I took my Dad to COCH A&E yesterday, mid heart attack. We waited in reception for over 10 minutes because there was no receptionist there to even check us in. She eventually strolled in, in no real rush. Meanwhile, my Dad is still mid heart attack. The only reason I am giving 2 stars rather than 1, is because once he was in the resuscitation room, the doctors and nurses were very nice. That said, he was treated as a lower risk heart patient and wasn’t transferred to another hospital for over 7 hours. Turns out he IS an urgent heart patient and now needs a bypass!

If I could put zero , I will . AVOID THIS A&E at all cost. The worst A&E I have been so far. I like to point out I also work for an A&E in another hospital. I am Pregnant at my late stage 2nd trimester , with some serious heart problem, hypertension. I came there for my first time as I am taking my ANT appt at Chester . I was sent by my GP to A&E because of a swollen arm suspecting a blood clot , but after more than 10 hours left sitting waiting area with no attendance , no proper care . As I am writing this review still haven’t seen any doctor and my BP is going up . I haven’t slept for almost a week because my arm hurt so much and I am scared sometimes happen to me while at home ; that’s why I decided to come here . A&E are busy everywhere but they look at priorities while attending cares. I have seen people with less issues been seen much quicker than me . I will certainly update . But AVOID at all cost. It’s UNACCEPTABLE to be left this long unattended in my condition … How can they make you wait over 10-11hrs to see a Dr, it’s absolutely ridiculous, a joke … Edit : finally a Dr attended to me after 12.5 hours , just to tell me to wait again …

went with my daughter for check up strongly advised by my GP, after her name was called I was handed mask, I informed it ( large male nurse) that I am exempt, and was told " well, you have to leave then because we don't want all this in" while drawing unidentified shape in the air with hands , didn't last long to ask what did that mean, because I was getting frustrated but at the same time needed my daughter to be checked as much as I hated being discriminated for my disability. I am aware of how many complaints and medical malpractice cases are going on against this hospital and I can absolutely understand why now . I haven't been in there in years and I am not going back any time soon. I AM giving 2 stars instead of 1 because people on the registration were extremely polite and helpful and so were female nurses who supported my daughter inside. My daughter have rash in the place where blood was taken from , and I will have it check on with my GP as soon as possible. I have watched people seating for hours waiting, orderly lady who was sick a lot, middle age gentleman who was spitting blood after he had loose reality from head injury , and it actually made me not wanna come back there ever again even more.

Has to be the worst A&E in England! Expect upto 12 to 13 hour waiting times if you're unlucky and turn up after 4pm . Expect no cleaning staff cleaning through the night, ram packed waiting room, sick and blood on the toilet floors! Told by reception there isn't many staff over night and very few Doctors so Expect a long long wait. Over crowded A&E and under staffed and very lack of communication. It's a shame on such a beautiful City. Half a star sounds more adequate.

Sitting for more 8hours now in the A&E Countess of Chester Hospital still now results and the reason is because there's a patient who arrived through the ambulance and they need to prioritize that one. I understand that's important, but it's also unfair to people who's been sitting here for hours. Your system is the problem, you need to have 2 different departments for emergency one from the ambulance and one from people who is also NOT FEELING WELL and waited patiently. Broken bone or shot, yes it's life threatening, so what about patients like me with heart problems who can't breathe and having a bad burning feeling throughout the throat and chest?! Is a joke threatening?!!!

I was bit by a dog. Called 111 and they said go to the nearest hospital asap. I have been here for 7 hours now. The bleeding has stopped. Clot. Now i regret the time i have waited. At this point i am not leaving just to see the service inside. But seriously I know people going to emergencies almost never read reviews and then go, but just in case someone does, Don’t come here. If it is not absolutely emergency, don’t come. It is preposterous how long the wait is.

Both my children were born here, my first born had complications upon birth but when the “panic” button was struck…everybody came to our assistance, and I mean EVERYBODY within seconds, it was like a military operation, they saved my daughter’s life. I’m very grateful for the professionalism and compassion displayed by the staff in the early hours of that morning, I truly am…without them my daughter would be dead. My second born was an absolute delight, we turned up and were made to feel very welcome. The staff made us very relaxed and were attentive throughout, timings were perfect and I had the pleasure of cutting the umbilical chord, they didn’t have to do that and that will stick with me for the rest of my life. Personally, I’ve recently sustained an injury and self care was an uncertainty…I turned up at A&E at the Countess of Chester Hospital and was seen by a doctor within one and a half hours, considering the amount of people waiting to be seen I think that’s very efficient…for a very busy A&E department in a city hospital my arrival time to my release time amounted to 3 hours maximum, may I extend my gratitude to all the staff who gave me care beyond what I expected. Just a quick one…if your going to whinge and moan about the NHS/Police/Fire Service…who are the first ones you call when you’re in trouble?…without being too political, do you think the citizens of Ukraine could dial 999 at the moment?…I’m just a local building contractor who appreciates everything the Countess of Chester Hospital has done for me, thank you to all the staff, you save lives

