Fantastic site with friendly owners. Thank you for the kendal mint cake. The site is situated in the country and is one of the best sites we have been to. Spotless showers, toilets and dish washing area. Dog area to let your pets off the lead. We would definitely be returning soon.

Lovely small campsite, ideal for stop overs on a long commute. Really nice owner (only met the man) I’d have given 5 stars but ultimately another guest ruined my stay by shouting abuse at me for taking my therapy dog to the bathroom with me. There were no “no dogs” signs. Perhaps stronger rules in place could’ve prevented this.

was greeted by the owner on arrival with kendal mint cake and a welcome pack which explained everything regarding the stay The site is impeccably clean well organised and with lovely views of the area our motorhome pitch was adjacent to the toilet and shower block which was kept very clean, the site is very quiet too.

We spent 2 nights in the Shepherds hut and totally enjoyed it. The owner is very friendly and helpful, they provided BBQ, gas and firewood. The hut is very clean and cosy, we would come back again and highly recommended this place when you come to Lake District.

A lovely quiet site about 5 miles out of Kendal. It was so peaceful, we were met at the gate and given all relevant information with 3 bars of complimentary Kendal mint cake. We were then shown to our pitch which was level and handy for the toilets which were spotlessly clean Will definitely be returning to this site.

Stayed in one of the Shepherds Huts over the bank holiday weekend and attending Cartmel Races. The site is peaceful and very well maintained. Very efficient and friendly staff. The Shepherds hut was great. Very modern with en suite shower room (lovely hot shower) hob, microwave and fridge, toaster kettle. Sofa which made into a double bed, table and chairs. Hanging space for clothes. Tv and heating. The balcony had a table and chairs and the outside space had a seat, bbq and Fire pit. Extra storage in a shed outside. Totally relaxing. Will definitely go back .

A superb adult only site in a stunning location. Immaculate and well kept a real credit to everyone involved. Superb facilities and excellent level pitches. Close to the M6 but far enough away not to hear the traffic. Fred is really helpful and a great chap. We were only going to stay 1 night but ended up staying 3 nights. We couldn't fault it and would definitely like to return when we visit Kendal again. An excellent base whilst visiting the Kendal area plenty to do and see. Thank you for a warm welcome and an excellent stay.

Amazing camping site. Super friendly and accommodating owners. We found this site by chance and we are so glad that we did. We will certainly make this our favourite place to stay when making future bookings to stay in the area.

Our first ever outing in our newly acquired campervan and we couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay. When booking over the phone we explained to Val that we were ‘newbies’ and she assured us we would be in good hands and they had spares of everything just in case we forgot something. Met Fred on arrival, lovely chap and made sure we were all good and came to ‘check on us’ that all was ok once we were set up. Site kept very tidy and neat, toilets and showers nice and clean and other guests very friendly. Think going forwards we will always be comparing to The Ashes ! Thanks Val and Fred

