    Best gym in the area for men & woman.. Staff are outstanding and very good rates for personal training. No frills just results.. My husband & I are very happy we have found this place. The new owner James is an expert in body building, weight loss, nutrition & Physio & is an athlete himself. Hes team are all fully trained to high standard under he's watchful eye.. don't waste your time with fads like crossfit that cause injuries, These guys stick to training that is injury free!

    Love this place. Old school vibe, friendly members. Dedicated owner. James will tailor a training programme for you based on your own goals. I actually look forward to gym, which for a basically lazy older guy is an achievement.

    I’ve been training at riverside gym for 18 months now. I have used commercial gyms in past and dabbled in different sports but wish I’d discovered riverside years ago. James the owner is incredible he prepares a tailor made exercise program which is updated weekly and he is there for you whenever you need him. His knowledge, passion and attention to detail is 5 star ⭐️. Riverside is a strength and conditioning gym, I’m in my late 40s and probably fitter than I’ve ever been. Couldn’t recommend more

    A great modern gym with an old school vibe to it. A very friendly and supportive atmosphere. Whether you want to improve your cardio , strength , muscle gain or just overall fitness James has the perfect blend of experience and qualification to plan a workout to suit all your needs. Since working with James my strength and fitness has increased dramatically and I couldn't be more pleased with the results so far

    James has been a great support as I've been through a couple of waves of rehab after hip surgery. The right combination of guidance and structure to make sure that you keep doing the exercise to make progress towards whatever goal you have. In my case, aiming to get back on the ski slopes...

    I’ve been a member of the gym for 6 months and I’ve been astounded by how much progress I’ve made so quickly. Having a long-standing back injury, I avoided weights for fear of doing more harm than good.But after a chat with James and a thorough assessment, I was reassured that I’d have the support of someone who really understands muscle physiology. By following James’ tailored programme each week, I’m far stronger and my back feels so much more stable. James is a patient and supportive coach, and the gym is superbly equipped and welcoming.

    I have worked with James at the Riverside Gym now for over a year and it has been a great journey. I have learnt a lot about my technique and managing my fatigue. The personal plans and progression has been excellent and perfectly aligned with my original goals. I would highly recommend signing up.

    The decision to walk through the doors here was one of the best I ever made. In the four years I have been training at Riverside Gym every single metric of health and fitness has improved (and I see it in my weekly targets). Strength, fitness and confidence have all increased, fat has fallen off and the effects of ageing have been rolled back. Strength training is now part of my life and if you'd known me before you'd realise how untypical this was of the old me. The regular sessions are now the highlight of my week and something to which I look forward. If you dread exercise, give this place a go; James and his team will change your mind and the way you see yourself.

    I’ve been going to Riverside gym for around 2 years now. It’s a great gym enough equipment and stations to use. Great trainers who take their time to show you how to develop your skills. Still got to master pull ups and now learning how to do Olympic lifting!

    Have been a member for over 2 years now and has been a fantastic find. Local gym with James the owner very much involved in your own personal journey and needs, he is a great guy and always there to support. Nice clientele, friendly and supportive culture. Highly recommend.

    Fantastic gym - I've been training here for a few years, starting as an absolute beginner to resistance training and the progress I've made under James' guidance has been profound. There's a great supportive culture with other members too. Highly recommend.

    I met James at the end of the first lockdown - 100kgs in weight, the most unfit I'd ever been (and recently started smoking again) and a complete novice with regards to weight training. I can quite honestly say that he completely changed my outlook to how I had been living my life. His approach to coaching is second to none and helped slowly turn weight training into a way of life for me - as well as all of the secondary benefits that come with it (diet, alcohol intake and a quick stop to the smoking!). It was this 360 approach to his methods that makes him one of the best - and someone I would recommend to anyone. Within a year my body had completely changed - not only losing 20kgs of fat but putting on muscle. The back pains also disappeared as we steadily & tactically worked on my core - a problem I'd suffered from for the previous 5 years. And our sessions never seemed like a chore but the complete opposite - something I looked forward to every time. And continue to do so. He's helped make this a way of life and I'll be forever thankful to him. I'd strongly recommend James to anyone. And the gym itself is just awesome!

    A fantastic gym with a great community. I have trained for 10 years across the country and this is one of the best strength and conditioning gyms I have been a member of. James has made the most of the space, with multiple squat racks/deadlift platforms (and the various bars to go with them), free weights, a few machines, and some cardio machines. Furthermore, the expert tailored programming by James catalyses achieving my goals, and he has an attention-to-detail and level of knowledge I have only seen at the top-level of sports. Whilst I would call Riverside a strength and conditioning gym, I have seen James’ coaching ability and approach facilitate all levels of training and for me, it is worth the price.

    Have been a member here for a few years, having never trained before. A great place to work out whether a newbie (as I was) or a veteran, with a supportive atmosphere created by James and the clientele. James will work with you to create a tailored programme specific to your needs and goals, ensuring it is realistic while still giving a sense of progress and achievement. More than other coaches, he also places a level of focus on the mental side of training, and the importance of one’s headspace on performance. All in all, the gym (and James) provide an excellent, holistic solution to training that keeps motivation high, and drives real progress.

    Before joining Riverside Gym my experience was limited to a handful of PT sessions at a commercial gym. Working with James has revolutionised the way I train and I’m easily in the best shape I’ve ever been. Lifting has become a passion and something I can see myself doing long-term, which I never thought would be the case!

    I have been a member since 2014. If you want to take your training and your own personal goals seriously, this is the place. James (the owner) will help and guide you, provided you know what you want to achieve. James will tailor a training programme for you based on your own goals. James and other members of this gym are very friendly. My overall strength, physique and technique have improved dramatically since training with James.

    My wife Elizabeth and I have been members of Riverside Gym since 2008 and have always appreciated that the gym being small and not part of a chain can cater for us as individuals enabling us to get the maximum benefits whilst maintaining a flexible approach. James has a policy of gradual updating and improvement which we also like.

    This gym is excellent - 3 olympic weightlifting stations, full free weights suite and cardio machines. Key fob access is brilliant. James and team REALLY know their stuff. Friendly and welcoming. Simply brilliant, thank you James!

    We unfortunately only discovered Riverside Gym towards the end of our stay in the UK. James McKie sparked interest and life back into my training routine and I am most grateful for all the training advice and support. Both my teen-age sons also trained with James and have found the interaction and learning from James most valuable and a lot of fun. A professional and personalised service all in one and recommended without hesitation. Thank you James.

    After training at a commercial gym a bit further away, I decided to give Riverside Gym a go and I haven't looked back. The gym owner and members were very welcoming and it's got the community feel that's lacking in chain / commercial gyms. Since training with James, my overall strength and technique have improved dramatically. James' knowledge and passion made training engaging and enjoyable but also challenging. I couldn’t recommend him or the gym more highly.

    I’ve just moved back to the area, and was pleasantly surprised to find this gym. I made an enquiry, and James was very informative and welcoming. I train mostly for strength and prefer a less commercial environment to train in, so Riverside is perfect for me. It’s got all the equipment I need including lots of strength equipment and platforms, and a great community atmosphere.

    A great little gym in a great location. All the equipment you will need and good systems of booking so there is always space. James, the gym owner, was very welcoming and informative, and if he was in at the same time would always come and give me some advice on lifting form or technique, which was very useful. I come from a high performance background in rowing, and so know a lot of the basics and safety, and it was great to be able to train in an environment where this was trusted and understood. During the lockdown periods in 2020/2021, James devised short training programmes for members to maintain fitness as well. Overall, a great gym. Wish I was not moving away!
