Spent the weekend here as the kids wanted to get away so we picked this place at random. The beach whilst vast isn’t really a beach you can go down and have a picnic and play around with on as most of it is under water and when the tide goes out, the sand is very wet. Saying that the beach goes on forever and if you are planning to walk on the sand, make sure you wear your wellies!! The pier is one of the longest piers I have been on and is great for a walk although it can get a little windy at times! There is even a little train which takes you up and down which is worth a go. At the end of the pier there is a cafe and amusement arcade with some old school penny games which was great for nostalgia. The cafe does a great hot chocolate and the ice cream was lovely. There is also a little hut serving fresh donuts which you can never resist because the smell draws you to them. Very friendly lady who served us and even gave us extra donuts! We stayed at Ocean Plaza which was very handy with free parking although the Pleasureland didn’t look that busy and very tired so we gave that a miss.

Nice place to go. There's a lake with boats and miniature train Village as well. Can park on sand if the tide is out otherwise Β£8 pond all day parking just opposite.

Lovely place to escape. The the beach is not endless so be careful has the tide can come in fast. Check out the pier its like the oldest iron pier in the country

Be careful it’s very messy, I don’t know why but the « sandΒ Β» is more mud in reality. However the beach is endless and you have a lot of space to be calm and play for example ball games. Car park is close.

Nice clean beach. Plenty of toilets available on that day. Would love to go again. A few phone pictures of the display. It was a great day for everyone.

We visited on Southport Beach on a recent trip to the North England. The beach was clean and is close to the car parks. The pier is great and there is a wide range of catering outlets. I don't think any of them serve halal food which was a little disappointing as a Muslim person.

Went here in a day in August, was absolutely gutted to find the tide didn't come in until 7.30pm! The kids had a beach which didn't even have clear sand, it was all black underneath and not soft to play in. As there was no water and a very hot day, was disappointed to have gone. The scenery however, was nice to enjoy nearby near the lake with swan and flamingo boat rides. The boat rides cost Β£15 for 30 minutes ( have to time yourself on a mobile) for only 4/5 people on a boat at a time. Two people have to paddle with their feet, can get a bit tiring though. There are some other boats on opposite side which charge Β£5 for adults and Β£4 for children each. All in all nyc place to stroll for a walk otherwise if no tide then wouldn't recommend to take your children!

A really fantastic expanse of UK beach! A nice walk along the promenade and the views out to sea are just great. A really lovely part of the world indeed! :)

It was a lovely day out in my home town of Southport down the beach and along the Pier on a August Bank Holiday weekend. The sun was shining cars were all along the beach, people relaxing and ventured all the way down to the sea itself. Plus you could tell the tide had been in, as you could smell that lovely fresh sea air! Ice creams were not to be a miss, as there was a queue for ice creams along the Pier. What a lovely beautiful summers day!

Quiet beach on a brilliant coastline I visited today and the tide was out so couldn't reach the sea to paddle as its dangerous with the quicksand and mud also a few sea puddles left over but instead had a really nice walk along the beach and prom the pier was closed due to issues there was no one hardly about due to off-peak season but still the sun was shining and it was very windy along the seafront here close to cinema bowling alley and retail park the beach aint that far from the town either but If you want to go swimming or paddling I recommend Ainsdale as there is so much room for everyone on the beach

Great place to walk along the beach during sunny day. Water is not that clear so I would avoid playing in the water

Terrible beach all over grown in places with grass so not much of a beach left it is also very difficult to walk on when the sand is wet as it's hard to walk on without slipping and falling it's like a mud bath quicksand the tide goes miles out that's if u can even get to it without getting covered in mud it's not to bad In hot weather as the sun dries the sand up so makes it easier but I'd avoid and just go to Blackpool beach which is way better sea is mostly In at Blackpool

Been here many many times, carpark is on the beach, local icecreme van always there. Sometimes burger van. 22mile stretch of beach so could never be over crowded. Lot of people sit in the sand dunes (much softer sand) beach does get far out, most of the time.

Went here today, it's not bad. However, the sea isn't there most of the time. if you ever go please don't wear expensive shoes otherwise they'll get dirty very very quickly. It's an alright place to go if you wanted to get out of town for a bit. Recommend to visit if you went to Southport, however I'd go somewhere else next time.

As a family we have fond memories of southport beach growing up. We decided to let go of our mums ashes here so we could always come back and remember her at such a beautiful place. Lovely beach to come for a walk in all weathers

Huge beach and the water goes so far back you wouldn't believe it. Came here again for the airshow which was Interestingly hot for once 27'c however there is literally no sense of humanity regarding toilets from the businesses.

Massive, seemingly endless beach... not the nicest and the sand isn't the best... but if you're in a group and want an area where you can kick a football, play cricket or just want some peace and quiet then it's perfect. When the tide is out... it's out! We set off from our deckchairs at the top of the beach and 1.5 miles later we reached the sea! The terrain was very silty and slippy in places so be careful if you intend to do the same. There are no toilets nearby so be prepared to walk to Morrisons. All in all we had a great day on Southport Beach.

You always know someone on the sea wall is watching with RNLI being out there on a patrol. Normally they are nice but always keeping an eye out in the water and mud flats.

Very good place for the dog, just be careful of the soft sand signs and you'll be fine. Great place for a picnic and the plane shows are fantastic. Very easy to get too by bus and train.

A great place to visit, the kids will love it, plenty of rides and attractions to go on, the town is lovely. There are plenty of shops with a wide variety of things, and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat.

There’s a dry strip of beach nearest to the steps full of shell fragments. Unfortunately my daughter cut her foot on some glass. The rest of the beach is wet which is surprising given how far out the sea is. Definitely the muddiest beach I’ve visited. A shout out to the ice cream van man who drives up and down - thank you.

There's a beach, not great as the sea is way too far out, and the sand isn't great, its not very sandy, the beach also has grass.

Love Southport never fails a good time! Great fish and chips , town centre and Arcades. Love their ice-cream selection

Went to Southport for the afternoon. Unfortunately we hadn't realised the pier was now closed, which was one of the main reasons to go. It was a lovely hot sunny day so we ended up with some drinks and a meal at the pub near the pier. I don't think we'll return until the pier is repaired and reopened.

Went there on Xmas day for a walk. Lovely place, tranquil and clean

Lovely beach. It's very clean and spacious - unless you go for a long walk you won't see the sea, 40+ mins walk to the sea. There's toilets available really close to the start of the beach, good parking.

Not really sure how you would rate a beach but definitely more suited to walking. Tide goes out a long way, well past the very very long pier and when comes in leaves the sand very compact / muddy so I personally don’t think suitable for taking the kids, sand castles, picnics etc… If that’s number 1 for your day oust guessing other places may be preferable. Seemed very clean, no litter and well patrolled. Only thing would question is car / parking situation.
