Been here before some years ago and remember that the real ales where great. Always meant to come back and try the food. I was not at all disappointed. Food was very tasty!! I had seafood plater and my partner had Sunday roast. Local Moorhouse - White Witch beer was good. Staff were very accommodating especially as we changed our booking time to earlier. Plenty of parking. The restaurant was very busy and I'd recommend booking ahead. I'd say that it was slightly on the expensive side main course's were around £20 and beer £4.20

This was a gem of a find on a rainy day visit to Clitheroe. We had just driven away from the town, saw a brown sign,a quick U turn and down the small lane into the village. We were lucky as it was about 1:45 as this is a very popular restaurant. Friendly staff found us a table and were we pleased ? oh yes !! Excellent food generous portions, friendly service and staff and not overpriced. Lovely view from the conservatory. Suggest booking as very busy but do yourself a favour and go.

Absolutely love this place! Amazing food amazing service. Perfect for a sunny day eating in the garden (also just as perfect to sit in on a rainy day)

Attending a wedding nearby and stayed here. Pub and food really good and a lovely setting. Stayed in room 8 and was very disappointed. The room was small, old, very dated and dreary. I didn't sleep most of the night as the mattress was hard and very uncomfortable, the carpet looked dirty and the shower dial was loose. It felt like we were in the 1980s. Same with the upstairs corridor. Our travelling companions stayed in the annex and their room was lovely ...although we paid the same price. Do not think this is right!!

Very busy, but great service and selection of ale's. Six of us eating. I had the 'Worston Whale' & chips. 2x pieces of fish, completely different colours. One tasty, thick and crisp. The other thin, overcooked and chewy. 4🌟's as the other people in our party were very pleased with their meal, but mine wasn't great.

This was the first time that we had visited this pub but it is very popular. It's just as well we booked because all the other tables were reserved, even though it was midweek lunch. I can honestly say that I can't fault the service or food. And that's a first for me! All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will definitely return when we are next in the area and will recommend it to our friends.

Been here 3 times now in the last year or so. Never had a bad meal or experience. Food has always been very good and cannot complain over the size of the portions. Good range of dishes on the menu plus the daily specials. On my most recent visit I ordered the sirloin steak. Asked for mine rare. Initial impression on the first taste was it was slightly overcooked but, as I cut into the steak,it just got tastier and tastier. I would certainly recommend the Calf's Head. My only minor complaint on this visit was not one member of staff came over to check or ask if everything was alright. What made it worse was we saw staff going to other tables to do this. So a minor quibble but this didn't detract from the quality of the meal.

Lovely village pub. Huge picturesque beer garden with great food to go with it. I had the braised steak which was cooked just to my liking. The peppercorn sauce was delicious. The chips were chunky, fluffy on the inside and cooked very well. Excellent - would highly recommend visiting when the suns out and sitting outside.

Really nice pub/restaurant with conservatory area and large and lovely outside beer garden (can eat outside too). Super child and dog friendly, good food and quick (if a little brusque at times on last visit) service in a lovely spot. Recommend for eating out with or without kids and/or dogs. I'd give 4.5 if I could but I can't.

Lovely place, with plenty of space, but the fact we were forgotten about once we were seated, took the shine off our visit there. Had to ask for a menu twice. Food was lovely when it arrived, although the roast potatoes were a little bit tough and dry. Still recommended this place though, as a nice place to take your parents for a meal.

What a find! Warm and welcoming with a relaxed vibe. The room was spacious and clean with a sizeable en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was hearty with plenty of choice and the village is picturesque and tranquil. We will definitely be back!

Popped over for lunch today, I've never had a roast dinner that poor in my life! Absolutely atrocious... boiled new potatoes and the sloppiest stuffing. Inedible. Partner had fish and chips which was nice...

Had a meal at The Calf’s Head which was lovely we’ve never been disappointed always had amazing food and service. I would like to make a comment concerning the guy who is in charge, i’m sorry but we love him he has a dry wit which is good. He’s attentive misses nothing which is an excellent attribute in hospitality. He’s lovely with our granddaughter who also thinks he’s funny.

I have recently moved to the area and I have been really impressed with the quality of service and standard of food at the Calf’s head. I found that the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating and made the experience extremely pleasant. The menu is pretty extensive for a local pub and they have multiple options for dietary requirements. I look forward to coming back and will be recommending to my friends and family.

Wish I could give a 0 stars as this pub was absolutely atrocious. After booking a table, the tall older waiter with dark hair was inherently rude to us. However, we could move past that if the food was good, in which was thawed frozen food that was comparable to canned dog food. Would not recommend.

