Wow is all i can say. This Cathedral is by far the best I've ever seen and i was completely lost for words in here and all it's beauty. You really need to come here and see it to really appreciate it. You pay a donation to enter and there's also a cafe and a gift shop. Vicars Close was also lovely walking up the cobbles and feeling like i was taking a step back in time. If you haven't visited Wells yet then please do, it really is a nice experience

Wells Cathedral has to be the finest Cathedral I have visited. The exterior is stunning and the interior takes your breath away. The scissor arches alone are fantastic and that's without moving from the door way. Almost impossible to write down all the details but my only suggestion would be to see for yourself.

There is so much to write about this unique place. I cannot think of anything that needs improving. Wells is an extremely vibrant city. Wells Cathedral is worth visiting more than once. The level of detail of every aspect of the Cathedral is beautiful and impressive. If you are planning a journey to Wells, I highly recommend seeing the Cathedral, even if it is just to view the outside of The Wells Cathedral. 1. The people in the gift shop were really nice. I think that the woman's name is Sue and there was also a lovely young man, whom I complimented on his green eye shadow. These members of staff were extremely helpful and I noticed that they engaged in conversations with pretty much everyone who visited the shop. 2. There is so much to see. Everywhere you look is just stunning, such as the ceiling. People clearly made a concerted effort to create something which is absolutely exquisite.. 3. The exterior of the building is truly magnificent. There is very intricate detail that should be appreciated. It was nice to see so many people on the grass, enjoying the view. 4. I especially liked The Wells Clock and going up to uneven stairs to The Chapter House. 5. Words do not exist to describe The Chapter House. It is possible to sit there for hours to admire the beauty and uniqueness of it.

Admission on donations. Beautiful cathedral. All the volunteers are really insightful. The library was a highlight for me & I loved how much was open to the public.

Beautiful cathedral! Wells is known as the cathedral city, and is also one of the smallest towns in UK. The cathedral itself is very well managed and offers rich history. A must visit! Entry is free, but they do encourage you to donate towards the maintenance of the church.

Lovely cathedral, well worth a visit. Nice refectory so you can stop off for something to eat and drink. Good gift shop too. Make sure to have a look at the clock in the east transept and be sure to visit the chapter house. Recommended.

Lovely church from the outside as it was closed the day we visited. Lots of detail has gone into the build of this church back in the day. Got some lovely photos. Will definitely need to visit & see the inside.

Well worth a visit. Caught the end of Sunday communion today and explored the inside of the cathedral and the gardens. Even as someone who’s not religious - and recognises the dominance-by-design of architecture like this, it’s hard not to be impressed. Also saw a young homeless man who was sheltering from the rain and listening to the service, and he was being treated with dignity just like anyone else. That was a nice thing to see.

We visited Wells Cathedral for an evening Vivaldi concert. The Cathedral itself is beautiful and well worth a visit. The concert was beautiful, the musicians were brilliant. If you have the opportunity to attend an concert here would thoroughly recommend.

Stunning place, very friendly, very peaceful, off duty cathedral guide on a visit with his own family couldn't help but tell us info about the clock! Easy parking, lovely toilets, no charge just donation, spent much longer there than planned. Wish I lived closer as the concerts advertised look amazing too.

Brilliant and quite awe inspiring cathedral. Parts were closed due to a private wedding however the areas we had access to were great. It’s amazing to see the level of maintenance that has been involved in keeping the cathedral in tip top condition. One interesting (and quite incredible fact) was daily the running costs. You can find this as you reach the shop on exit. Very much recommended, especially if you then also head into the town centre and bishop’s palace for more history and amazing gardens.

Such a lovely place to visit the cathedral is just spectacular definitely worth going. To enter is only a small donation. We also went to the little Market they have on, on a Wednesday and Saturday lots of nice little stalls.

Obviously a place of very much religious and historical interest but the architecture is outstanding considering how long its been standing. The 14th clock is something to marvel and some fascinating bits tucked away in corners that I'm sure a lot of people miss. Was lucky to hear the choir rehearsing. Wasn't too keen on the art exhibition myself as some pieces were blocking view on somethings I was interested in. Nice, peaceful gardens which incorporated the graves of the bishops.

Absolutely stunning Cathedral to visit. Be sure to see the clock when the horse men come out. My husband can remember his mother taking him to see the clock as a young boy and here we are some 60 years later smiling and looking up at the same clock. Such a joy to see.

Fabulous visit to Wells Cathedral and enjoyed the High Places tour (not too many stone spiral steps, I managed well). The building is beautiful and it's almost unbelievable it was built so long ago with just simple hand tools- well done to the carpenters and stone masons of 1175!

Amazingly beautiful Cathedral. It's huge - quite long. The 24 clock built in 1603 is amazing and chimes every quarter hour. Nice cafe too.

