😠 I went to A&E yesterday at 11am for sudden severe head pain which my GP said could be inflammation of brain nerves such as a brain bleed. I went in there absolutely terrified and had to wait 4 hours just to have a CT scan. The A&E department is terrifying ! I have been to night clubs that are a safe... I went to A&E yesterday at 11am for sudden severe head pain which my GP said could be inflammation of brain nerves such as a brain bleed. I went in there absolutely terrified and had to wait 4 hours just to have a CT scan. The A&E department is terrifying ! I have been to night clubs that are a safer environment as I witnessed 5 fights with physical contact with security and patients who refused to wear masks or leave their partners behind. There are more security guards available than actual medical staff. It took a further 5 hours of waiting for the CT scan as I lost my patience and asked reception when I will I get my results ? The receptionist said I had been discharged. I began to cry from fear and exhaustion and I was sent next door to ask for results. Next door is just another ward and do not want to be bothered with you, 2 young nurses said I had fell asleep or wandered off that's why I didn't hear my name called for the results. My blood was boiling at this bold face lie as I had sat there for 10 hours full of adrenaline watching each staff member announce names. Reduced to more tears one male nurse took pity on me and I was finally allowed to see a doctor. This entire process took 11 hours of my life. I got to witness staff and how they operate closely for 11 hours and all I can say is the only asset in that department is nurse Laura who is clearly very competent and caring towards patients. The department has an ancient method of shouting patients names if patients are actually deaf asleep or have attention problems forget trying to get medical attention. Avoid this absolute circus of a place its designed to drive you mental enough that security while drag you out.

I was there today April 8 2022. I signed in at the emergency department at 12:30 pm. Hours later I learned the receptionist did not sign me in. They called her as she had knocked off. The staff pushed me up according to the time I was there. Numerous people got their blood pressure taken. I was told by the lady taking the pressure that I can’t have mine done. I went to the reception desk and a very rude young man and woman that came on the next shift told me I can not have my blood pressure taken. They were just telling another patient they can not have their heart rate checked. I was told you need to go to a GP. I expressed how many blood pressure monitoring took place in front of me. I was told go find the lady doing them. Than a dark hair lady receptionist hissed and told me I will not get my pressure taken, go to a GP and get away from the desk. I left because it was security and police officers around which I am sure she could have summons to arrest me because I wanted my pressure taken. Thank God and I give 1 star for the young lady who took my pressure and the nurse practitioner who read my X-ray results to me.

I came here yesterday with an absess in my face after being refused care and shown no compassion at Urgent Care medical Centre in Nottingham I broke down crying in A&E the staff were absolutely amazing. A nurse sat with me and did deep breathing and calmed down, staff kept coming to check if I was OK, they took scans and x rays, took my bloods and gave me medication. I am so grateful to them for showing me care and compassion. Thank you so much to the staff at Queens med, you're amazing x

My late wife was the matron of ED in the 2000s. There are still ED staff working there who knew her. We attended about 21:00 hours last night with a frail and elderly lady aged 86 (my partner’s mother) who was complaining of severe pain and a swelling in her knee area. 111 had directed us to take her there. Nine hours or so later we left without her having seen a doctor (bar one sticking their head into the cubicle she was in and saying she needed to see another doctor). In the end, my partner’s mother couldn’t face waiting any longer and we planned to take her to her GPs first thing for a doctor there to look at it. It was a shock to see how the place is now having not been near it since my wife’s death in 2021. Security permanently manning the ED waiting area entrance, hardly any staff visible, one doctor seen working there for the entire time we were there. Just a general air of despair from the many waiting for help who in some cases had been there for 12 hours without progression. My wife would turn in her grave if she could see the hell hole it has now become. I can only hope and pray I don’t meet my end there.

