Stayed overnight. I didn't eat dinner but only because I had already eaten. I wish I hadn't though as the food smelled amazing when I checked in! My room was small but perfect. I was worried it might be noisy but it really wasn't. Check in was friendly, there is an easy to use car reg check in too. Parking was free. Comfortable bed with lovely pillows. Nice toiletries provided too. Breakfast was included in my stay and all I can say is I wish I had a bigger appetite! It was delicious 😋 I had the smashed avacado. Very good service with a smile. I have to stay in this area regularly so I've tried a few hotels nearby, this one had just become my new favourite. Will definitely rebook. Next time I'll bring a bigger appetite! Also lovely walks along the riverside.

Nice decor but that's where the good review ends. Table for 4. Starter sent back as calamari like elastic. One fillet steak not cooked as requested another fillet steak sent back as rare rather than medium. As it's a steakhouse surely they should be getting it right every time !! Very expensive for food and drinks. No chance of returning.

Excellent service and food. All the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. The sticky chicken starter was perfect and the bbq sauce on the ribs and chicken is just lovely. We chose a sharing desert that had a short wait on it but we were told about this when we ordered and were happy to wait a few extra minutes. The ambience was just right, the music wasn’t too loud and the whole place had a friendly feel to it. The air con was a bonus as it was a boiling hot day when we went. We will most definitely return.

Great stay here. Staff were very friendly, room was tidy clean & well appointed, even a nice coffee machine. Breakfast I had the vegan breakfast with I though was great. I did leave the toast, just too much food. The evening meal I had pulled port burger, lush.

Staff were nice enough, not overly friendly, not rude. Place is beautiful and clean. Mains menu is good, definitely something for everyone. If a little pricey, but where isn't these days. I had the chicken and bacon waffle - delicious, well presented. However, it always disappoints me that chain restaurants don't use plant based cream for the desserts, opening all the desserts up for consumption by EVERYONE.

5 of us had lunch there on 30th March and we couldn’t fault it. Excellent food and couldn’t wait to return. We returned today but there was 6 of us. A few of us enjoyed it so much last time we had the same. This time the steak was difficult to cut, the Stilton sauce was thick and not very tasty . Also the vegetables were hard and hardly cooked and the stalks of the cabbage you couldn’t cut or eat! A very disappointing meal. At £40 a head it worked out a real expensive lunch. Obviously it must have been a different chef!! Bring back the other one! Dear Ruth was an excellent waitress and works extremely hard.

Visited this steakhouse sceptically with my wife and my oh my was I blown away? Megan served us. The American Stack Pancake stack I had and the Full English my wife had was perfection ! My only downside was the Black Coffee. am quite fussy to be honest but it tasted a bit watered down and rusty. If you can fix that. It will be perfection. All the same. Excellent service. I will definitely visit again.

Great Wednesday evening out for our sons birthday. Service from Abbi was excellent. Food and drinks went down well. Evening menu is a good deal, 3 courses for 19.99

I visited this Sunday evening with my two children. We didn't have a reservation, but unlike a previous venue, we were given a table. Service was a little slow to kick off, but once we were seen to, our waitress Abigail was warm, charming and thoughtful. The plates that the kids meals came from the kitchen on were very hot, so she organised some cold ones to dish the food onto. She replenished the water when needed, and engaged with the children with a smile. The food was good, although I did not sample the steak on this visit. The kids cleared their plates, and the Calamari I ordered was a fair portion and was delicious. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to others. Another thank you to Abigail for making us feel at home.

Went Sunday lunchtime with my 2 grown up sons for steak. Given the price was £30-odd per meal I was expecting good things. I had a ribeye, asked for medium-rare, it came practically black and blue verging on raw. Not even anywhere near rare. It was tough, and had lots of silverskin sinew. My sons like theirs rare so they enjoyed it, but I was expecting much better. We did eat everything though. Service was decent. I think they need to adjust their prices down given the quality of the steak.

I needed a room to break up a journey to a course meaning I would be arriving incredibly late. The lady I spoke to was incredibly helpful when she called to discuss my late arrival and arranged breakfast to be available in the room as I would be leaving early the next day. The room was immaculate and incredibly spacious! Super comfy bed quiet and had all the things I needed for breakfast the following day.

Had a great breakfast here for 6 people. Full English and coffee each and under £90. We'll cooked and friendly staff. Definitely not a greasy spoon type breakfast but tasty. Poached eggs were perfect.

