Good care by the doctors but honestly I’ve never encountered such rude and unsympathetic reception staff. Every time I call I have extreme anxiety and I have to fight to talk to a doctor or get a prescription. Every little thing is too much for them. No one enjoys a trip/calling the doctors so it would be nice to be greeted with a friendly reception.

I always had great experiences with the GP but one of the receptionists caused me to have a panic attack and cry by treating me so poorly when I went to collect blood test forms. I had been asked by my GP to go to the surgery to collect them and I waited for 20 minutes whilst the receptionist ignored me and was on her computer. Eventually, she shouted over and asked why I was there because I shouldn’t be there. I said you’re open, it’s 10am and the doctor called and told me to come in for blood forms. She told me the forms weren’t there - without looking. I said no I’ve just been asked to come in so she makes me go outside and wait and locks me out. She then opens the door a crack and pushes through the form with a completely different name on. When I tell her that’s not me she says yeah it is, as if I don’t know my own name? I have generalised anxiety disorder and find it hard enough going out - especially at this time with covid, I was prescribed beta blockers on top of my anti anxiety meds because I was so anxious. Finally she gave me the correct form after having a go at me and I’m stood there crying. They also sent me to another doctors for the blood tests, but when I got there I was told they stopped doing them 6 months ago so after all that I couldn’t even have the test. I’m not a confrontational person and I definitely didn’t break any rules going to the surgery. I’m super anxious so would not have gone unless I was told to and double checked that I was allowed to with covid rules. This was probably around May 2020. I have since left the practice as I was too afraid to go back after that so when I wasn’t well I would just avoid the doctors knowing I’d have to call the receptionists

This has to be the best experience I have had of the medical kind . I had a underlying illness which had been ignored or undetected in other surgerys but after my first visit to dr Chatwin he did some tests sent them off and now I'm on the road to recovery ! He could possibly have saved my life , this is the best doctors I've ever been to

Such a friendly and professional GP Practice. Nothing is too much trouble for the reception staff and the GPs are great. There is a Prescribing Nurse working at the Practice and she is excellent, just as good as seeing a doctor. Even when they are fully booked I have always been able to arrange a telephone call with Dr or Nurse. A credit to the NHS.

My father is 85 and has been with this surgery his entire life. I can not fault this surgery, during covid always could get an appointment, personalised care and great follow up. I have always managed to speak with a clinician even when I have called mid morning. The reception and admin team are friendly and helpfully. Nursing team show dedication and pharmacist is a real asset to the running of the surgery. This surgery shows the NHS at its very best.

Excellent health centre. Having recently moved to the area, I needed to find a new GP practice and was worried because I've had some bad experiences in the past. However, the female GP I see is fantastic: very professional, willing to listen and - most importantly - caring. The reception staff have been helpful whenever I've had any issues and have gone out of their way to resolve problems. It can be a bit difficult to get appointments to see a GP but the nurse practitioner is very good and you can usually get appointments for the same day. I would definitely not hesitate in recommending this practice.

The staff are friendly and the doctors / nurse prescriber are always super-helpful and know absolutely everything. In a busy practice like this it's the customer service that can set it apart. They have good systems and if you really need to see someone they will bend over backwards to get you a good appointment. The staff are always happy to help out and get you what you need. I like coming here and trust them to look after me. :-)

Would like say I moved my doctors from wirral as service wasn't good. So moved to St James Heath centre on recondition from friend. My first appointment was professional and the service was great and people that worked there was polite and cheerful...... I didn't wait long to get appointment and was seen by Dr Chapman and he was professional and cheerful would recommend him and his colleagues to anyone and my family friends.

Absolutely disgusting service from Janice or Janet, whatever her name is..from reception! Called to check test results for my son and she fobbed me off.. Also had to deal with one of the gp's in there who also was quick enough to fobb me off, considering I was worried for my baby's situation.. Nothing to do with the subject whilst talking to the gp about it and he recommended gaviscon baby?! Absolutely disgusting!

The "gate keeper" nurse stops you from talking to a GP and clearly isn't qualified to be making such decisions. It's only a matter of time before a life is lost. [edit] the response from the surgery strongly denies their being a gatekeeper and then explains the role of the nurse as a gatekeeper 😅

Has to be the worst gp surgery I have encountered. Called to make an appointment for my child’s immunisations on 4 occasions to be told that they were unable to make an appointment because the doctor was off and then the nurse was off, so no one was able to give them. To call back in 2 weeks time and they may have an appointment then. At which point my child would be nearly 10 weeks old and not had her 6/8 week check up and immunisations due to this abysmal service. I then received a letter from the surgery asking for me to make an appointment to book the immunisations for me to call and be told that again I am unable to make an appointment!! The receptionist was completely disinterested and offered no help other than ‘maybe contact the health visitor and go somewhere else’. Absolutely appalling service!!

Friendly staff combined with efficient organisation. Other health centres around the country need to look at St James as a leading example.

I have booked a consultation online and doctor called me just a few hours later (I thought as they are very busy that it will take a few days). I was prescribed antibiotic and the doctor sent the prescription to the pharmacy near me. Very convenient and quick! Thank you!

Never had the best experience with this doctors. I have been registered with this doctors for many years and never needed to use their services much. However since recently needing a doctors note for work, it took 3 days for them to send it over, and many phone calls from myself asking why i still hadnt received the doctors note yet to provide to my employer. The receptionsist answering calls never seem to sound happy, and never seem to have any good customer service. Also my partner orders his perscription every couple of months for the past 2 years and it is always sent over the the pharmacy late, leaving my partner without tablets for days. I am currently in the process of searching for a new doctors as this one i have never had a pleasant experience with them.