Beautiful Catherdral in the smallest city in England, Wells. I recently visited this cathedral for the first time and I was blow away by the marvellous architecture! The cathedral is located next to the bishops Palace and gardens. Both have separate entrances and there a charge of £16 pp in to the gardens which is quite a steep price but I understand this go to the conservation and preservation of the buildings and grounds. The Cathedral has a *Donation fee of a recommendation of £8 pp but they were happy for anything that is affordable. I payed £5 donation and made my way the Cathedral, there was a tour going on which was interesting if not a bit tedious after 30 mins. The one thing is did find was a of the inscriptions are in Latin of course but would be nice if the care takers could have translations in place as to see what they're looking at. I saw some interesting tombs and had no idea who they were as the were all in Latin. I recommend a visit l, lots to see and such amazing artwork that has been there for hundreds of years!

A nice cathedral for a trip out. 2 hours free parking outside. Got some picturesque graveyard gardens. If you are a book fan would recommend going during the week between 1400 & 1600hrs as the library/reading room are open. Worth the £8pp day admission. Unfortunately did not have time to visit the bishops palace behind (separate admission at £16pp for the year).

Absolutely love coming here, my 3rd visit here. It's so tranquil and the Architecture is incredible. If you come you must walk up the worn stairs and if it is open the chained library which sadly wasn't open this visit though I have been bwfore

Having visiting Gloucester cathedral not long ago we decided to visit Wells cathedral after staying overnight in local hotel. Very impressive and the lady at reception was polite and welcoming. Entry was by donation which I has happy to pay.

Such an incredible place with so much to see; the architecture is truly incredible and well worth the small contribution you pay to see it. Loved the art exhibition which was dotted about the Cathedral in quirky and unexpected places and really great. It a friendly place to go too with dogs and children welcome.

Stupendously magnificent cathedral. Frontage covered in carvings, interior awesome architecture. Never seen support structures quite like it. When walking the cloisters, make sure you go right around as there is another garden at the far end.

What a wonderful day out! The cathedral is obviously amazing and the history boggles the mind. It's beautiful, historical, and thought provoking. It's a fabulous day!

Words (and mobile phone pictures) can't really do Wells Cathedral justice. Highly recommended even if you're not religious - it's a feast for the eyes and a part of history, with some parts of the cathedral bearing the signs of previous generations, like the well-worn steps to the Chapter House. The Loft Cafe and shop are good too - make sure you get in before 3 if possible, as some areas are closed off around 4pm for services.

This was an incredible cathedral! The staff were very kind, and hugely informative on the various aspects of the cathedral. The cleanliness of the cathedral was impressive, and the spacious and bright quality of the building was wonderful. The modern aspect of the cathedral was also very impressive, and I would recommend a visit!

Such a stunning place. The cathedral is breathtaking. There is so much to see inside! We were greeted by a lovely lady that told us a little about the building. There’s lovely art inside as well!

A very beautiful cathedral, there isn't any charge to enter but they do ask for a donation for an adult the suggested donation is £8. We'll worth a visit. At the moment the cathedral is hosting a contemporary art display, the artwork was unique.

Wells Cathedral stands tall and imposing as it stands guards over the city of Wells. The city of Wells the smallest city in England after the City of London is a renowned cathedral city. The spires and medieval architecture of this Norman behemoth still impresses today imagine the awe it inspired when built in the early 13th century. It’s Gothic style is a joy to behold. It’s grounds are extensive and a lovely way to wander around this huge structure. There is a nice visitor centre and museum that takes you on a journey through the history with an insight into the lives of the people who lived here. The cathedral is one of many places to visit in Wells and a must see destination if visiting the area.

The cathedral itself is stunning, a real piece of history! There was a contemporary art exhibition going on as well, so they are combining the modern things with the old. The 600 years old astronomical clock is also a unique feature. On top of that the people who work here are super friendly. It is a must to see!

It was a great place to wander and the Shroud exhibition was great to contemplate before Easter. The choir was a plus while we were visiting. Would go back again. Entrance is optional for donation of whatever you can spare. If you want to avoid this awkwardness of having to donate, go through the right side which is just next to the entrance and you can go into the cathedral without any fuss.

Beautiful place to visit, entry was just donation and the tour guides were exceptional! Great gift shop and cafe on site too. Parking is not great dread to think what it’s like at the weekends!

I took the high parts tour, the 118 steps were split into 2 manageable portions. The guides are very knowledgeable, and seeing parts of the cathedral usually out of bounds is fascinating. Our group had 10 people booked on, any more would spoil it.

Fantastic building in amazing setting. The scale of the cathedral doesn't hit you until you see it in person. The facade towers above you with a majesty only historic buildings possess. Intricate masonry and statuary cover the exterior. We'll worth a visit.

Truly one one of the most beautiful cathedrals in England I've visited. Rich in history. Friendly and welcoming staff. Also dog friendly. Went in asook as it opened and we had the cathedral all to ourselves.

Wow .... Not only us it very beautiful on the outside . The inside is amazing. We started off with the £8 each "donation" then spent over an hour exploring this magical place.... Some of the rooms are stunning in architecture, it's very well kept and the clock is fabulous... You have to see the clock . If I had to moan about 1 thing it's the donations .. Donation to get in (fair enough) Suggested £5 donation when your in the door £2 to light a tea light candle 😐. Apart from that.. stunning ..
