Pork pie at its best in the old fashioned way. This shop since the end of the 19th century offers pork pies, sausages and bacon. The shop is well known in thh little town of Melton Mowbray. The meat in the pie is tasty and savoury. Even a bit outbeaten of the track, but this little shop is impressive in its products.

'Rural capital of food' my rear end! A shop that lives off reputation only. Sub standard service, truly awful breakfast bun, no sausage ready, even at past 9 am, anemic cold bacon only. Given a measly portion each and charged over 7 pounds for the privilege. So, go to Greggs.... a brilliantly laid out shop, with ONE member of staff serving. So there is a line out the door. So didnt go there. Poor food, poor staff, not food service ready everywhere you go in Melton Mowbray. It's like Deliverance, with overcooked pork pies.

Melton Mowbray itself was a little disappointing, and seemed to lack signs for parking. But the star of the show and reason for the visit ‘were pork pies’. I had the chilli and Stilton when I got back, for my lunch, oh boy the cheese was tangy and the chilly gave a good kick. The next day I had the black pudding for lunch, that wasn’t so great, as when I cut it open it was literally a slice of black pudding with a pork pie on top, but it was encased by the most delish jelly and pastry, mouth watering tummy satisfying pies, still got a couple more to try with some beer from Chatsworth, when I get home this weekend.

Awful place, me and my friend were really excited to go here, however the complete lack of customer service was shocking. It was very noticeable that the mood changed when we walked in (a mix of black and brown people). The staff were giving us rude looks and were rude talking to my 3 year old. There was no friendliness or courtesy at all just staring, and when I was served, my products were just left on the counter and when I asked for a bag, it was as though I asked for something so spectacular. What's worse is that we tried the pork pies when we got home and they tasted completely average, would likely find better in supermarket. The final insult was one of the large Dickinsons pork pies I purchased had a short curly blond hair in it (none of us have blonde hair), it was embedded in the pie, what an absolute put off! Completely let down by this entire experience and finally what a waste of money!

Perfect. Definitely buy the ones in the white wrapper, nice crunch to the crust, meat had chunks in it which was much better and a really decent pepper hit. Best pork pie I've ever had, we'll have to call in again next time we are passing.

Worth a visit to get the real deal. Good range of pickles to accompany your pork pie or buy a pie with a 'topping'. I chose one with caramelised onion Amazing pork sandwich with stuffing, apple and crackling too!

Popped up today for the very first time. Picked up some of their famous pork pies ( yet to try them) and had a sausage and bacon cob which was lipsmackingly yummy. Great service and great selection of foodstuffs.

Bought a 'crafted' Dickinson & Miller pork pie (£6.95) from 'Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe' in Melton last Thursday and when I opened it on Saturday, the pie was very overcooked and parts of the base pastry was actually burnt! Tried to email the company but the address used from the website 'bounced' back as undeliverable, so I left a telephone message asking someone to call me back. No-one has bothered to do so; if a rating of 'zero' was available, then I would have used it!

The finest pork pies in the world. Get one Dickinson & Morris AND one from Mrs King's. Both are baked on site, but the recipes are different and it's very hard to choose one over the other! Which is your favourite? Lots of other lovely goodies to choose from too. If you're in Melton, then it's an essential visit.

Lovely to get here at last. The hot sausage rolls and hand raised pork pies were worth the journey, it's no wonder they win prizes. The Eccles cake was the best I've ever tasted

First time in a while I got to town and took the opportunity to visit Your shop.. what a disappointment.. what’s happened to it?!? No Stilton or flavoured sausages, so tried for a Stilton Quiche, none available , it’s only 09:50 in the morning so decided to have a bacon and sausage cob to take out.. the sausages and bacon both dried out and chewy! Absolutely gutted it used to be a shop you could rely on choice and quality, no longer it seems! The lady serving me was very nice and apologised for lack of product but no- I won’t be returning!

