Very interesting and very poignant. Since nearly all the former airfield is agricultural land, the restored control tower looks out over fields that would have been covered with runways and hardstands for approx 70 (4 sqdns) B-17 Flying Fortresses. The upcoming Hanks & Spielberg TV mini-series 'Masters of the Air' focuses on the 100th Bomb Group, so expect this memorial museum to become the centre of much attention next year. I've reviewed the museum for Mechtraveller.

This museum is excellent and the volunteers are fantastic. My family and I came here to learn more about my father in-law's plane and crew. The staff did some fast research to confirm he was stationed here and some history of his plane that was shot down over Munster. They have tons of donated and acquired artifacts and memorabilia. A wonderful day out!

This museum is wonderful,so much to see,it looks very small from outside, but it is crammed with superb artefacts and stories from men who were stationed there. It is set in a peaceful rural setting, and when standing in the flight tower, you look out to where the runways were and imagine B17โ€™s leaving and returning from their missions, which is very evocative. The staff are great cheerful and friendly, they canโ€™t do enough plenty of local stories. This museum is worth a visit you wonโ€™t be disappointed.

Such an amazing place to visit. The volunteers who have put their hearts into restoring the airfield are the kindest people you can imagine. Get to know the countless stories of these Bomber crews through the exhibits and by engaging with them!

Stopped off on the way home from a weekend in Cromer mainly for my Dad to see. We were there quite late so had the place to ourselves. He was in the army in the 50s and spent some time with the USAAF while on training so it brought back some memories. It doesn't look much from the outside but there's tons of artefacts and we were given a lovely welcome from the volunteers. Spent about 90 mins there. Its free but you can leave a donation. Car park is a reasonable size there's a small gift shop, toilets and you can get hot drinks and snacks. I really think they could charge a fee, a fiver maybe. They had 6000 visitors a year pre covid so hopefully they will get the visitors again

A place steeped in wartime history, centred around the US 100th Bomber Squadrons that flew from Thorpe Abbots. It's manned purely by volunteers, and upon our arrival we were immediately welcomed by a very knowledgeable man who pointed out each area, the cafe, toilets, etc. Whilst exploring you'll get to see and read about life on the 'base' and about the amazingly brave pilots and servicemen who spent their time there. It's incredibly interesting, and definitely worth spending a couple of hours. Cold and hot drinks, snacks, as well as memorabilia, books and other items are on sale in the shop. Admission is free, but it's worth giving over some additional change to keep a place like this going.

Living history, a must see for anyone interested in WWII or RAF or USAAF. Staff, trustees are passionate and knowledgeable. They make the base come alive like it's 1942. Great gift store, books, jackets and badges. I emailed Richard who showed me my father's barracks, where he got his daily briefs, his B-17 hard stand and where he relaxed at the nearby Half Moon pub/inn. Many warm thanks and kudos to Richard, Mandy, James, Chris, Adrian and others for the VIP treatment! Also, I met Donald L. Miller there, author "Masters of the Air". A truly memorable day! Thank you all.

My dad was visiting me in the UK for the first time (Iโ€™m US Air Force), and my dad wanted to visit this place. I wonโ€™t lie, when you pull up to the location, you may be a bit unimpressed with how it looks on the outside. However, upon entering youโ€™re welcomed by the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff there is. Iโ€™ve visited museums throughout Europe, and can honestly say the staff here were the most knowledgeable and pleasant out of anywhere Iโ€™ve been. The actual displays and buildings are also quite nice when you go inside as well. Highly recommend you have Richard as your guide. But all staff are fantastic.

Great volunteer-run museum which centres on the former control tower which was restored in the late 70s. What's particularly good is that the museum does not glorify the destruction that the BG wrought on the Germans. The emphasis is on life at the airbase, with lots of memorabilia, uniforms and aircraft parts. Also a nice spacious reception area-cum-cafe selling hot drinks.

I had the opportunity to visit with a group today and what an amazing experience. The group of dedicated volunteers pull you right in with their commitment to preserving the memories of the valiant men and the community which embraced them. Debbie and her group brought the stories alive and the careful restoration of the control tower and the support buildings allows you to experience the bustle and urgency of the air base in its full scale frenzy fighting for freedom as such a high cost of lost men and planes. A very well done experience and I highly recommend. They are exceptional. Check their schedule.