I get an excellent service from St James - always easy to get an appointment, doctors listen to me, and my overall health is routinely monitored, with blood tests, flu jabs, asthma clinic etc, and helpful reminders by text and email. I qualified this in my original 3* review by noting that "my daughter has struggled to get the attention and diagnosis she needs and has never been offered a blood test, despite having a chronic condition. She thinks that young people are not treated the same way as older people." But she has recently got more effective attention, too.

I saw Nurse Donna Price for my appointment this afternoon and cannot praise her highly enough! What is usually an uncomfortable and often painful test was quick and easy and genuinely left me a little speechless at how straightforward it went considering my previous experiences at other surgeries. Incredible lady!

I had a telephone consultation with the chemist from the practice. I asked her to ask the doctor for a prescription item. Never even had the decency to get back to me. No wonder people feel isolated from the NHS these days. It's doctor Google for me from now on.

You need to call at 8am to get an appointment on the day otherwise you won't get an appointment. Most of the times I was unable to get through and they say I will have to call the following day. I realised that I needed to queue up when they open at 8am and I was given an appointment straightaway with my own GP. Terrible system. It is not easy to see your own GP unless you want to see other locum doctors or nurses which can be booked on Patient Access.

The customer service level of reception is appalling. In an empty waiting room you'll be ignored and if you do inquire, you'll be talked over. The doctors were fine though.

I found the medical staff to be mostly helpful, however the reception staff can be abrupt. Also it says opens at 8am but twice I've called at 8 and been told the surgery doesn't open until 8:30. Always seen promptly however and been able to get same day appointments when required

One of the worst in Liverpool, doctors are fairly good. The reception is the problem, very unwelcoming, rude and much attitude towards the patient. Very very very Unorganised. Never have I complained about something "online", but it's worth publishing.. very dissatisfied.

They should be renamed the st james practice of malpractice. They give you medication to make you more sick and refuse to send you to further investigations even if the problem you have had has occurred for 3 years. Never in 3 years of having a congestion, highly visible inflammation on my forehead in the sinus area, extreme fatigue that hasnt allowed me to function or work and kept me bed ridden up to 20 hours a day, never they have sent me to a ct scan or mri, same symptoms affecting the ears, sinuses and eyes every time, I came with the same symptoms yet the doctors would gaslight me and say they aren't related even if they would co occur and regress together along with the congestion everytime as the congestion was never treated properly.

wasting my time. I made an econsult because my condition wasn't bad enough for an in person visit. Was emailed back saying to make an appointment so i assumed it was worse than i originally thought. I work nights so visiting can be difficult for me. So after a long nightshift i stay awake to ring at 8am and get an appointment for 8:45am. Once i make it there im told i dont need to be there as what i need is over the counter!!! Not only wasting my time but im also taking an appointment from someone who needed it more making me feel awful for wasting valuable nhs time!!! i recommend making sure your econsults are taken more seriously to stop this from happening again. The staff are always great and are not at fault but this experience really wasnt great.

Obviously staff posting reviews. Has to be worst surgery around. Receptionist breaks data protection at every opportunity. Talk to patients like dirt. Only locums show any sign of decency. Not fit for purpose surgery. A lot changes in a year according to previous reviews certainly not for the better though with this surgery.

Called today (14/11/2023), at 17:36 to request explanation about an emergency inhaler that I need and didn’t get. Tried getting an asap appointment due to the circumstance. Was told would have to ring to book an appointment and would be for next Monday. I automatically asked if I could book it now whilst on the phone. The lady on the other side of the line then said yes. Which made me confused like. Requested clarification and the lady was rude to me when what she said didn’t make much sense to me and I asked to clarify. So calling today- no availability. Only for Monday. Calling tomorrow, I’ll have availability… no better explanation was given than this. Very difficult to talk with someone who should be there to help. It’s a person’s health after all. Very bad service, have to say. Here I am whiteout the emergency inhaler that I need and without a clear plausible explanation about setting an appointment to get one.. Hoping it’s one off.

It seems that to get a job as the reception staff here you must have a degree in being rude and unfriendly! They are not welcoming and when they have messed up, they don’t apologise. I took time off work to go to an appointment and when I got there I was told it had been cancelled because the nurse had phoned in 3 days prior to say she wouldn’t be in that week. When I asked why they didn’t call me, they just shrugged and said ‘my number wasn’t on file’.

Over 3 generations of my family have all used this practice with no issues, however due to the poor service and the odd rude receptionists, we have all left, and are using a different surgery! All other staff and doctors are lovely! Its a shame they've let one or two bad eggs ruin the whole bunch! Need a letter from God to get through Jane the receptionist before your even considered for an appointment, lives could be lost its disgusting & outrageous.. Needs to be sorted it immediately!!!!

Reading through some of the reviews I am somewhat shocked! After transferring from another surgery who had the same booking method I feel this is same all round, unless people would rather 30 reception staff to answer calls I don’t understand why people would complain about something out of surgeries hands. Furthermore I can honestly say this practice have been extremely helpful especially with the current issues with covid. Can’t praise them enough.

The service is fine but in order to make an appointment you have to call at 8am. This is completely ridiculous to expect of people. And the glass on the counter means you basically have to yell your medical business to the person at the desk and the whole waiting room hears you. It's kind of a mess.
