A unique historical institution functioning as a large retirement compound for British Army veterans. Retaining impressive buildings, chapel and interiors attributed to Christopher Wren and the recent Margaret Thatcher Infirmary among the aggregate. But it’s the spritely pensioners, traditions and ceremonies in situ that are the main attraction here.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is home to 300 army veterans who are all single and have no living dependants. All army pensions were paid from here between 1692 to 1955 hence " Chelsea Pensioners".

This establishment just warms your heart, knowing that the Chelsea pensioners are cared for so well. The grounds are impeccable. You are able to take a walking tour around much of the grounds & some of the buildings, including the chapel & the great Hall. There is a museum that is definitely worth your time & Cafe within the grounds.

I went to Royal Hospital Chelsea two years ago before my departure to this gloomy country. Lots of great collections in their museums and they even save an old pensioners quarter in the early 20 century for exhibition, what a great collection. I was privileged to have a small chat with one of the veterans living in there and I really appreciated their scarified for the country. Two years later, I saw them at V&A week ago enjoying the museum. I sincerely hope them having the best of the living without the disturbance of the COVID-19. All the best lads!

We went to the concerts at the Chelsea Pensioners. What a great location! We went to the concert of the Gipsy Kings. It was amazing. At the grounds of the festival, there were food and beverage stands, so you could eat and drink before, during and afterwards. Don't try to make it by car... Impossible. We used the tube and had to walk a few minutes. Awesome!

Spectacular surroundings of architecture by Wren and Soane. A sculpture of King Charles II by Grinling Gibbons in the Figure Court. The Wren Chappel is most certainly worth a visit. The carvings below the half dome is by William Emmett, Master Carver before Grinling Gibbons and William Morgan. There are a two beautifully made chairs of oak and a beautiful murial in the half dome. The Dining Hall holds a fine row of paintings of royal benefactors. Including Queen Anne. Nell Gwynne is also mentioned as a benefactor. The museum building, built by John Soane, holds a model of the Royal Hospital as it looked at an earlier date.
