This hall and music museum is really underrated. This is a really nice small place showcasing different vintage harpsichords and clavichords from different ages, with histories behind them. On the ground floor there are many orchestra and unique instriments as well. The staffs were lovely and welcoming. Christine was very knowledgeable, she was explaining histories and techniques behind these classic instruments. I really enjoyed my visit here.

Amazing hidden gem. Working museum and concert space, fascinating history of music around the world told through the instruments themselves. Has a pristine Georgian concert space that has to be one of the nicest places in Edinburgh. Live performances and free entry. Staff super friendly and helpful.

Like others before me I think this is the perfect hidden gem and it’s free. So cool to look at the most beautiful instruments up in close. I just wish there was a way to hear the sounds of the old instruments without touching them to make the experience even greater. Or maybe have some instruments as testers.

Charming and well curated, this museum of musical instruments and organology should be a stop for every musician and student of music. It is an easy and informative way to pass an hour and costs you nothing.

It’s over a year since I found this lovely place hidden in old Edinburgh, and it still resonates. As well as its amazing and very important keyboard collection it also has beautiful displays of countless other instruments. There is a gorgeous little Georgian oval concert hall similar to the Holywell in Oxford and it is used, often with instruments from the collection, for regular concerts and recitals. To complete this idyllic memory, I recall the welcome from the staff on the day was way beyond the call of duty and they answered all my questions (and my request to peep into the concert room when it was being used for auditions) with engagement and charm.

St. Cecilia's Hall in Edinburgh is an absolute gem nestled just off the Royal Mile. Its architectural beauty is captivating, and stepping inside the Concert Hall is a truly unforgettable experience. The acoustics are phenomenal, and the ambiance is delightful. Whether you're a music lover or simply appreciate stunning architecture, St. Cecilia's Hall is a must-visit destination in Edinburgh.

Went to a concert of ancient music on authentic instruments such as scouts. Fantastic. Also a museum of old instruments including a large collection of harpsichords.

Lovely display of many well-maintained instruments, including string, keyboard, brass instruments from the Middle Ages. Some of them are still being played! Really worth a visit! Book or reserve a tour (free) in advance if you can, and you’ll learn so much more!

Great way to spend an hour or two. Craig the volunteer was very knowledgable and happy to answer all of our questions. He had lots of interesting facts that we wouldn’t have otherwise known - thanks Craig!

Wonderful, totally renovated Georgian era concert hall (not so sure about the colour sceme ...!), to hear a trio, led by John Kitchen, singing and playing baroque soprano cantatas and works for harpsichord and various wind instruments. Very helpfully 'curated' and introduced by the very funny John Kitchen. A delight.

A truly amazing collection of instruments! We had a wonderful time browsing the museum and volunteer David was highly knowledgeable, clearly passionate about the instruments, and gave us a great tour. A hidden gem that should not be missed!

This is a gem. It's free, the information is lovely presented, you get an Ipad to hear all the different instruments. So much old history and beautiful concert hall.

A beautiful hidden gem in Edinburgh. Fascinating history of musical instruments. Spent a very interesting 40 minutes with gallery guide Dona in the keyboard gallery, she was very informed and gave many insights to the history and evolution of keyboard instruments. A must visit if you play music, love music or have an enquiring mind.
