My wife and I have been to Matfen Hall several times over the past 20 years. This was our first visit since the recent refurbishment and it was fantastic. From the moment you arrive its an experience rather than just a visit. We were met at the entrance by the concierge who took our luggage and then parked the car for us. We were lead through into the great hall where we enjoyed our complimentary drinks. Chelsea joined us to complete our check in. When we were ready we were taken to our room where our luggage was waiting for us. We enjoyed our visit to the spa. Our evening meal was in one of the three dining rooms available. Ours was in the new cloisters dining room. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Our room was lovely with a super king bed allowing us a great night's sleep. Breakfast was again in the cloisters and again perfect. Overall if you are looking for a luxury break I can't recommend Matfen Hall enough.

The whole spa day was lovely from start to end. Starting with being greeted at the door by Des who escorted us to the spa with a lovely chat and smile. He had already shown us around prior to us booking the spa day which definitely helped us to make up our minds about our spa day there. When we got to the spa, we were greeted by Emma who was very friendly and helpful. She talked us through the consultation form and explained our day. She was very patient when we were indecisive about our food order which was great. She was constantly checking in on us throughout the day to ensure we were enjoying ourselves which made a huge difference. The massage with Chloe was fabulous. She was very comforting and talked through everything with us prior to our massages which was great. The massage was fantastic. The food that was included as part of the spa day (we opted for the 3 course meal) was delicious and fresh and served quickly. The ‘Matfen Mess’ was absolutely incredible, one of the best desserts I’ve had. The spa was clean and quiet which added to the overall enjoyment of the day. My only “gripes” were that the water in the fridges ran out and did not get topped up while we were there and the sanitary bins in the women’s changing rooms were overflowing which was not ideal.

I haven't been to Matfen Hall for over 5 years, as standards had slipped and it was looking very tired. I said I would never go back. But I'm glad I did, what a transformation, the whole place has had a fantastic makeover. The staff are so much nicer and professional. The main entrance and reception is very welcoming. The food was also back upto a very high standard. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Been a lot over the years, but this was our first time since the huge renovation and new ownership. We only went to the spa this time, however the service was fantastic. The pool etc is always clean, and no exceptions this time. Nice and peaceful break, which we didn't expect being the Summer Holidays. Do not come here if you want a loud weekend or evening, or if you're going to turn the place into that 🤣 Special mention to Des (front of house/reception), Mel, Claire and Emma in the Spa, who made our break 10/10! Above and Beyond 🙌

Visiting my sister from Australia and she gifted me a half day spa visit with lunch. We had such a wonderful time (today) relaxing - the staff were fabulous and even gave me a little tour. Congratulations to all involved, not only on an outstanding refurbishment but in putting together such a welcoming friendly team who are clearly proud of where they work. Do yourself a favour if you are in the area and make the time to visit even if it's just for afternoon tea in the orangery ... even better treat yourself and make a weekend of it!

Matfen Hall is gorgeous, went here before re-furbishment and it was great then, but now it is out of this world. They have made some changes but for the better, decorations are beautiful. Love they drive up to reception it has been a change for the better, get full experience of the hall and grand hall. Would recommend to everyone. Didn’t stay overnight this time, just visited for afternoon tea. Absolutely scrumptious. Staff helpful well mannered and happy. Had a little tour on arriving with a very nice gentlemen whose name I can’t remember and he explained how it changes for weddings.(my grand-daughter was married here fantastic time and stay). Cannot recommend enough.

We stayed here last year and it was good. We stayed here July 23, and it’s even better. The owners have spent a huge amount on the hotel, making a few gaps into luxurious space. The new glass roof Cloisters bar and restaurant is beautifully done, the staff are really nice and helpful, and the food in the Cloisters restaurant was excellent. I had a rib eye steak and it was one of the best I’ve had. The meat is from local farm, the seafood looked good and obviously locally sourced as well. Pool / spa also excellent, grounds well kept, overlooking the golf course. An excellent spot to stay in the countryside. Update - breakfast service Sunday morning was dreadful. Understaffed, took 10 mins for someone to come and ask if we wanted tea/coffee. Then some breakfasts turned up at our table, but not for us. Then the wrong tea turned up. Then some juice but no glasses. Then some other breakfasts, but still not ours. Then we chased the “pastries” and got a tray with 2 very small pastries, and 2 slides of white “toast” that had barely been shown the toaster. Then our actual breakfasts turned up. Pancakes with “crispy” bacon, the bacon wasn’t crispy it was pink and wet, which means bacon juice mixes with the maple syrup. A lot of other tables having similar issues. Basically understaffed for breakfast service, not well trained, table numbering clearly had an issue confusing deliveries of plates to nearly all the wrong tables for all breakfasts. It seriously should not be difficult to sit people at a table for breakfast and as they sit down ask if they want tea or coffee and juice. Then they have something to drink whilst thinking on food. You can get that in a diner !