I'm not sure why I was thinking about this last night but it just goes to show how poor bedside manner can actually stay with someone a lot longer then the positive experiences. I actually got out of hospital on Christmas Eve 2005 (shows how long ago it was) after a 2 month stay in Nottingham Queens. I'd managed to catch a very rare disease and my family was told to say their goodbyes. While I'm aware there were a lot of fantastic nurses and doctors that helped with my recovery (so I'm sure that my one star review is in no way an accurate representation) there is one memory that has stuck with me all this time, 17 years later! I recall on one particular occasion that my sister and mother had came to visit, I had a tracheostomy tube in so was unable to verbally communicate and I was pretty tiered with all of the treatment I was receiving and therefore spent most of the visit asleep. A doctor (I don't recall his name) then decided it was at this time that I must complete some tests to test my cognition. He woke me up to complete these tests, to be honest I just wanted to sleep and wanted no part in these tests at that particular time. I then remember, clear as day, that he turned to my mum and sister and said "if he comes through this, he's going to be slow" as in cognitively impaired. As stated this is the one thing that has stuck with me all this time and while I'm sure that there are a lot of fantastic nurses and doctors that helped me it's the negative experiences that can have the big impacts. Needless to say that I am not "slow" as he put it and the whole experience did shape my life as for the past 13 years I have worked in care as it did make me realise that I wanted to help people so every cloud has a silver lining.

90% of the nurses are compassionate, kind and caring. It’s a shame the 10% of cruel and nasty nurses with no compassion or empathy completely ruin it. A hospital is somewhere people are vulnerable, scared and at their worst. Nurses NEED compassion. I have been through an emotional rollercoaster being at this hospital. And that 10% have made sure I will never ever be back. I was treated extremely unfairly and I was bullied in to signing an “against medical advice” slip before being ignored and chucked out. I am still severely ill and have absolutely not been helped whatsoever. I have no idea where to go from here for help.

I went for a surgery over night here, the surgeons did an amazing job, I felt in safe hands throughout the process and my quality of life has improved. The nurses took amazing care of me and I'm proud to have this hospital in Nottingham, it deserves more credit than it receives and more funding.

Unless you want to waste 12 hours of your life in accident and emergency watching nurses gossip and mess around avoid as much as you can. I’ve been to A&E around 8 times in the past year because they failed to diagnose gallstones and kept telling me to go back to the gp or that I was having an anxiety attack. I was admitted early this morning at 5am, I’m now on a ward which I have been for the past 7 hours, in total I’ve been in hospital for 16 hours with no answers to the cause of my pain. Unless you’re a mind reader the communication is diabolical and you will just get passed from pillar to post without any explanation. I’ve had 2 ct scans today for the exact same reason which is just a waste of resources. Have to wait 2 hours when asking for pain relief, unless you are dead on the floor the staff do not care. 99% of the nurses are beyond rude, condescending and patronising and have no interest in your well-being.

Went to the hospital with severe immobilizing pain on my left abdomen. 5 days later I was discharged with the same uncontrollable pain being told I could medicate at home because nothing had shown on their tests. So now I'm still in agony despite telling multiple nurses and doctors I was still in pain. I was made to feel like I was just taking up bed space and now I don't know what to do about the agony I'm in... shame really because there were a couple of nurses who were really lovely and genuinely seemed to care about the pain I was in. The consultants however are very much ready to gaslight you about your symptoms. Update :- had to go back 24 hours later and was given a CT scan. A kidney stone was found to be the cause of my pain and I was sent to city hospital for treatment.

I had surgery on Monday and had to stay few days after the operation due to having some drains fitted on my neck. I would love to say my most sincere thanks to all the staff on Ward E14❤, the doctors and nurses that were involved in my surgery❤ as well as all the other people that are involved in and helping to deliver great care. I felt very well looked after and I felt like I was in safe hands. Nothing was too much trouble. We should really be thankful for NHS. Kasia❤

Had an eye injury, and went to eye casualty queens medical. Awesome experience 1) plenty of car parking options 2) Triaged according to priority, not by nationality like in the Middle East. 3) Seen by ER nurse, treated by ACP and Ophthalmologist. Professional approach, good communication. 4) Pharmacy is a bit slow in delivering medications

Very large hospital. I got lost in the carpark before even entering the building. Lots of parking spaces. Although getting lost, and the signs within the hospital not being very helpful, there were plenty of staff about. I didn't even have to ask for help, I was offered assistance on numerous occasions. Everything was clean. We were there for a referral for my daughter. The whole visit was very good. We were well taken care of

