This was our first time dining at a Michelin star restaurant and we were not disappointed. The staff were excellent and extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine. The atmosphere was cozy and modern. The food was absolutely amazing! I highly recommend this little gem in the heart of Ambleside.

The food here is outstanding throughout the tasting menu (the beetroot meringue and the trout were our favourite). The personal notes from the chef was insightful and really enhanced the experience. The service is professional and attentive, but still remains warm & friendly. This has been a highlight of our Lake District trip, and the restaurant definitely deserves its Michelin star.

Lovely restaurant in the heart the Lakes. Excellent food served by a great team in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Highlights for me were the potted shrimp in a delightful sauce and the perfectly cooked venison.

This restaurant is an amazing place to eat. My husband and I ate here on our vacation and were absolutely amazed by the quality of the food. It is on the pricier side, but worth the money. Totally recommend doing the full course dinner with a wine pairing. Cheers!

5 stars not enough. The restaurant itself is small with only a few diners per sitting. Flawless and personable service and showcasing the best food Cumbria has to offer. Everything of the highest quality and the creativity and flair was evident. No real room for improvement! (Visited in April and hope to be back soon)

Great fine dining experience in Ambleside. The menu was very delicious and diversified, plenty of surprises along the way. The desserts were truly spectacular. One fun fact that I have learned is that the next door deli that collects and sells local produce from the village farms provides a few of the ingredients for the Michelin restaurant. Couldn’t recommend it enough, beautiful atmosphere and a great cozy vibe.

Sometimes, you forget how enjoyable food can be. If you gave forgotten, go to The Old Stamp House and you will be reminded, very quickly. As well as the food, loved the quirky decor and particularly the moss wall! Attentive and friendly waitresses too.

Cannot recommend highly enough. Ignore the negative reviews - if you are in the lakes you have many choices for fine dining - make sure one of them is the Old Stamp House. Phenomenal food and nice relaxing environment. Service was great, our dietary requirements well taken care of, couldn’t ask for more.

What a fabulous lunch. A beautifully balanced menu that was a series of very creative dishes. It’s difficult to pick a stand out but I have never enjoyed a venison dish like this! Great service that wasn’t too stuffy. Nice ambience. Provocative wine choices on the testing menu. Michelin stars bring a weight of expectation to the experience and this team disappoint. At £55ph it’s great value too. Thank you.

As wonderful as last time we were here. A few changes to the menu which is good and ambience and food matching is amazing reputation. Absolutely superb value. 👌

Wow! I've eaten in some great restaurants and can honestly say that the food and service at the Old Stamp House is second to none. Quite superb.

How does Ryan get so much flavour into his dishes is a mystery to me. He must be a magician! We had the lunch menu earlier this week and it was fantastic! All of it was amazing from the very first course. Stand outs for me were the last three courses of fish, venison and finally dessert. Atmosphere was cozy, place was full and so had a little buzz about it but the way the tables are laid out and the lighting is done it allows you to also be close to your partner and focus on the food. Staff are all super friendly and meeting Ryan was ace! This is now on our to do list every time we visit the Lakes!

A fabulous dining experience. Sumptuous, elegant, high quality food brought to you by people who are experts in their field. A really exceptional combination of locally sourced food with well paired international wines. Each course explained with enthusiasm, knowledge and care. Highly recommended, though patience is required for the 6mth wait for a table. Well worth the wait, so just book it and have something very special to look forward to.

Beautiful ambience and service. The tasting menu was very inventive. Not sure if the flavours sang as much as they could have done for the vegetarian menu, but some of the first courses and the puddings were divine.

Thank you Old Stamp House for a lovely, luxurious, dining experience. We were made to feel most welcome from start to finish…by all the staff. The food was exceptional. We opted for the paired wine choice, Craig was very helpful with his explanations relating to each wine….and for us the pairings really seemed to work. It was luxurious but there was no faff or over attentiveness, that’s just how we like it. Thank you to all the team at the Old Stamp House, Sharon & John Jones

Probably one of the best meals we have ever had. Fabulous flavours. Really good to have time to chat to all the staff and head chef. We'll get back if we can for sure. Great meal and experience.

We had an fabulous dining experience here. The dinner tasting menu was very well thought-out, cohesive and very tasty. The Old Stamp House Restaurant prides themselves in using locally sourced ingredients and it shows in the menu. As the dinner went on, each course just kept getting better and better. The mushroom course was very inventive and flavourful. The turbot was well cooked and the sauce complimented the fish well. The main lamb course was very delicious, a real standout. The desserts courses were all very well done. Service was very attentive. Overall, I am very happy with the dining experience here and the restaurant definitely deserves the one Michelin star. For less than £100, the 10-course tasting menu is an excellent value for money. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, Lake District does offer several options but The Old Stamp House should be among the top of your list.

😠 The food was so bad I don’t even have words. Absolutely everything on my plate was frozen food from the freezer. Had roast potatoes that were still frozen in the middle, as well as parsnips. The turkey was obviously reheated in the microwave as all the edges were crispy and hard! The only thing that...