I phoned up an ambulance in regards of sudden chest pain and severe shortness of breath. Sudden dizziness and palpitations. They said it wasn’t going to be available in the next 4hours. I asked my neighbour to take me to A&E. once arrived we were waiting for 4 hours to be seen to get my bloods taken, ECG etc. afterwards, we were asked to wait in the Ambulatory Majors waiting room. Whilst waiting I saw many nurses and doctors chatting away to one another. I kindly asked after another 4 hours of waiting. They responded, “the doctor will be with you shortly”. Then they continued talking to their colleagues with not taking work seriously or professionally. I didn’t feel safe or welcomed at all throughout my health concern. Didn’t get seen until 08:00 in the morning, when I arrived at A&E at 22:00. Very unhappy with countess of Chester hospital. Feel very unsafe at any cost.

I have been having regular appointments with the Audiology Department for over 40 years but more so in the last 3 years since having a Ba Ha hearing device fitted. Having had many problems with the skin around the device being very sore with lots of infections I cannot fault the team the Drs, nurses and the audiology staff have been amazing. I was seen throughout Covid and felt very safe with all the precautions put in place. Yesterday I was fitted with 2 new hearing aids as my hearing levels have dropped considerably. Kim was just amazing and went out of her way to explain everything, a long appointment , but it was calm and relaxed and I was able to take in everything she was explaining to me . Special mention to Kim but well done all at Audiology , and thank you NHS where would we be without you. X

If you have a genuine medical emergency and Countess of Chester is your only hope, I wish you luck. Have just queued 4 hours to have the “triage nurse” ask me the same questions the receptionist did, and then be told Minor Injuries was shut, come back tomorrow and rejoin the queue. Shockingly run.

Had to go to a&e with a broken wrist, staff were all very sympathetic and friendly with despite being rushed off their feet treated you like they had all the time in the world for you, All follow up appointments were all the same and dealt with really quickly and what seemed like no wait, a lot of people were moaning unnecessarily as they could see how busy it was and it seems like they thought they should be in and out in about half an hour! Ridiculous! I would always beach happier to be at the back of a queue in a hospital than the front!!! Thank you to all the nurses, radiographers, doctors and physiotherapists, they are all amazing and under appreciated ❤️

I fractured my fibula in 3 places recently, went to A&E and it was very busy, however the triage in place was working very well. I was seen within 2 hours, they reviewed the x-ray I'd had done at local walk in centre and removed the cumbersome temporary plaster cast I had and gave me a lighter, mobile & weight bearing air boot. They made an appointment at the fracture clinic for an orthopedic specialist to review my injury 2 days later to review if I needed surgery or not. All staff were amazing and I am very grateful for their care.

My mum wastold to ring an Ambulanceby her GP practice, because she was in pain. She was placed in a cubicle and waited 12 hours. She wasn't assessed, being told by nurses there was only one Doctor and he was busy on wards. She's 85 yrs old and she was in real pain and discomfort. She wasn't allowed food because she needed to be assessed. They had no empathy for her at all. After trying on many occasions to find out how much longer her wait would be we had no alternative but to take her home. She was so weak and exhausted. She eventually got a home visit from a paramedic by using 111 services who diagnosed her with Shingles. How can this be missed at A and E ?? So many nurses but all walking around giving alot of excuses. It's basic neglect and total failure Why can a GP not visit a patient at home anymore to assess, there's no duty of care anymore in some of these places.

Went to A&E with my partner yesterday as he injured his arm. The waiting time is long we arrived at 3am and didn’t get seen till about 9:30am. Triage nurse was rude and quite judgemental. Even though he was in a lot of pain she put him as non urgent. They prioritise the paranoid mums with babies. I would recommend going at 8am when the morning doctors turn up. The doctor was amazing however and was very reassuring.

I've been seen by the gynaecology dept since 2017 (I think) and since 2020 I've had one appointment, but I'm not here to complain about that. At that appointment, the nurses could see I was using a walking stick to get around due to my Sciatica. No wheelchair offered, but I'm also not here to complain about that. I'm aware I've had appt after appt cancelled over the last two years, but I also know how bad they've been hit with Covid. I had an ap at the Jubilee centre last year, a single surgeon did like 20 patients basically that morning. I don't know about you, but that would knacker me! The nurses have been amazing, and I actually love being seen by student doctors, because I'm helping them learn as well as them helping me. I don't mind having students see me, that's how we teach new doctors so we can stop having under staffed hospitals! Everybody complaining about wait times is either ignorant to the pandemic (for those complaining over the last two years) or you don't present with major symptoms. Those with serious complaints, fair enough. But don't be throwing medical negligence around when you don't get your paper papercut looked at quick enough when there is somebody who's been shot or stabbed or run over or having an ACTUAL heart attack or stroke.