Attempted to do the right thing on Saturday night and took my brother who was in excruciating pain to a walk-in centre; were then told to take him to the ED at QMC rather than LRI. Booking in was fine, although no attempt was made to contact the walk-in centre to get his triage notes (turned out he had an enormous abscess which needed draining immediately - sepsis hello?!?!), so we sat for 5 hours waiting to be seen. His obs were taken once. He was given paracetamol even though his pain at that point was at a 9/10. The ED department staff were horrendous. Would call one patient, not get a response, then walk away for another ten minutes before coming back and repeating the SAME name. My brother was sat on his abscess for FIVE hours. Luckily he was finally seen by a doctor who was less than impressed that my brother hadn’t been bumped to the top of the list - again, sepsis - it seems a bit obvious, and I’m not a medical professional! We were then whisked to the STU who were incredible, my family and I absolutely cannot fault them - they were stellar in every way, as were his recovery team in the ENT Centre (C24). We were placed in the family room and managed to have a bit of a rest, albeit on the floor, and then the most wonderful catering manager came and spent some time with us, and made my Mum a cup of tea as she had a bit of a wobble (your son being in emergency surgery does that to you). It’s such a shame that the ED isn’t ran by competent, empathetic professionals whose priority is supporting their patients - they unfortunately seem resigned to the fact that the department is in disarray and continue to make no attempt at providing adequate care; I even overheard a HCA telling another patient that “8 hours isn’t anything, try 16 hours, you’re not the only person whose fed up” Christ. I think the CQC need to drop-in to the ED and give it the kick up the back passage it needs!

15 hours for Sor. On an ordinary day. 15 HOURS. Huge pain in the abdomen on the right side and vomiting. Crying on your knees in the waiting room. After admission to the ward, a scan was performed and serious symptoms were detected and the patient was sent home with painkillers. An appointment for an ultrasound was scheduled at an unspecified time. The pain and vomiting continued. Fluid in the abdomen, inflammation of the gallbladder, etc. are not conditions that should be treated in a hospital. Just take codeine at home and it will go away. This hospital is a joke.

It's always good to get a check up here at "Maxillofacial Unit" by the specialist GDP... Dr. Ahmed is always polite and very informative about dental issues, and advice on treatments and managing issues. Back here again to see Dr Mehta, for TMJ appointment, staff are always very friendly, and polite....👍👍👍 I am having my left jaw joint injected with corticosteroids today for TMJ. I am hoping it will solve my TMJD problems, which are causing my teeth to fracture....

Three times now I’ve been sent to the STU for urgent surgery and every time staff have been amazing. I have a phobia of needles and am nervous of medical things in general and I’m always treated with empathy and given lots of support like mindless talk and comfort to distract while needles go in and clearly talking me through everything that’s happening so nothing unexpected happens. People in reception are always so nice. Waiting can be long and a bit boring but it is what it is. Never felt embarrassed for being upset or scared and I think they do a good job responding to people’s issues even though it’s busy

I had a bad cycling accident on Sunday during the triathlon and was unconscious for a few mintues. The ambulance crew were fantastic and got me to A and E where I was straight in. All the staff in the hospital were fantastic and I can’t thank them enough for looking after me. Everyone from Porters, Nurses, Doctors they were all brilliant. 10/10 for this NHS service.

Shocking treatment from C52!!! if we could give a lower score than one star we would, my mothers daughter my sister sadly lost her battle with MS and passed away whilst my mother was in the QMC. They informed us she was to be released back to the home around the 28th/29th of June, On the 30th we were informed of a positive covid test via text so they needed to place her in a side room, after repeatedly telling the nursing staff of the upcoming funeral and the need to if at all possible to get her back to the home as the funeral was on 7th leaving at 12.30 pm we find ourselves on the 6th at 9.30pm without any confirmation of whether she is or is not positive after 7 days of isolation. A male nurse tonight informed us in the most un-sympathetic manner they would test again after 10 days (3 days to late) also saying the information I gave him was not on the computer !!! My Mother at this point could not say goodbye to her daughter because nobody else had taken the time to add a note on to the computer!!! We have just spoken to a Senior Nurse Tracy who has been the only one to ring us back and offer some hope, thank goodness Rachael the receptionist answering the telephone on reception had more sympathy and empathy than the nursing staff so far many thanks. We are looking at a system that does not work and reliant on too few staff not the NHS of old. So so disappointed to post this review but this is not the first time in the last few months we have been bitterly disappointed in the treatment of my mother.