I went for a meal with the family a couple of weeks ago, the mixed grill which a couple of the party ordered, really under cooked, in fact the lamb tasted off. Someone else had lasagne which wasn’t good either (a simple dish too) one member had toad in the hole, again sausages under cooked & the Yorkshire pudding had a soggy bottom, another party member ordered braised beef, of which I can say was delightful, the service was rushed by the waiter! I have always enjoyed the food there, but never again!!! Eww

Called in for a meal without booking and was offered a table immediately. Ordered the home made Cheese Pie which was excellent. We enjoyed our visit so much that we made a further booking for the week before Christmas 🎄

The meal we shared with other members of our coach party was absolutely beautiful hot tasty and well presented variety of sweets was amazing . Shame that my husband's meal was 20 minutes last as there seemed to be a bit of confusion over numbers if someone had enjoyed his meal there should have been one of something else over and he would have been happy to have had that

Stopped off as a random place to grab a coffee and some lunch on way home. Amazing place. Deceptively large, lovely dining room with conservatory, spacious and comfy. Friendly staff, food was really tasty with some big portions. Obviously a hit with locals and non-locals. Will certainly be back at some point.

The Calf's head is based in a lovely village called Worston, I have attended many time over the years and always been a delight. The staff are friendly and possess excellent customer service service skills, they really cannot do enough for you. However, on the last two occasions the food hasn't been prepared or described correctly. I ordered Scampi and Chips, it came with gardens peas, I was so yummy but then noticed black pudding in my gardens peas, I food item I do not eat. How was this contaminated? I spoke to the staff and this was rectified quickly and the cost of my food was removed from my bill. I went yesterday ordered a Lancashire Cheese and Branton sandwich - no crumble no creaminess to it...I was asked if I would like something different? No thank you I had just had the smoked Salmon and prawn platter which was delightful and fresh. We had a fantastic time with the family there. It came to pay the bill and my sandwich was still on there. The food delivered was not the same as on the menu or I wouldn't have ordered it...I ended up paying for a sandwich, salad and crisps that I didn't eat as this wouldn't be removed from the bill :(

We stayed at this hotel for 2nights b&b. The rooms are dated and need a refurbishment but clean. We had a room over the function room which had a wedding on. The floor in our bedroom was vibrating and the noise was horrendous. The disco and a saxophonist playing. I went to complain and asked if we could have another room but was told there wasn’t any spare. I was told that the music would stop at midnight. I explained that I suffer from Menderes disease and the noise was setting my vertigo off. I also said it was common courtesy to let people know that there’s a wedding on and that there would be noise. If I had been made aware of this then I wouldn’t have stayed there. They did apologise for the noise and said it was unacceptable but they would ask the DJ to turn the bass down. (Which didn’t make much difference) The occupants in two other rooms also complained about the noise and did say our room was the worst. The manager? Who I spoke to said he would see me in the morning and talk about a part refund.( not a full one) on check out I saw him and the stone faced lady who I handed the keys to and all I got was the two of them refusing any refund and there attitudes towards me were not good at all. (Clever in fact.) The breakfast wasn’t good.Burnt toast and 2 solid poached eggs. My partner asked for poached eggs on toast and some beans and they took one egg off and gave him the beans.I will not go there again. And the 2 who spoke to me on check out should have shown me some courtesy instead of the way I was spoken to. Especially the woman.(Who doesn’t know how to smile) All I wanted was some sleep as I was attending a wedding on the Sunday and this made me unable to enjoy it as I had vertigo and was so tired.

We have just eaten here. Big let down for us was the cheese pie, unfortunately it had more potato than cheese and despite what the waiter said, at no time has anyone ever preferred more potato in a cheese pie! Very disappointing, using potato is a cheaper way to make cheese pie, unfortunately it ruined it for me not being a meat eater. I would have to say this was probably one of worst pies we have ever ordered and tasted. Had we known this we would have chosen to eat elsewhere, we will not return or be recommending. Waiter tried to be funny but he really wasn't. Asking where the toilets are should receive a simple answer.

We had our first visit here yesterday 7th October, we had an overnight stay. Beautiful village pub in a beautiful location. Staff was lovely and very attentive, food was outstanding, our room was lovely and warm, bed was very comfortable, bed linen was lovely and clean the room also. Tea tray had a decent amount of teas, coffee, hot chocolate etc. Shower was lovely and hot, didn't want to get out. We was greeted when we came down for breakfast, breakfast was lovely. We really enjoyed our stay. A big thumbs 👍 up to you all xxx

Excellent food and service. The staff where very friendly and helpful. The food was hot and very plentiful. A bigger than average menu meant we had to go for a second session. Highly recommended will be going back as soon as I have lost some weight.

