Visited twice; first time had a decent-ish comedian and only 8 people in the crowd, including us as a party of 4. Maybe more marketing was needed. It was a Wednesday, although it was during Fringe, I had expected more. The comedian had his moments, although a bit unpolished. Not bad. Second time, a month later, the audience had 9 people including 3 of us, it was a Thursday outside of Fringe. This time the acts were pretty poor as well as being very unpolished. They chose accents as a theme, one of the most well-discussed topics in day-to-day discussion/banter all over the UK, so it's really hard to find original content. Not sure what the logic was behind that. References like "Brits don't know many languages etc", other weak stuff. Felt like a University amateur comedy club standard. Should be £5-7 not £11.

We first visited in 2021, and had a brilliant time. Since, I have been recommending the place to anyone looking for a night out, and I ordered tickets to a show on the 28.01.2023 as a gift for a friends birthday. My friends don't live in Brighton, so travelled there especially, only to find themselves wandering around, for the best part of an hour trying to find the new venue. To find out that the address they had was correct, and the venue wasn't open yet. The phone number doesn't connect, so we sent an email. Within 10 minutes I had an automated email issuing a refund. No explanation whatsoever. Absolutely awful experience for my friends, and really poorly managed. I've still had no communication from the club to explain what happened.

Great place! Lots of fun! Love it! A must go to for everyone who enjoys comedy, laughter and a good atmosphere to socialise, super friendly owner Alex is always there to facilitate amazing evenings! You will find love to the details, a very cosy place, almost like visiting a friends place, good acts and always laughing so much - totally worth going there and enjoying drinks with friends and strangers that become friends as well. Will be definitely coming back! See you there :-)

A few reasons why you should avoid this comedy club (and go to the others in Brighton): - They don't have the experience to know to not let two large groups of very drunk people into the venue (a stag party and b'day party). - After a couple members of this group spend over an hour heckling the comedians to the point they can't finsh a joke management still doesn't step in (but serves them more booze). - They make it VERY clear if you are late you'll be turned away with no refund, but they start nearly 30mins late. - Overall, just feels a little inexperienced, a little too hungry for drinks sales over comedy experience, and certainly over priced (as one of the more expensive comedy venues in Brighton). It's a shame but you're left feeling ripped off as we left before the last comedian (we waited to see if management would talk to the groups - they didn't).

I was at the opening weekend show in the new venue and had a fantastic time, the place was decorated really nicely with good vibes. The comedians were funny, I could see and hear them really well and the seats were comfy. I prefer this location to the old one. There was a heckler at my show who was asked to leave at the break which was really great as he would have been very annoying if he had been left there. The staff were on it. Definitely going here again

I was actually forced out by the owner including threats of legal action. ‘Leave my premises or I will call the police’. That was after a bought a beer. Pretty much in the same moment. No explanation why, no argument before. Just a presentation of erratic emotions. Of course I left with a smile. Shame!

Absolutely amazing! Have not laughed so hard in a very long time, the vibe, venue, the acts and most of all the host! Made a memorable night, if you're coming to Brighton, you need to come here!!!

Came here for my friend's stag do. Notified the venue beforehand who were very welcoming as long as we respected their rules which seemed fair. The whole experience was excellent from arriving to the acts themselves. Martin was very lovely. The acts varied in their humour style, execution, and landing which I personally enjoyed. The experience trumped any lacking in comedy and the variety of acts ensured something for everyone. Our stag party had a great time which I think was helped by our willingness to have a joke made of us. Definitely come with a sense of humour. Overall would definitely recommend and recommend those coming do so with plenty of time to get acquainted with the compere. Good value for money. A great part of our weekend.

Loved this little intimate setting where my husband got a lot of stick from the comedians. All actually hilarious which was great and awesome service at the bar! Brilliant night!

What an excellent Stand-up Comedy evening. A very Cozy venue. Don't let the small cafe/bar look put you off. The drinks are cheap and the night we went the stand-up was hilarious 😆

I highly recommend this venue. Super friendly staff. Owner is kind and up for a chat. I had a great time last night, like always, because all the comedians are consistently soo funny. Martin, the presenter, is a gem and an exceptional stand-up comedian; make you feel at home. Great sense of community. Worth a visit: bring your loved one’s for a wonderful and enjoyable night!

