I popped in here on Saturday for some breakfast with my mum as we were getting the bus to Stratford and we were half an hour early. I live in Kings Heath so hadn’t been here before. I LOVE this cafe! Quite possibly my favourite cafe now. The decor has a Scandinavian/Christmassy feel. It was really warm and welcoming and the chairs are really comfy. I had scrambled egg with bacon on rye bread (well I think it was rye bread) and it was delicious! I also had a cappuccino and that was really good too. Looking forward to going back to try something from the lunchtime menu.

Came in for the schnitzel, and was not disappointed. Food came out fresh and fast, even for our group of five. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great German lunch.

Food quality was awful. And very poor value for money. Paid £7 to be given a single sausage on a plate and a bread roll. The quality of both was poor. Then my wife’s curry wurst was no more than a plate of cheap tomato sauce with curry powder sprinkled on. I’m very much doubting the owners are German or German cuisine trained. The chips ended up being a lump moulded together, as in lift one and you lift your whole portion. When we first went in we were told a 45 min wait on food. When we said we didn’t have the time and left they ran after us and said actually it’s a 10 min wait. Dirty child seat, dirty table, chipped coffee glass. Overall poor service, poor hygiene, poor food, bad prices. Would not return. And I recommend you don’t waste your time and money trying it. This is one to avoid.

Lovely. I live locally and have passed this place hundreds of times. Finally popped in this morning. Had a bacon and sausage sandwich, which was really nice. Served by a very pleasant gentleman, who was also preparing all food for customers in the cafe as well as delivery orders. He seemed to be coping very well. There's a good selection of food on the menu, so I will definitely be back. It's very nice inside, with comfy seats, all very clean, and very calm too. Tony Bennett, Arethra Franklin and Billy Paul being played quietly in the background, just loud enough to enjoy but not loud enough to be a distraction. Genuinely a very nice place.

Very delicious! My husband had currywurst and I had weinerschnitzel with sauerkraut. So delicious! My husband was so excited to have the currywurst. The chips were nice and crunchy on the outside. It's a very cute little restaurant too! The server was very nice and smiled the whole time. I highly suggest a visit!!!

I still remember coming to this little place when it first opened many moons ago. The people were as lovely as I remember them to be and the food was spot on. The schnitzel was perfectly done and the chips were golden and crispy. The bratwurst roll was also amazing and a perfect afternoon snack. If you’re ever in the area, highly recommend checking out this hidden gem and give our local businesses a bit of extra support.

I tend to get the same dish on each visit, but for a good reason! The Jägerschnitzel is very authentic and tasty.

Let me quote my gf after we sat in the car "wow, this was the best food" and she's the more fussy one. We had schnitzel with mushroom sauce and it was amazing. Only two members of staff on busy day, every table full plus delivery drivers picking meals every 10-15min, frankly we were surprised how well the waitress and the lady in the kitchen served so many people , with clean tables, timely service and fresh food. We drove from banbury , I wish we had a place like this here. Anyways, we will be back.

Only popped in for a coffee but found it to be a hidden gem! Who knew that on the busy Shirley High St a calm oasis existed. Situated next to the big pet shop its well worth a visit

Came here for lunch when passing through from having a weekend away. The cafe itself is a nice vibe, dogs allowed in, and there’s outdoor seating. I ordered the pork sandwich, don’t get me wrong it was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had taste wise but the portions are way to small for what you pay. £24 for two nesquick milkshakes which were half filled in a glass and two sandwiches. If the portions of the sandwich was slighter bigger than I wouldn’t of minded paying the price I did but for that reason we probably won’t be returning :(. The sandwiches where literally cut into 4 small slices, Not much filling in them at all.

First time coming to the German cafe and it was a lovely experience. So warm and welcoming and our meals took us right back to Germany. Very hearty & flavourful. We can't wait to come back. Dankeschön :)

This is an absolute gem of a place! We came here for lunch on a whim and have now been back several times. Menu is well thought out and balanced, food quality is excellent (made fresh and it really shows), prices are reasonable and the service standard is friendly and professional. Our experience has been consistently good. If you're looking for a hearty meal in a surprisingly chilled environment, with pleasant staff, then this is definitely worth a go. Takeaway breakfast also travelled surprisingly well (4 miles for us)!

I've been meaning to try this place for a while, and to be fair the food was really nice. I really enjoyed the currywurst in the spicy sauce. The chips were thick and crunchy too. For me the bit that detracted slightly was the portion size of sausage, as a main dish, I would have liked more.

Fantastic food you can see the cook takes pride in their food and presentation. Mushroom sauce I had to try it on the side, it was a great compliment. Nice glass of wine and they had chilli sauce tooooooo.

As a local Postie Ive been walking past this place up to 6 days a week for over 2 decades, I finally ate here 15/1/23 with a friend and wasn't disappointed. The premises is cosy and clean, staff very helpful and friendly without being too "full on" and the food was excellent too. Plenty of choice, veggie options and authentic dishes very well presented, I had a schnitzel and ate every last bit. Will definitely visit again

The vibe of the place was really cosy with blankets and cushions that really gave a warmth to the place. The food was delicious and the ingredients were top quality. I enjoyed every bite, and it felt like the place was Run by people who really put their love and care into what they do.

The German Cafe is like Weihnachten to Cafe Shirley's Christmas i.e. they are one and the same. There is definitely a Christmassy feel to The German Cafe. The outdoor seating looks so comfy, draped in false animal skins. Inside the theme continues. There is a range of false animal busts hung upon the wall, which I thought was humorous. There is a family feel to operations in this cute cafe. Two senior staff are in charge. They organise food preparation with front of house with German like efficiency. Order delivery was as smooth as an A-class Mercedes. A comfortable experience. If you're after a breakfast, brunch experience with a German angle on food offerings. Give The German Cafe a try.
