We took our little boy who's 4 here for the Thomas day and he absolutely loved it. We were there for 10am and left around 3pm but we could've easily stayed a little longer had he not been a little tired. We started the day by taking a ride in Percy across to Shelley Station which lasted about 20 mins. Some nice views plus a trip through a large tunnel. We spent over an hour at Shelley playing in the park, taking a ride on Toby, watching a man make large bubbles and played in the imagination tent with the tracks. We headed back to the main station where we watched Rusty and Dusty mess around and took tides on Mavis and Thomas. We then used the cafe which was reasonably priced to be honest. After dinner we spent some time on the rides, played on the pillow and took a trip on the miniature railway. I highly recommend a visit here, there's lots to do and to keep little ones entertained for the day.

I honestly can't tell you how good this place is. We have been to the Thomas weekend and it has been one of the best days out I've ever been to. We spent 6 hours there! All staff friendly and everywhere clean and so much to do! The food in the cafe is lovely. Recommend the pizzas. Fresh and properly fired. Unlimited platform rides and the train to Shelley was lovely. About 25 mins but very scenic. 110% recommend!

Great little adventure park for the little ones. There's plenty to see and do for a very reasonable price. You could easily spent a whole day here. Ample free parking and a lovely cheap cafe on site.

Fantastic local attraction - It's been many years since we've been and it's been heavily invested in since. Kids playground are amongst some of the best we've been to plenty of space, well laid out and a nice mix of age variety in each. At Shelley there's another playground, ice cream parlour and picnic area. Fantastic views along the route and somewhere we plan to visit much more regular living within 5mins of the main Clayton West site. Well done Kirklees Light Railway a great day out 👏

Really enjoyed our day here. It is advisable to book before going but this just makes it more organised and manageable for everyone. There is a small but real steam train that runs for 25 minutes each way. The food is good and reasonably priced. Aside from the train there is another small train that last for approximately five minutes and a great big inflatable pillow that the children jump on. I would recommend this attraction for children up to the age of 7/8.

Went to ride the train and take a walk. Unlocked the gate for us at our stop and we’re willing to have the train pick us up on return which would have been special But we walked back. Cafe was fine, bathrooms clean. Can’t comment on the kids entertainment.

Nice little light railway. Friendly staff and nice café and gift shop. Also smaller looping model railway that your can also ride on (extra) which is well worth it and enjoyed by our 18month y/old. Lord of COVID safe measures in place which slow thinks down a bit and you have to be patient though with it and the staff are doing their best taking into account the situation.

Santa express was magical. Our kids had such a fab time riding the train to see Santa. The elves absolutely made the day, the show was very cute and the elves at the station were such good characters. We liked that everything was ticketed and organised so there was no waiting in long queues. We would definitely book again for next year.

We went here for the Christmas events they had on where you can see Santa at the "North Pole" (Shelley Station). It was really good, both adults and children enjoyed it alike. The staff were pleasant, queue was minimum, and it was well organised. Plenty of free parking just outside the entrance. Will hopefully visit again another time.

I was expecting to stay a couple hours but with my train obsessed son I was here from 11 to 5. Lovely variety of activities. This is great for small children. My son is 4 and my daughter 2. The pillow was great and they really enjoyed both playgrounds.

👍It is one of those places worth visiting. The journey between the two railway stations takes about 24 minutes and is also very interesting. The ride is between villages and a big tunnel, and you can't forget about the big mountains! A big inflatable pillow does a great job on which children really have fun, the playgrounds on both sides are so-so, it seems to me that they are very similar locally between the blocks, the food is good in the premises and the service is nice. It is worth remembering that you can buy a little adventure or big adventure ticket and honestly the difference is only a few £ and for the latter you can ride the train as many times as you want. The perfect place for a weekend getaway with the family 👍👍👍👍👍👍

We have been twice and both times had a great time. It’s not over subscribed, which makes it quite intimate and special because the staff have every opportunity to make it special. We have just done the Santa express and it was magical. Very well organised and the Santa the best we have ever seen! We would definitely recommend a visit here on any day and definitely for the festivities.

Had a wonderful time on Xmas eve with the family. The Christmas/santa event was excellent. We've been to many others in the past and must say this was one of the best....... The good weather was defo an added bonus though. I don't give anything away but all the elves, including Santa were on top form, even on Christmas Eve! Thanks guys. Hopefully see you next time.

Great value for money. Friendly staff. Loved the train ride. Besides that there's more to do for the kids..... Crazy golf, bouncy pillow, miniature train ride, pedal carts, the shed (for smaller kids) and a playground. Staff do mention there are some fairground rides that are chargeable but if you buy the "big adventure" tickets on general admission days, all rides are included and are unlimited.

Wow what an amazing experience. Our 2 small grandsons were enthralled. Santa was so good even I believed 😀. The elves were magical and every member of staff contributed to making our visit memorable. Having attended It's now clear to see why December was fully booked. Best Santa experience ever.

Nice place. Great for the kids and a fun way to spend the afternoon. Friendly staff and good select on activities for the little ones. Will definitely go again. Food offering is limited, but there are picnic tables for you to use if you bring your own food. Great value for money I would say.