Well, it was a mixed bag. The venue was ideal, drinks at a fair price and once we found it realised it ws a great location. The compare was as friendly and engaging as you would expect and the acts varied greatly, but with 6 to choose from there was something for everyone. These kind of things can be hit and miss, but really for the price, isn't it worth taking a gamble on some live entertainment instead of plonking in front of the telly for the evening g. Live a little ;)

Amazing. Went on a Saturday, all 3 comedians and the host were all amazing. Couldn't stop smiling/ laughing. Honestly wasn't expecting to laugh that much. There's an hour beforehand where you can get drinks and there are breaks in between acts. I would definitely go again and I highly recommend it. I wish they would give us the socials of the comedians so we can follow them on social media

Hilarious acts and such a lovely venue, very small and intimate

An excellent and intimate venue for both the audience as well as aspiring comedians! The club has recently moved to a new location, at 42 Brighton Square. Bigger venue than before, with more laughter, and a whole lot more fun!

Was originally going to try and book the Komedia as always but it was sold out. And I’m so glad it was because I would never have known about the secret comedy club. All 3 acts were hilarious and the guy doing all the introductions was just as funny if not the funniest. Great location and the smaller venue made it 100 times better. I’d never go to the komedia again

Excellent fun, went to Tuesday night open mic, great range of comics trying out new material. Nice clean venue, great sight lines, good speaker system. Bar upstairs and good central location. A fun night out, the Mc was great fun and it was a well run fun evening.

Highly recommend the secret comedy club if you’re visiting Brighton, or live here - I’ve started going as often as possible because the acts are always great (and a fun mixture of different humours), the staff are consistently lovely, and it’s just always a really fun night out!

Really great little venue in the Old Lanes of Brighton to come and see some up-and-coming stand-ups, plus a few more well known names sprinkled in. Tight for space, but that makes it more intimate. Catch the comedy stars of tomorrow today. Nice bar, too with outside table space.

This club reopened in the Lanes in Feb 2023 after moving from its intimate Hove home. It's 3 times the previous capacity and a fantastic space. There is comedy at least 4 nights a week, from open mic on Tuesdays where over a dozen comedians do 5 minutes each, to the weekend pro nights. Great atmosphere and a reflection of just how good the Brighton comedy scene is!

What a gem of a place. Tiny, quirky venue with a great vibe, very funny acts and a compere (Ross Smith) who was even funnier. Brilliant night out. GO!

Great little gem in Brighton! It is very intimate so be prepared for that but the atmosphere was great, we had a great evening here and will recommend to anyone we know visiting

The good parts: The atmosphere is great and the 2 comedians that came on were very funny, spent alot of time laughing. The bad parts: We were about 3 minutes late due to taking a wrong turn on the journey in, because of this, the man at the desk was patronising and made atleast 5 rude comments to us. He spoke to my friend as though she was a child. The show didn't start till way later anyway so not sure why he would treat a customer that way. Secondly, the host was not right for the part in my opinion, she seemed to be a lovely person but comedy wise it was like watching Amy Schumer on stage and no one was laughing at the jokes which made it awkward. Still, an enjoyable night even so due to the cosy venue and great acts.

One of those hidden treasures Brighton has so many of, enjoyed an amazing evening of comedy in what felt like my living room and awesome experience thank you.

I've only been here twice, but I feel like if I lived in the area I'd be coming to this place every other weekend. It's a lovely little venue, quirky, with a nice atmosphere and top-notch comedy. I keep getting emails with heavily discounted offers from them, and it breaks my heart a little bit: they deserve to be fully booked at all times. Do support this business if you have a chance — you'll have a great time :)

Super friendly from the moment you walk in. Very intimate space downstairs (so best for those who are fine being really close to strangers!). Great acts.

A great evening spent there for a comedy night! The acts were really quite funny and the owner, Alex, is a lovely guy with a great passion for his work. The beers are delicious and the crowd super friendly. I'd definitely recommend!

Fantastic small, intimate venue putting on back to back shows with multiple comedians and a great compere. Reasonable drinks and cosy vibe, loved it!

Great night out. Greeted by the owner and the compair, chatting to everyone, really nice vibe before the show even started! Small little basement show, very well organised! The compair was just hilarious, some of the acts a bit hit and miss but still a very good night. A couple of breaks through the evening to top up our drinks and everyone chatting with each other, after the show was also nice as a few people stayed behind to have a drink , nice to sit and chat with owner! Will definitely return when we visit Brighton again 😀
