Great place to go open water swimming. We usually go on a Saturday morning. There is a great atmosphere, lots of parking and all the staff make you feel very welcome. When you first go you must complete a swimming test, just to make sure you are competent to go round the whole lake. There are two loops a big one and a small one. If you aren't swimming or going with a swimmer you can also walk / run all the way round the lake which is just over a kilometer. Facilities there also include a Zoggs store where you will find all your swimming needs and a coffee stand. A great place to visit if you are near the Shepperton area.

I have been coming here for years now. It is a beautiful spot and well looked after, the water is much better than other places that I have swam at. The team have been there for years and give it a really friendly feel to the place. Even with the lockdown issue they are running a great show.

Echoing previous comments- the team make the onboarding process smooth for new joiners, a huge thank you for that! And, a beautiful swimming lake- a match made in heaven! For any hungry swimmers (or spectators) there’s a coffee/ burger bun van also! Worth noting you’ll need to bring, or buy there, a colourful hat and towfloat for safety!

What a gem! I had my first open water swimming experience yesterday and I could have not picked a better place. Shepperton is a GREAT place. Wonderful atmosphere, nice people all around, helpful and always watching to make sure everybody is safe and having a great time. Open water swimming is an exhilarating experience, let yourself go to Shepperton and enjoy.

Just excellent. Service and staff couldn’t do more. The vibe is just so positive there. The lake, course and safety support is amazing. Great to see the addition of a coffee place since I last swam here a few years ago. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful lake and wonderful people, water is clean and fresh. There is a little beach for entry and a small food and drink stall. Toilets and small changing room are available indoors and there is an out door shower to rinse off.

Really well run open water swim. Safety standards are very high and tow floats obligatory unless you wear a wet suit. Friendly, efficient staff, lovely location and very sociable swimmers. So glad to have discovered it. Oh, and the bacon rolls and coffee...a tasty reward after a good swim!

The most amazing swimming lake with a 'spot on' 750m loop. Lake is stunning and weed free. Current Covid19 access is very good and still not too expensive at £6 (2020 summer)

I only started swimming here mid Summer 2018 and I love it. The volunteers are really warming, it's a beautiful and friendly place, and it really doesn't matter if you're not a competitive swimmer. I also love running the loop around the lake, it's a great spot. Remember it's £5 cash only! Good tea / sandwich / cake tuck shop too for after if you need something.

Lovely swimming experience and the reception desk are great and really friendly but don’t rent a tow float from the outlet shop! They didn’t tell me before renting how much it cost despite me asking and when I went to return it was charged £5 for less than an hours use. When I suggested this was costly the response from staff left a bad taste and was quite rude. Open water swimming is great because it’s accessible and affordable - really felt like this went against the ethos of the sport.

I had my induction last night and first swim at the Shepperton Open Water. I absolutely loved it. The team is very friendly and I was impressed with the professionalism of the entire process & the way everything is set up. My first swim was invigorating and beautiful. On my way back to the car a fellow swimmer told me that he has been swimming in lakes all over the world and Shepperton is the cleanest one, we both agreed it is just amazing!

Exhilarating. Wow. The team made it so easy to book for 1st timers, just call book your induction (make sure you are a good swimmer) then off you go you must have a swim hat brightly coloured so you can be seen by the Marshall's in canoe's, if you don't have 1 you can get 1 there. You now also need a tow float if you are a swimmer that does not use a wetsuit. They have to courses a 750m which is indicated by yellow buoys, and a 450 m course which is the red buoys. The water feels much denser than a swimming pool but it also helps you float. The lake is surrounded by beautiful views and wildlife. I am definitely doing it again. Just magnificent.

Welcoming, positive and helpful staff. Good C-19 protocols in place and v sde with kyak-bound staff on the lake. Beautiful surroundings - it's the perfect place to start or develop your experience of outdoor swimming.

I had a great first swim and will be returning - it was a shame that the lady who was put on the table for new swimmers to sign up was extremely rude!

Shepperton easily surpassed my expectations, friends and colleagues recommended me this place and spoke highly of it, and they were absolutely right. I will be going down there more often. 5 stars well earned.

