Radstock museum is a really well maintained, and superbly curated museum in the mining town of Radstock. Located over two floors there is enough local information here to satisfy the most curious of minds, and with some excellent interactive and physical displays there is plenty to keep the kids entertained.. and informed. Even if you are not local the museum offers a keen insight into the lives of miners and the town in general in a time not so long ago. The museum has an excellent little café and a very well stocked gift shop. TIPS: If you are a BANES resident use your discovery card for a discount on the ticket price and if you keep your receipt/ticket you get another free entry. Great for everyone - this is how a local museum should be.

Visited just over a hour before closing so couldn't get to spend to much time looking at everything so will be returning as tickets are valid for 1 year. As I arrived I got my ticket and entered the museum wear I was greeted by a really friendly member of staff who told me a bit about the museum and what they have on display and wear each display is. There is everything from the history of printing, mineing and iron working there is even a little shop showing what you would have found in one and how things looked which is really interesting to see compaird to how things look now. This is a great museum with lots to see and able to learn so much from here. This museum had a café and small shop. There is toilets here. There is step free access to the museum but from what I could see it's only to the ground floor. I really hope to return very soon and spend more time looking around.

A wonderful insight to living in a Coal Mining community. I went because my Great x 3 Grandfather, and his family were Miners in Radstock and all lived there too. So it was a personal journey back in time for me. Run by excellent volunteers, the place is a mine (excuse the pun) of information on that period. Will go again for sure. And your ticket is valid for a year..... How good is that, you can go as many times as you wish. It has been called a little gem, and it most certainly is.

A lovely place spoiled by bad attitude volunteers who have no idea how to speak to members of the public. If you hold an event for young children expect them to behave like young children. Don't treat them like thoughtless destructive yobs when all they are doing is harmless fun. My children weren't touching or destroying anything. They were just skipping or jumping around. I was hoping to introduce them to a local museum as well as attend an organised event. I thought part of the reason of doing this event was to open up the museum to young people. Clearly not.

My husband and I loved this little museum and spent an enjoyable morning looking at the exhibits. It encompasses more than just the local coal mines. The living conditions of the miners and their families are covered in detail. It also depicts the trades associated with mining. All in all a very pleasant experience and cheap too.(£6 each for yearly ticket). Our only regret being the cafe was closed, could have murdered a coffee at the end of our visit. We will be returning. This is an astoundingly good museum. There is so much knowledge accumulated here and they do a great job of presenting it without going academic. They have good challenges for kids too. I've been several times and taken a range of people there. It's a great insite to past lifestyles, local coal mining, geology, railways and canals.

If you are into museums then you will need to visit. This one is all about one of the Somerset coalfields (which I believe was where Mr. Eavis (he's still alive), (Glastonbury Farmer and founder of the Glastonbury festival) once worked. Very interesting, (even a mock coalfield). Enjoy, there is a cafe and kids will love it. Also I believe (or you did when I went you buy a ticket and you can use throughout the year. Enjoy your visit.

Great little find, chock full of mining, rail, and daily life exhibits. The time whizzed past and the volunteers were informative and eager. Nice shop too.

It is a real shame that despite a large area of unobstructed south facing roof the museum has no solar panels. It would be a nice narrative for a coal field museum to demonstrate the transition from dirty fossil fuel to clean renewable.

My first visit to Radstock and to meeting my cousins for the first time ever. They showed me around the museum which I found very impressive indeed. As a city dweller this was a real eye opener for me to understand the hard life experienced by my relatives. I would have liked more time to digest the wealth of material and will no doubt visit again.