We had a family day out for the Dino event and loved it. My little lad may be a little young for most of the activities but enjoyed himself and got some lovely keepsakes from the day Would definitely recommend and be going back

This is a fantastic day out for families. We took the big adventure which mean you could go on any of the trains and children coul go on the little train and the playground. Bring your own packed lunch and eat it at one of the many tables either undercover or outside or there are facilities to buy something if that your preference. From 2 to 60 you can have fun!

Today we attended "Little Engineers" my little boy loved every minute, excellent value for money and great facilities. He loved the train rides, the park and the fact that he could watch the refilling of water for the steam train and the turn table being operated. Excellent covid safety measures in place too, clearly signed and well explained by the lovely ladies on entry (but there is no accounting for people who do not pay attention!) Thank you, we will definitely be returning!

Visited on a Friday in September for Little Engineers day. It was really quiet and when we arrived I felt apprehensive as it looked a little run down. Inside , it was better than expected! Cafe had a decent choice of food and drink even though it was limited provision due to time of year and type of day ie. Little engineers. We rode on the mini train several times, had a ride on the tram and travelled to the first station on the train line and back again. We could have gone more times but we decided to try the play facilities. The bouncy pillow was great fun with my grandson and his mummy and daddy enjoying it together. There is also a great play area for little ones, looks fairly new and is well looked after. Inside play facility is in need of attention. There is a gift shop which although limited manages to squeeze in lots of choices of various engines. Overall good value for money for the Little Engineers Day.

Wonderful day out, really well priced, too. We've been coming for years (even when I was a child and I'm 27 now) but the new upgrades make it even better! The play areas are really well thought out for both older and younger children. The staff are all really friendly, both those that run the trains and those working hard within the buildings to keep things organised. We purchased the Big Adventure tickets so were able to ride the trains as much as we liked, plus unlimited rides on the Clayton Flyer which my youngest child adored. We can't wait to come back.

We went to the Christmas event this evening, totally wonderful! Our son loved all the things going on, the toy from the big man and the gingerbread man were the icing on the ginger bread house for him! On top of that, I had no idea father Christmas was so charismatic, warm and utterly heart melting. We will be back again next year, very worth the price.

We had a Christmas trip to see "Santa". We have done this for a few years now and our daughter loves it. It's a wonderful experience we hope to repeat until she's too old 😞. The staff are friendly and helpful. I'm non verbal and they are all so understanding and friendly

We took our daughter to meet Bluey and Bingo and we all had a wonderful day. Her face lit up when she saw them and she loved the bouncy pillow. She also had her first train ride. We had a brilliant time.

Excellent ghost train ride, the lady dressed up and making sure we were in the correct carriages and warning us about the ghosts was great. All the various skeleton, witches and scary stuff along the ride were good. But the best part was when the train stopped at the end and the campers waving and shouting at us. I'm not going to give it away but youngsters may need therapy.! Probably some of the adults as well.! 😁

Great day out here and very reasonably priced for what you get. We paid for the option where you just go on the miniature train. There is a slightly more expensive option where you get to go on the miniature train and then on a larger steam train. We decided not to go on the steam train as we did not think my daughter would stay occupied enough as the train ride each way was about 20 minutes. She was definitely happy just riding the miniature train that goes in a circuit. There was a large, undercover, bouncing pillow which was great when it started to drizzle. The play area was really new and well equipped. We also played crazy golf and then there were some pedal go karts on a mini road. The cafe was good and had a good range of food. There was a small carousel, but it was additional money to ride this. But everything else above was included in the ticket, which I thought was very good. We went on a Saturday afternoon as well, which was very quiet. I would definitely visit again!

Went on the Halloween train was good kids really enjoyed worth the money. There is a cafe had a few hotdogs and hot chocolates reasonably priced. Saw a kids playground but it was dark and wet so couldn't use but there for daytime use dependent on the weather.

First time going. 2 kids. Child 7 and 2. Bought the big adventure ticket. Steam train okay ( they're mini) not standard. Which are cute for the kids but if your tall 6ft+ you may need to slouch for the full 25 minutes to shelly Station. Kids enjoyed it though, through tunnels and scenic areas. Desert parlour is nice, park next to it. It said they're are ( rides ) at the clayton station. Its just 1 ride. A small carousel for the younger children. So that was disappointing for my eldest as expected atleast 4/5 rides. The fire pit Cafe. We all had a pizza and they were actually delicious, fries nice. However the hot drinks, ordered a regular latte for £2.70 and it was in a cup the size up from espresso. So wasn't a regular. It was 3 mouthfuls. Gift shop, is what you expected. I'll try the events next time.

Great little railway. We always have a great time with our grandson and it's great value. As well as the main railway there's a miniature railway, a great playground and what they call a pillow which is a giant inflatable sort of pillow and the children can run and bounce all over it. This was a big hit with our grandson. All this is included in the price. Unlimited rides too. There are also a couple of fairground rides at additional cost and a cafe at the main station plus another smaller playground with somewhere for icecream and coffee at the destination station. It's a great day out. If you don't want a ride on the main train you can purchase a ticket around half the price which gives you unlimited access to all the attractions at Clayton West station.