Exceptionally, troubling experience of the A&E department. Arrived at 12:30pm and the patient finally got onto the ward at midnight. Throughout this period he had vomited repeatedly and was in agonising pain. Pain relief and anti-sickness drugs were eventually given but not maintained so that he continued to vomit and endure great pain. Constantly had to ask staff for anti-sickness etc. and they promised they’d ‘sort it’ but didn’t and then the shifts changed and you were back to square 1. Promises were given by staff that as soon as the Covid test came back negative he’d be taken onto a ward- it’s was 4 hours after the results were given. The nurses did not want to engage and were surly and uncooperative when enquiries were made. After 2+ plus hours without pain relief, a nurse gave the patient 2 paracetamol to someone who was being repeatedly sick instead of administering it through the cannula. However, there was an amazing nurse who could not bear to see someone so unwell in the waiting room and found him a stretcher and put him on a drip- this was 22:00pm. She showed exceptional compassion, integrity and personally took him to the ward. Sadly, this was the only positive part of this experience.

Came with my friend straight after her miscarriage. Sfter sitting for 10 minutes anyway we got told only one person could wait with her and i had to sit outside the doors on the floor. Even though there were at least 10 seats free. I politely asked the reception if i really had to go out the doors and sit on the floor like a dog, and she said they have to do this during busy periods. I replied it wasnt that busy and there were at least 10 chairs free yet still had to sit on the concrete floor for hours. Appalling

Just simply awful medical service!!! Staff (clinical support workers, nurses, whatever they might be) rude and passive aggressive as anything, lacked every ounce of empathy and compassion, didn't give a flying potato about the importance of their job OR THE PATIENTS!!! Got admitted after a suicide attempt and was just dumped in triage being fed lie after lie after lie about when I'll be seen, what assessments they're doing, how long I'm gonna be there for, kept getting moved from one part of the triage bit to another and then to another! And it wasn't just me, they couldn't give 2 hoots about the other patients either, ignoring them, having no patience with them! The only (and I mean THE ONLY) silver lining in this whole episode was this one nurse who goes by the name Alex who went out of her way to find out what was happening regards my situation and kept checking in on me and other patients whenever she was free not dealing with other things or on a break! (Huge respect to nurse Alex) The other staff couldn't care less they were probably counting the hours till they finish and just gave a horrible vibe with how they were!! Not being funny but how in God's name is QMC still open when this is how it's run!! That is literally my final word!!

My mum has been in QMC for 4 days now after a bad car crash, the staff in the C30 Major Trauma Unit have been great and very caring which is the only reason my review is 3 stars... However if I were to rate the Major Injury Department (similar name, different unit) I would give -100 stars. The staff had absolutely no idea what they were doing, left people in agony for hours and stood around chatting. If there was a hell on earth it would be that department. The lead nurse (blonde lady with glasses) was AWFUL! Absolutely no control over her department, rude as anything and SERIOUSLY needs to consider a career change. Not a compassionate bone in her body. An official complaint has been made regarding this member of staff. She should not be allowed near anybody's family members.

I attended for day surgery on 11th November, but had anxiety concerning the possible effects of the anaesthetic after a previous problem. The anaesthetist and surgeon discussed my concerns with me and were very kind and supportive, despite the fact that I withdrew from the operation. I could not have been treated in a better way and wish to thank all the staff involved for the empathy they showed me.

Was at the queens medical centre recently had good facilities with a Costa, Coop a clothes shop and a Pret. Parking is extremely expensive and drop off is very hit and miss. Toilets are mostly clean but occasionally in a bad condition. Overall good with lots of friendly staff on hand if you get lost and all corridors are clean.

What a dreadful service it has become but not all of it just parts of it are failing . Today I went for a planned operation at ENT . I got to C25 day case ward at 7.30 am and at 16.30 aprox 9 hours later was sent home as theatre had packed up for the day . I sat in a dirty chair for 9 hours , never saw a nurse unless I went to ask to speak to one . Only seen by the NHS staff who take your observations. The chair and area I was put in was not cleaned and there was food down the side of the chair and someone’s stains on the pillow , the water was used by someone too . A lovely girl called Jade was the only credit that day as she took ownership and sorted it all out . The surgeon came to see me and apologised saying he was willing to stay behind but theatre was not , I guess they was tired as very busy . It’s not the staff it’s the process . To be called in and say to wait and left all day to then send home , it shouldn’t happen . The person who took my obs handled the thermometer 🌡️ then stuck it with his hands in my mouth, where had the good training gone and nurses we used to see . Hygiene was gone . I am now left with booked time of work and a planned recovery and have to start again . Just a dreadful day at QMC