Amazing hotel with a lovely spa. We ate in the emerald restaurant and it was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I will definitely be returning.

Wow this hotel is just stunning in every single way, absolutely blown away. The staff were so attentive and friendly, the food was gorgeous but the room......oh goodness me it was special. I feel privileged to say I have stayed there, we will be back again soon.

I was killing time and looking for some brunch. Turned in thinking there might be a cafe at the 19th hole of the golf club, only to discover at amazing hotel that has just recently reopened after a major overhaul. I had the most amazing breakfast in there main guest breakfast room. And will certainly go back for afternoon tea or maybe even an overnight family gathering. Everything was superb. All the best to the staff and management.

Superb country house hotel, spa and golf course. High specification rooms, facilities and dining. Excellent customer service, beautiful interior design and relaxing surroundings make this a great destination for weekends, special occasions or a break from the rat race. Fantastic restaurant options including fine dining, great drinks menu and atmospheric setting. Thoughtful design and furnishings make this a unique and memorable venue. Warm and friendly welcome from all staff and a very comfortable environment to unwind. Would recommend.

Our new favourite hotel in the UK. This place is luxurious, charming and very well maintained. My partner surprised me with a stay here for our anniversary celebrations and I was thrilled. We had a couples massage, which was great (my only feedback would be that some music wouldn’t go amiss!) and we had dinner at the Emerald restaurant, Cloisters and afternoon tea. All were top notch. The Emerald Restaurant has a set menu so you don’t really want to eat there twice in a row as you’ll have the same meal as the first night, but it is definitely worth booking for a special meal in a posh setting. In Cloisters we enjoyed Cheese Soufflé, oysters, mussels and bread. Every bite was delicious and there was nothing we didn’t enjoy. The afternoon tea was beautiful in the greenhouse. The setting overlooking the golf course is wonderful. We can’t wait to go back! 🥂

From the moment we entered and were seated in the Great Hall and asked about our trip with some drinks we felt welcome. We missed out on the car service, if you drive up to the front entrance, they will decant your luggage and park your car, because we did not know about it. The Spa area was very nice and we used it twice, but have no pictures. The building and grounds were lovely I will add quite a few pictures. The staff were all lovely and helpful. Our room had such a comfortable bed that I will be buying the same mattress for our home. We had bed and breakfast and the breakfast was very nice, the sausage might be the nicest one I've ever had, the bacon was not smoked as expected but everything else was perfect.

Wow, what an experience! My husband and I stayed here for one night with our dog Winston. From start to finish, it was incredible. What really sets this place apart is the wonderful staff. We were given the warmest welcome and our dog was greeted like a celebrity as all the staff knew his name and had been excited for him to arrive! A special mention must go to Des, who came and checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed and always greeted us with the warmest smile. He is a major asset to an already wonderful of team. It's clear the staff are passionate about making each guest's experience special. Nothing was too much trouble. I also enjoyed a luxury manicure with the lovely Melissa, who was so warm and welcoming. The building and its surroundings are utterly stunning. The spa, golf course, restaurants, walks and many bars mean there's plenty of activities to choose from. The rooms were exemplary, down to every tiny detail. The only downside was the room was very hot. A fan was provided and it was explained that, due to building regulations, aircon cannot be installed, which I understand. Overall it was a truly special, relaxing and luxurious country escape. We can't wait to come back!

We came here from Isle of Skye while on a vacation in the UK. We were celebrating my sisters birthday here from the time we pulled up to the reception area we felt like royalty. The staff is amazing. The hotel beautiful and amazingly maintained. The attention to detail is something that i have never seen living in dubai all my life. In the evening the staff came made our beds, kept a bottle of water on both bedsides and closed all the curtains for a good night sleep. The restaurant was able to cater to our food requirements by making halal chicken for us. Our stay in the hotel was fantastic and i would highly recommend you to visit and stay at this gorgeous estate worth every penny. ❤️