Lovely food but such an increase in prices. Loved the lasagne. I had a side salad too, but £3.80 for a small side salad is crazy!! The dining area is now beautifully modern and attractive 😃

A nice clean place, great food, and friendly staff. The Worston Whale, is positively the largest battered fish, that I've ever eaten. I've gone past this place many times, but previously never stopped. I would certainly recommend a visit to here.

Firstly, staff are lovely with good service on a busy day. Came a few years ago, wasn't impressed then (had a feel for being from the 90's), been a few times in the last 6 months for family gatherings (so not my choice to go but always willing to give somewhere another try) and my overall assessment remains. Decor has been updated, so doesn't look too bad now (but still not going to age well), however, food still feels like it's a 90's throwback and what you get doesn't really match the price, it's not expensive (£25 or so per head) but generally low quality, low flavour with a boil in the bag, microwave oven feel. No doubt some foods are made fresh, garlic mushrooms okay, salmon not bad but the majority has the feel and taste of food that comes frozen from one of the large industrial suppliers, one dish on our table was served with what was clearly Bisto gravy and any even half-decent chef/cook is able to make home made gravy, this coupled with every main dish appearing to come with a weird serving of mashed carrot and sweed more suited to an old folks home, means I'd go out of duty but nothing else.

We had a surprise 60th birthday meal there. The meal was very nice apart from the chips. 5 people didn't eat them as they tasted like they had been re-heated. Complained about them at the end to the management who didn't even apologise or offer any reason why. Won't be going back there in a hurry .

Our family favourite. A trip to the calfs head can take us all from I'm busy to I'm on my way! We have been going for several years and the staff always make us feel like part of the family, taking it to a whole other level with my young son. The food is incredible every single time and the pricing is very reasonable for the standard of food you get. Also the hotel itself and the grounds and beautifully maintained. The only downside is the more people discover it, the less likely we can get a table when we want one 😂

-Lovely food. -Big garden. - Allows Dogs. -Huge parking space. Really high quality food. Kind of annoying to have to order food at the bar which is usually very busy. The whole place seems fancy and quiet country for adults, however both times I've been now there have been loads of children running around screaming (outside). Not the restaurants fault but I do wish it was adults only.

The food here is gorgeous and I will be returning regularly. My only complaint is that the dessert was described as a strawberry and raspberry pavlova, which it certainly wasn't! It was a shop-bought meringue nest with the fruit and cream. For the chef's information pavlova has a different consistency inside by using cornflour and vinegar in the recipe that makes the inside almost blancmange-like.Just describe the dessert as a meringue nest with fruit and cream please,to avoid disappointment!

Smaller the town friendlier the people! It was after a tiring hike to Pendle hill, I visited Calf's Head for some calories. I was solo and the whole restaurant was buzzing with mostly local families creating a lively atmosphere. One of the staff member checked with me twice to make sure I was enjoying my dinner and ensured I was comfortable. Thank you for your hospitality to an outsider! :)

We stayed here on Saturday as we were attending a wedding The staff are super friendly and helpful, go out their way to help if needed. The only down side is the room we had, It's very 80's and dated, with pipe work making noises throughout the night. The beds definitely need replacing the mattress old style and lumpy but the hotel is in a lovely location

Called in with a coach trip actually and had a meal booked in with choices. Good food and plentiful. Then they put the desserts out. OMG, I think there were about18 if not 20. Beautifully laid out and great portions. Staff very friendly so highly recommend

Booked the Calf's Head for a group of 12 cycling friends for a weekend cycling tour of the Forest of Bowland. It exceeded our expectations: nice rooms, lovely breakfasts, very good evening meals with wide choice including a number of vegan dishes (so rare - most places do one if you're lucky!). And the staff were amazing - each and every one of them were friendly, welcoming and efficient. Oh, and a lovely beer garden....which we only discovered on the last afternoon as we were out so much!

Excellent food and well looked after beer. We stopped off on the way to Settle for our holiday. The meat in the mixed grill was succulent whilst my OH really enjoyed her mushroom, brie and cranberry Wellington. We were sat in the large garden room at the back which is a lovely setting by the trees, stream and hills. Would definitely stop off again next time we are traveling up to Yorkshire on holiday.

Lovely food. Great staff. Friendly atmosphere. Took a while for someone to acknowledge us at the door and nothing to say wait or anything offering direction for booked tables (which I guess happens in a lot of places too). But apart from that really good

My last visit was pre-pandemic when I stayed at the hotel. This was a visit with a group of friends for lunch. The downstairs of the hotel has been tastefully refurbished and is lovely. Food is excellent and freshly cooked. Good array of real ales. Service was excellent and friendly. Overnight D, B &B is currently £135.00, which for the food, service and location is definitely value for money.