We were well looked after and catered for during our two night stay at Harper's. Following a request for a dog friendly room, manager, Steve, called to verify what supplies we required in our room prior to our arrival. We were pleased to find a dog bowl, dog bed, and treats for our girl waiting in our room upon our arrival. It was a lovely touch. The rooms are just like the photos featured by the hotel - newly refurbished, well turned out, fashionably designed rooms, with modern in-rooms features and facilities. Customer service throughout the business was faultless, and our restaurant waitress Hope was fantastic - pleasant, attentive, and friendly. Food in the restaurant was spot on. We ate here for breakfast and dinner. Tip: Vegetarians will love the Sunday nut roast - ordered by my partner. I'm a meat eater, and I'd have happily ordered that over a traditional meat roast, it was that good. Tip: If you're checking in late, be sure to inform the hotel, as there is no overnight check-in service, and check-in closes when the restaurant closes (23:00, I believe). Harper's is the perfect location for those wishing to stay prior to a cruise from Southampton (19 min drive), and those wishing to enjoy Goodwood events (42 min drive). I'd be more than happy to stay here again.

Came here for our 2 year anniversary last night for dinner and couldn't fault it. The food was incredible, me and my partner had the 7oz bistro rump steak and it was lovely and cooked to perfection. We arrived early and got to sit down straight away after being welcomed with a smiling face. The service was absolutely great, our server Heidi went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant evening. Will definitely be coming back here in the future and would definitely recommend it to anyone who asks for a great steakhouse.

Came for a meal, food was nice, very quick. Had a waitress called Heidi who was really polite and friendly. Even came to let us know our food was ready when we was outside. Thanks Heidi

Lovely meal. Steaks cooked just how we liked them. Service was top notch, especially from the waiter named Driton who noticed that our garlic bread was over cooked so knocked it off the bill before we had even said anything. Will definitely be back in the near future.

It was okay... I know it's a steakhouse but the menu was just too much 'brown food' for my liking. Pleasent enough inside but nothing to shout about. Actually preferred it when it was called the Spinnaker, it seemed to have a much more fun atmosphere then.

It was ok, but expected better. Similar price to Miller & Carter, but the steaks are nowhere near as good here. The ribeye was actually quite chewy, disappointing. The mac and cheese was also a bit bland. Was really looking forward to the Philly cheese steak, but that was underwhelming. We did finish our meals, but were a bit gutted with what we had. £6.20 for a pint as well......ouch. The staff were great! Very attentive and friendly. They would get 5 stars! Unfortunately, the food only gets 3.

Spent this weekend at harpers steakhouse with my father. Our room was very tidy and clean, beds were very comfy and we both slept very well. The food was amazing. I a steak the first night and I had to call my partner back home to tell that this was by far the best steak I've ever had. The full English we had for our breakfast was also amazing. The staff was super friendly and would do the upmost to make you welcome and to give the amazing stay. The waitress we had on the first night (Ruby) was very professional but also very friendly and made us feel very welcome and fully deserved her tip at the end of the night. Overall the next time we visit Southampton again we will be booking our stay here again. Thank you all.

Went there for breakfast, and extremely satisfied with the quality of food offered. Everything was properly cooked, and nothing to complain about at all. Good service, too. Will definitely return for more of the same!

Went for dinner for friends birthday, food was very tasty and well presented and Drifton was friendly and attentive, will definitely return. Instructions for entering car registration for 4 hours free parking was very clear and pub was clean with staff cleaning fixtures in between serving.

We visited on a Wednesday night and Driton was our server. We had a lovely evening, the service was fantastic I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more. The food was delicious, service was incredible and location was perfect. Thank you.

It's OK. There are better places cheap close by. The drinks are on the high end. But personally not needed. The food is silly priced also. I'd want so much more for the cost look around for food.

My steak was great: juicy, tasty, properly cooked. However my husband was not so happy with his Sunday roast trio - chicken was boiled not roasted and pork had more fat than meat. Staff were really polite, friendly and nice, however forgot to exclude a soup from the order and the final bill. Nevertheless, the place is good and we will visit again for sure.

Steve the Manager Including his entire team which includes Elisha and Amy gave us a fabulous meal experience. Every attention to detail and I've eaten here breakfast lunch and dinner. The service is excellent during every sitting. The ambience gives the comfort of a homely pub and yet Incorporated in there is a gastro pub. Superb!

Very nice restaurant and polite friendly staff. Full English Breakfast was lovely, best I've had in a long time and the prices are very reasonable. I would certainly recommend a visit. Service was a bit slow on this visit but for us that wasn't a problem.