Had a white label pie (made on the premises I believe). Very tasty with lovely pastry and firm meat. They also do some nice large baps. Perhaps not the cheapest place to shop but worth it once in a while. My only minor criticism would be the rather curt girl who served me. A smile always helps - but I'll be back 😃

Ordered the pork pie hamper as a birthday present. 2/3 of the pork pies came with an expiry date of the next day! Emailed on the 25th Nov to question this and was told replacements would be sent out the following Monday. It’s now 5 weeks later and still no replacements. A nice little shop with good quality products but disappointed with the service received.

Bought 3 of the Kings Coronation Pies and nobody was disappointed. Everybody loved them. Sadly I didn't get to sample mine as I have been poorly the past 13 days but my 95yr old Mother really enjoyed it and devoured the whole pie to herself. I was just glad it didn't go to waste. Never mind I'm sure there will be more yummies soon to try. Still got the Apple Chutney to enjoy . Thank you folks again for making something enjoyable, and people reading these reviews take no notice of the bad comments there's always someone out there to try and burst your bubble.

We chose this shop as given its name we thought it would be the best place to buy a proper Melton Mowbray pie Haven’t tried the pie yet but it was a very disappointing visit. There was no interaction from any member of staff Not even a thank you when we eventually managed to attract the person serving. Wish we’d taken our custom elsewhere now

It is the best pork pie shop ever and the food/store has a lot of history altogether so it is a lovely place to just buy food and relax.

Was in Melton Mowbray so decided to pick up a Pork Pie from it's origins so to speak. Nice shop, average tasting pork pie which I found was out of date the day after my purchase.

Wonderful! What pork pies should be. My mum used to make her own, but this is the only one to ever measure up. You really must try them.

Well.... when in Rome !! Could be organised a bit better. Maybe large signs to explain what each pie is - this would stop new customers having to pick up each pie and read the individual label! Loads of choice ... but hidden further back at the shop, behind everyone. I put down various pies I was reading and bought delicious topped pork pies. Turned out to be 😋 yummy.

Handmade flavour topped pork pies are amazing. We had Stilton and hot gooseberry. Also two yummy sausage rolls also made on premises.

When you are in Melton Mowbray and as tradition dictates plus it is land of Pork pies, you have to pop into this delightful shop on the high street. They have been selling pork pies and other treats of course, for a very very very long time. It did taste good and yummy. We also bought some Lincolnshire Poacher which was great and the Hunt cake which was quite yummy too. So, pop in if you like Pork pies when you are in town and treat yourself to quintessential British invention renowned all over UK.

Need to sort out their labelling. Shop made items mixed up with factory made products - who wants a factory made pie in Melton Mowbray, (and you get the same factory made pies in Tesco cheaper!). Pricing also obscure, and when querying the prices was met with ill grace. However, the shop made raised pork pies are good.

Can only comment on the sausage rolls. The first we had a few weeks ago were delicious but the ones bought this week were not so good... definitely a different type of sausage. We do prefer consistency so don't think I would chance again.

A well deserved reputation for being the best retailer of fresh Pork pies. Lots of variety, flavorful pies and other baked goodies. Energetic and friendly service. I can recommend Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe as a resource whether visiting or residing in Melton Mowbray. Definitely worthy of my 5 stars.

This is a shop where you should go to buy true Melton Mowbray pork pie. Also you can get here freshly baked sausage rolls and baps with sausages. I honestly recommend this shop.

Great old pork pie shop and a must visit. They had a large selection of pies, pastries and baked goods which were delicious. The shop is quite small and while there became extremely crowded so expect wait times. Staff were friendly and prices are what you'd expect for a artisan bakery.

Ye Olde pie shoppe 👊🏼 Short trip and realised we were near Melton Mowbray and the home of the pork pie so diverted to D&Ms. Got a pork pie with Stilton, a ham and Stilton quiche and bacon and sausage rolls to go. Great.

  • 5/5 Peter M. 2 years ago on Google
Lovely pork pies. You can have them topped with, cranberry, Stilton cheese, gooseberry chutney, apple and others. They do a hunters cake, we didn't buy it because it was £19, but you needed to do a work out at the gym to lift it. Looked scrumy though. Also very tasty quiches.

Stop looking; you have now found the perfect pork pie. All other pork pies are simply filling the time until you can get your grubby mitts on another one of these perfect, pastried delights.