Amazing place to swim! Staff are very informative and friendly. The morning post swim brekkie is the best, bacon rolls on brioche buns with a coffee over looking the lake. Evening swim is also devine!

Been visiting Shepperton Lake for a while now and can honestly say the staff and lake itself are brilliant. Family run team makes for a cosy, welcoming environment and you always feel like you’re safe in and out of the water.

Great swim this morning. The water is cooling down (16C) which I prefer. The crew were as welcoming and friendly as always, and the lake was lovely and clear. The swans were quite inquisitive too.

A great friendly local open water swim location, the staff are really approachable and the venue is well run and safe. There are two loops one long around the lake and a shorter in the middle. You must have a colourful hat to swim but they do sell these here! Wetsuits are optional. Wacka coffee van does bacon rolls and nice coffee on site and there are also yoga classes! Note to swim here you must first book and induction swim which can be arranged via their Instagram page. Due to the current restrictions there are no toilet facilities (hence 4 stars) usually they share the sailing club next door and I would hope this agreement resumes.

SOWS is one of my favourite places to swim. Happy, welcoming staff, well laid out course and everyone is very friendly. I've introduced a number of others to the lake and each one is a convert.

You couldn't want anything more from an open water swimming venue. It has a great atmosphere and the staff and very helpful and friendly. Water is clear and clean. Wet suit hire, snacks all available and in a lovely part of the world. Be sure to check out The ferry cafe a the end of the road by the river for a post workout brunch.

Today I was greeted by the most unwelcoming, rude and challenging female member of staff who made me feel as if I was trespassing on her private land. Do not recommend. Manners cost nothing… I have worked in hospitality all my life and would never speak to someone the way I was spoken to Whilst I understand this spot may get people trespassing this truly was not the case … I said hello to a couple of people… hardly trespassing….I only wanted a coffee !!!! Very rude patronising… not something you would expect from something that SHOULD be a peaceful experience

Beautiful location and quite busy on my first visit (I got swum over by a few very fast swimmers) and I am keen to give it another try at a less busy time. I am finding the booking system frustrating and have not been able to book another session to give it another try as I am put off by the no "booking no swim". The app won't let me proceed as I am not a "health professional" and I don't want to drive all the way there and get turned back. This is why I am only giving it 2 stars.

Great place for swimming. Just opened again for swimmers but the toilets are closed! It's OK for us men but my wife is very disappointed as an age group British triathlon competitor. When asked, Shepperton said that nobody else has complained. No problems though there are plenty of other considerate lakes around.

Lovely swim as usual. I read s negative comment about dog poo. Which isn't true. It is goose poo. They have equal rights to be there!!

A well managed OWS location, super friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and good course markings.

  • 1/5 Lucas G. 3 years ago on Google
The first time (and will be the last time) visit the location. There is a million of dog poo all over the ground! I am not joking. In fact, I think there is more than a million of dog poo there. I can't walk because there is no anywhere is clean over there! Why so many poo on the ground and no one care? Why!

  • 5/5 Anna P. 4 years ago on Google
Wish it were open all year round! 50m, 400m and 750m loops with good opening hours during the swimming season. Easy induction process. Multiple kayaks and a watcher on land. Can’t tell if there are changing rooms - most people change at their cars. They should make more of the social side with the little coffee van (which is a bit more expensive than we expected)

Beautiful lake, easy and convenient booking system, lovely staff and atmosphere and they take COVID-19 seriously so I feel safe going to swim there. There is a bike rack to lock your bike to and plenty of space to drop your stuff on the grass and claim a spot to change on if you've cycled, and there's even a coffee van for delicious refreshments. I'm a beginner in open water swimming so was asked to do a mandatory coached session for my first visit and it was excellent, really improving my technique and enjoyment of swimming. I'm looking forward to continuing to visit on a weekly basis for the remainder of the season.

Swim very well organized - good parking and toilets available. Very helpful staff. Wouldn’t count on food and coffee (especially if you were to accompany a swimmer - coffee is only instant, there are some pre packed muffins and cereal bars also bacon baps - but you probably had better before) but covers all the bases if desperate.