The gentleman working in a&e reception is excellent and a credit to nhs. Very polite and I saw him go over and above to find a disabled ladies phone lost around the hospital. He found it.

Always found the Countess to be a quality hospital with care to match. I recently had to have a procedure done and the anticipation and anxiety was terrible. I phoned to talk through my anxieties a few weeks before the big day and the nurse I spoke to reassured me and answered all my questions- nothing was too much for her. The nurses on the day were the same: kind, caring and reassuring. The whole thing I needed doing was a doddle in the end, but that is not the point. I would like to thank all who dealt with me so compassionately.

A and E was extremely busy, but nothing was too much trouble. Our soon had a badly broken leg, so waiting time took longer as xrays and scans took place. Staff were amazing and very patient (especially with a frantic mum) The next day we returned for surgery. Again, the staff in the children's ward were amazing. They looked after my son and myself. I can't thank all the staff enough as our whole experience was so looked after. surgery. Again, I cannot fall he staff in the children's ward.

Having been to A&E’s in London and other areas of the UK (which require a 4 hour wait) this one is so fast and efficient in comparison. Was seen in 15 minutes when I had an eye infection. The doctor was thorough and treated me there and then. Everyone was also really friendly here. It makes me proud of the NHS and the taxes we pay.

The worst hospital experience in my life. Family member was bleeding out for 6 hours in A&E on one day. Haven't been examined or checked. Been told to come back in two days time straight to the ward. When was already in bed, doctor came in and send herback to A&E. After 8 hours been put in exactly this same bed on the ward. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. No human factor considered at any point. Nursing staff amazing. Doctor on that shift will be reported definitely.

My daughter had excellent maternity care during her pregnancy when she had to visit the day unit several times with reduced movements and the 2 midwife’s who supported her when she was in labor and gave birth where absolutely outstanding. The 3 stars are for them and would of been 5 however some of the staff on Cestrian Ward when she had to stay in with her son were horrible. They are obviously in the wrong job and showed no compassion at all. Very disappointed and just hope none of their daughters are ever on a maternity ward and are treated like mine was.

Currently 12 hours into waiting with potentially up to another 3 before I see a doctor for a broken ankle. Very poorly run hospital (the worst I’ve experienced) - the senior Ops guys need sacking.

My wife had need of A & E's services last Wednesday. Despite obviously being very busy all staff were friendly, attentive and informative. Even when I got lost any staff I approached were always ready to help. Don't want to repeat the experience but well done and thank you.

Arrived in A&E at 4pm on Saturday 19 June 2021. Eventually left at 12.45 am on Sunday morning. Didn't see a doctor until 11.30 pm. Doctor was great when I eventually saw her! But totally unacceptable wait. Seemed to be short staffed and no sense of time at all. Not sure what happened to 4 hour target!

Only 1 star because i cant give it 0! Been here many times over the years. Quality of care is atrocious. The staff are incompetent from the reception to the doctors. GO TO A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL Use the A & E at your own risk!

Very efficient hospital and great hospital staff, especially nurses who were incredibly nice, caring and cheerful. Not so enthusiastic about first aid which was very slow and not in full function during night swift. Terrific surgery staff.

Fantastic response from the A&E receptionist & triage. I was through triage & waiting for the doctor before husband got back from parking the car. 10 minutes wait for the doctor during the handover period another 10 whilst the doctor found somewhere to clean my cuts, he even made the bed to keep my waiting time to a minimum. Very helpful, clear instructions for my follow-up treatment and everyone friendly throughout my very short visit.

Had to visit as my wife was ill today. Excellent service from reception, triage, doctor and x ray. In and out within 3 hours. No car parking charges for A&E was an added bonus. Thank you C of C.

My father was taken I'll into hospital with breathing difficulties. He was in for over a week and a half and the staff were amazing with him. Hes a lively chap and enjoys keeping the staff on their toes but they were all lovely with him. And the staff in the discharge lounge. Adele and Vickie were fantastic. Going above and beyond to help. They deserve a raise.

I think I had to waited 6 hours in A+E before I was seen. But I must thank both the nurse and the doctor that saw me the next day. They listened to me and proactively found a solution to my problem. (I had stupidly got a sliver of metal in my eye, and I was 300miles away from home) So it is 5 stars from me for their considerate help.

Went to A&E yesterday and it was incredibly busy but we had no choice but to stay. They were all amazing. Professional, extremely skilled, caring and the communication was excellent despite how stressed and pressures did they must have been. And we had a lovely little group in the waiting room! Thanks NHS and staff. xxxx

So it's hour 6 sitting in A and E with my 69 year old mother whos had a fall. No idea when we ll be seen by a doctor. All the lights have just gone out but no one will be sleeping as we have the loudest snorer on earth next to us. The 6 hour ambulance wait was terrible too. Have to say the nurses and paramedics were amazing tho. I.feel.sorry for them