This is our first visit to Ashes Caravan Park. What a hero Fred is he single handed manoeuvred our Caravan on to the pitch. He also keeps the site immaculate. The facilities are of the highest quality. I would highly recommend this Park so go on give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Firstly location. The site is set in the rolling countryside just outside Kendal. It is not centre lakes, so that would need a drive. Against that you get glorious peace and tranquility at a fraction of the price. Your location depends on your requirements, and that isn't part of my review. The Italians have a saying "A fish rots from the head". This is especially true of a caravan site, if you get a Richard Head for an owner you invariably get the same clientele. The converse is true. The owner, Valerie, is lovely and took the trouble to come out and greet us as we walked the dogs. Fred, her partner, manages the site and is truly brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble, when we arrived be was helping an old chap put up an awning. We found the other campers to be cheerful, friendly and polite. Great atmosphere. Now the site. I have NEVER seen a site more lovingly built and tended. It has not a blade of grass out of place, from the entrance to the pitches it is kept to perfection. The pitches are adequate sizewise if not generous, and flat. Each pitch has water and electric. Now the showers and loos. I'm pretty sure they are cleaner than a hospital operating theatre and unless I'm mistaken the showers have underfloor heating. Seriously. Luxury ! Price was £27 per night, for what you get nationwide it is cheap these days. For the lakes it is a real bargain. The dog run could be bigger but OK for pee and poo at night, but there are great dog walks straight from the site. Obviously its the Lakes. Beware of sheep WiFi. 11Mb and free. Say WHAT? 11Mb on a rural location. Colour me flabbergasted Finally a site must be viewed against alternatives and the nearest one is Spital. Both have pluses. Ashes : Views - Rolling countryside v a hill or industrial estate Peace. - Spital by a main road Facilities - Ashes has beautiful loos and showers whereas Spital has none Owners. - Ashes are on site for problems. Spital off site General Atmosphere. - Ashes has a fantastic atmosphere whereas Spital was a little noisier and you were overlooked on 3 side Dog friendly - There are no dog walks from Spital but lots from Ashes. Kids. No kids on Ashes. Kids on Spital Spital Spital is close to the town and walking distance from the shops. Ashes is about 2.5 miles to a pub and 4 to the town. So.. conclusion. Forgetting the location, I have never been to a more lovingly put together and tended site. It is perfect, I cannot find a criticism. If you have a caravan, campervan, or are wanting an overnight in a motorhome en route then this is the site for you. No comparison, no debate. No kids so no noise and bouncing balls. Common sense caveat. If you have a large motorhome and are staying for a while then you may find the town centre location of Spital better for you, or if you have kids. This isn't a reflection on the site it is just the nature of the choice between town centre and country. You either choose a stunning site a little out of town or a farmers field by a busy road in town. Depends on your needs. I gave this site 5 stars for everything in the review. I'm changing it. I'm making it 10 stars . The owners are worth a 2 times bonus. One to treasure, one to revisit time and time again.. Excuse the photo quality. We arrived late and dusk and a slight mistake were descending, they don't do the site justice.

What a fantastic site. We stopped here for an overnight stay en route to Scotland, and wish we were staying for longer. We had a really warm greeting from Fred who kindly helped us manoeuvre our caravan onto the pitch. He provided us with all the site information and some Kendal mint cake which was a lovely little extra touch and was delicious. The site and toilet/shower block is immaculate, and the site has gorgeous views of rolling hills. Such a lovely peaceful site, a real gem. We will be back yo visit again soon. Excellent small caravan park. Situated in a beautiful part of the Lake District. Easy to reach from the M6. The site is well positioned for exploring the Lakes. The owner welcomed us and helped us to position the caravan on our pitch. How nice is that. The site is immaculately maintained, with neat lawns, shrubs and picnic tables. The facility block is also immaculate, with toilets, wash basins and separate showers with underfloor heating. So nice in the cooler months. And if you don't have a caravan, there are two glamping huts to enjoy. This site is going on our favourite list. We loved it. 😎 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

Lovely little site. Very quiet location. Most pitches look as if they are seasonal. Facilities spotless. The heated shower room floor was a boost. Not a great deal to do locally apart from walks so mostly caravans on site allowing for greater flexibility in getting around. We were there for one night as a stop over in a camper so we brought our stuff with us. The quaint village has no shop, cafe or pub. This is a bit of a gem though. Adults only, peaceful, immaculate and it was great to be woken up to the sounds of the countryside. The cows, sheep and a distant cockerel. The crows were a bit noisy though!

Beautiful campsite set in a peaceful location. The only sounds to be heard are the sounds of the surrounding countryside. In response to the previous review re the dogs from the farm - we have stayed 4 times (once for 10 days during same period) and the farmer and his dogs were never out at 5 or 6am as stated. More like 9am and even then, it wasn't an issue at all. If you don't like the sounds of the countryside, maybe don't go? The site is spotlessly clean and beautifully kept by the owners. Good showers, toilets and 16amp electric hook up. The owners could not be more helpful and friendly. We have returned 4 times this year and will definitely be back in the future.

We stopped in one of the Shepherd huts for a birthday surprise and it really was lovely. Spotless, very well taken care of, comfy & warm. Lots of little extras make you feel special and homely. Loved the chiminea and the BBQ. Peaceful surroundings not far from Kendal (10 miles) with lots of restaurant choices (we went to Corner 124 and it was beautiful) and we also drove out to Bowness which was just under half an hour and got to visit the gorgeous Windermere lake. I didn’t catch the guy’s name who worked there but a big thank you for your clear instructions showing us around and thanks as well to Val for seamlessly organising.