Our mum was rushed to hospital after having a seizure during a doctors appointment. The ambulance arrived within 10 minutes and the ambulance staff were extremely professional. It’s only when you require the use of the NHS that you realise how invaluable it is. It’s something that you take for granted. Yes there are delays and it’s at times a high stress environment for everyone involved. We were waiting around 2 hours to be checked in and then waiting for most of the day for various tests and procedures, but everyone at the A&E department was unbelievable. Helpful, kind, calm under pressure. Our mum was really well looked after from start to finish, and throughout the years my own experiences in hospital mirror this one. Incredibly caring and hard working staff who are under immense pressure. Absolute hero’s ❤️

My elderly mother had to have major spine surgery and was in hospital for a week. The Surgeon Mr Khalid Salem was excellent - an 8-hour operation and afterwards she was in no pain at all and this remains the case six weeks later. We are so grateful for all the help and support she received from all who cared for her and can't recommend this hospital highly enough.

My mother was taken in with a bad back (which turned out to be fractured vertebrae). The ambulance guys were brilliant, even though we did have to wait for many hours because they were so stretched. A&E also performed brilliantly until she was assigned to a ward. I'm not going to reduce my rating due to one or two nurses being rather rough with my mother (I reported it and the sister was furious and promised to deal with it), since the vast majority were fantastic. The only issue with QMC is the parking. Don't go in in the morning if you can avoid it - the car parks will be full, and people will park illegally and inconsiderately, as it suits their general lower status in life. Early afternoon onwards and parking is easier. It's best to head for the main car park (No. 3) from Abbey Street, because if you try to drive around the campus, you can guarantee there will be idiots queuing for park No. 1 (even though it is full), and for the Treatment Centre (also full), which creates gridlock. Parking fees are reasonable, and they now have ANPR systems, so paying is easy (you need to type your car registration number, then swipe your card) - but again, be aware of idiots who try to leave without paying (or having paid incorrectly by using the wrong registration number) and who cause blockages at the exit barriers. For information, the barrier raises instantly as you approach if you've paid and the machine has told you 'please proceed to the exit'. If you see someone stop and the barrier stays down, they haven't paid, or have put the wrong registration number into the machine, DON'T go behind them - use the other exit instead. Apart from the parking, in all my dealings with QMC over the years, I cannot fault it.

I was taken here in April 2023 after serious car accident, every single nurse on all three wards I was on were excellent, caring and understanding. Many went above and beyond their call of duty , also many of them get so much abuse some abuse by those not really knowing they are abusing them due to meds some were just horrible people . I will always have the upmost respect for all the staff, they saved my life 3times on one night and for the 1 & half months I was there I felt so looked after . I had some serious nightmares whilst in a coma and the nurses really helped my mental health. So thank you to all at queens. If angels live among us then that’s where you’ll find them . Thanks so much from Andrew Haskins

This hospital caused my child a lot of suffering. The consultants ego was more important to him than caring for my child properly despite other professionals crying out for scans. This resulted in my child needing a very big operation. The staffs assumptions also cause suffering to patient and family.

My husband was blue lighted to QMC yesterday and after so much recent bad press, I want to give the staff some well deserved praise. The ambulance called ahead and we went straight through to the accident and emergency and received prompt attention. The staff were thoughtful and considerate and there was minimal delay with tests and getting results. He is currently waiting for a bed on an acute medical ward but was given a bed in a private cubicle alongside A & E where he monitored regularly and kept comfortable. There was a bit of banter too with the nursing staff that helped to keep his spirits up. On my way out around 11pm, I was horrified at the number of people in the 'minors' area of A & E. Whilst the wait must be horrific, spare a thought for the staff working under that level of pressure day in and day. I am most certainly grateful to them.

Hi my first visit to see my 95 year old mum at Lings bar hospital, I was very nervous about attending after reading negative rates about this hospital.I can confirm and honestly say DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD I’m sorry if this offends anyone The hospitals setting location very nice the staff very friendly and polite the wards are open and light and immaculate xxx Over all I’m very impressed Hope this helps with those nerves for you loved ones Many thanks again to the staff Lyndon
