this graveyard. . You can also walk from this graveyard to princes Street Gardens so that's handy.
