St Mary & St Cuthbert's Church

Tourist attraction Parish

👍 I went to a christening here and it's a beautiful church. There are no parking spaces at the church so you'll have to use the main car park opposite the church. It's right next to the road which gets quite busy so keep an eye out for your little ones. People often mention church, beautiful,

Very beautiful church built in different phases from 1056 to 1829 starting with a wooden shrine in 883 ad.

Stunning place of worship. The staff that look after this church opened the doors for me and my family to look round to help with our family history research. Was a great experience well kept building. If you visit please donate as it's will help maintain and preserve this lovely building.

I love this church. You can see it standing proud above all the buildings from afar and especially from the A1. My parents were married here on a cold day in November 1956 but according to them both ( now deceased) the church remained exactly as it was when they married. Wonderful building and worth seeing both inside and out. If only walls could tell stories this building would hold volumes.

A beautiful church both inside and out. It has a brilliant history linked to St. Cuthbert, I got married in here some years ago and although the marriage didn't work out the service itself was fantastic and the church looks beautiful in the photo's. There is also a war memorial in the gardens at the rear. At night when the church is lit up it looks fantastic, if your visiting Chester le street it is a must see.

This is a little treasure of a church.which is over 1100 years old with copy of the Lyndisfarn gospels lovely stained glass and stone effegies of knights in the church. We went to the Parrish center across the road where there was amazing homemade cakes and pies. The ladies who made them served them with fresh wipped cream, jam on warm scones. Such lovely ladies

Had a lovely and informative guide (Alex) who gave us a tour of the church and info about its early days. You can even see a copy of the Lindisfarne gospel. There's also an interesting museum next to it.

Beautiful church, home to the original Lindisfarne Gospels hundreds of years ago. Also w very welcoming and modern weekly Sunday service at 9 : 30 a.m., if you are visiting and want to attend a service in the area.
