Great location, nice walks, and if you become a member it is excellent value for money for multiple visits. lovely shop and restaurant. Unbelievable sights when it's feeding time. we have never seen so many birds together in one place when it was time for the food. Can't wait to go back and explore more of the venue. Was only there for a short while, but so amazing! Reasonable prices, nice food, nice helpful staff, and very knowledgeable in their area of expertise.

A remarkable nature reserve, easily accessible to wheelchairs and disabled people. Very child orientated with plenty to do and see. An amazing children's playground, places to purchase food and drink at reasonable prices. Wonderful in either rain or sun. It has loads of different birds and otters and they have feeding times. My kids loved pond dipping and other activities they had put on. I absolutely adored my visit and can't wait to visit again. Thankyou for the brilliant day out

Great place to visit. Paths are decent with plenty of room. Loads of bird hides, we saw a barn owl from one of them. The place is massive. It really is an all-day place. The wild walk was fun with lots of mud and balance beams to walk on. There's loads of different birds, ducks, geese and swans. Plus flamingos and otters. The otter feed was worth watching! There's a reedbed walk which is grassy/ tracks and quite long, with some more bird hides. Large lego sculptures are dotted about the place. Also worth doing the canoe ride on the wetlands. It's a great way to see nature and costs £10 for an hour. The carpark is free and large. There's a cafe, children's playground, gift shop and plenty of toilets dotted about. Well worth a visit.

A beautiful sanctuary for a wide species of birds with educational information readily available everywhere. The paths are suitable for buggies, and almost all areas seemed accessible for wheelchairs (best contact the centre first to confirm this). The café serves meals and snacks and has indoor and outdoor seating areas. The visitors' centre has an interesting exhibition and the shop has a good range of merchandise. All in all, it is truly enjoyable visit.

Brilliant place to go bird spotting a d for walking. Staff are friendly and helpful and will approach you and speak to you. The area is well looked after and beautiful to look at. Lots to do for all the family. It's a little on the expensive side for a one-off visit, but it does help support and look after the birds and otters. Cafe available and toilets. Also a playground for children and parking is free.Fully recommended 👌

Lovely place to visit. Ideal for young kids group visits. Not a massive complex but definitely has a lot to offer. Nice and flat ,clean and well kept nature reserve, I would say nature reserve on my views, if it isn't classed as one already it definitely deserves the title. Coffee and ice-creams are affordable and great value for the portions. My latte was served in a smaller than expected cup but tasted nice and strong and blended well with the mouth watering 🍨. Very friendly and professional staff. All extremely polite and helpful. The kids will love it, there is a kids play area here on your entrance and I can only see this as a misplaced and only downside to a brilliant afternoon vacation. I think this area should be moved to the end of the journey, kids can burn the rest of their energy off whilst you catch up with the latest or just sit and chat about the new memories you just undertaken. I'd definitely give this place 10 stars if that was in their planning??? 7 for that reason only.

Very lovely place with friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. Alan on the boat ride was very informative. Strongly advise wellies for kids as they love splashing through the puddles and shallow water. Great play area and many activities throughout the year to get involved in.

What an amazing place! Lush green, bird songs everywhere, ducks and ducklings waddling towards you hoping for some seeds (get them from the shop), pink flamingos, unusual birds from South America, Africa and Australia and a couple of otters too! Soothing swishing sound of the wind in the high reeds and several observation hides to look at the birds in the trees or on the wetland. Facilities: gift shop, café, Ice cream kiosk, plenty of toilets, hand washing and sanitising dispensers everywhere. Welcoming staff on hand to answer your questions, and total immersion in nature, what's not to love? Planning to go back soon and at different seasons in the coming year too!

My children and I really enjoyed our first visit, so much that I’ve become a member. You are refunded your entry costs if you sign up while there, and it works out that after one more visit I’ve got my money back! The canoe safari was amazing, you get an hour for £10 around a maze of a lake it is so much fun! My children enjoyed pond dipping which was free, we found lots of mini beasts and a few newt tadpoles which was exciting. The staff are very friendly and interact well with the children. They learnt how to do a flamingo health check got to do an ‘X-ray’ on their toy flamingo, as well as keep a picture of the ‘X-ray’ to stick in their activity booklet which we enjoyed completing. The surroundings are beautiful with lots of different species of birds to see. Cafe serves nice food and there is a fun play area with a zip line. Good parking facilities and easy to find by car using sat nav. If you are a teacher you can also get free entry for you and your family to see what it’s like incase you want to plan a school trip. We look forward to visiting again!

A beautiful place to see our native wetland wildlife in its own habitat alongside wildfowl from around the world, many in need of conservation support. A great day out for anyone of any age

A great place to bring the grandchildren with easy parking and lots to do to keep them amused. We stopped to eat in the large friendly cafe to fill them up at a reasonable price and took them home tired and happy.

Not everywhere was open to the public when we went, but most of it was. Nice place to visit, very calm, even though it was quite busy. Good information boards outside the enclosures help you identify the birds you're looking at. The harrier House looks particularly impressive. Would definitely go back.

Well worth a visit, lovely walks while admiring the birds ( and otters), plus a really nice cafe with a good selection of hot and cold meals.

Great place to visit for bird spotters and families. Loads to see and do. Nice cafe and play areas for kids. Bird spotting paradise, it's a chance to get up close to lots of different types of birds.

Last visited 36 years ago, the site has expanded considerably since then. The 'new' hides and reed walk are excellent (please explain to your kids that they need to be quiet in and around the hides!) The Otters were fantastic.

Had a brilliant day out with the family. As a trust member we get unlimited access for £8 for the family and between the beautiful wildlife and the park and plentiful picnic areas our money is well spent. Brilliant day out.

Lovely day out, was pleasantly surprised by this place. So much to see, and the place is really lovely to walk around. For the price, you really got a days worth of fun for all ages.

We (3 adults) spent a couple of hours here on a cold day. It was lovely to see all the different wildfowl. It is good value for the size, with free carers and discounts available for students, pensioners, and unemployed. There are talks and feeds at intervals throughout the day. The site is accessible (there are small wild areas that may not accommodate pushchairs or wheelchairs). The trails are paved and there are plenty of benches dotted around. There are also plenty of toilets, including accessible toilets. We spent just over an hour seeing the wildfowl and learning about them from the information boards, then we listened to the otter talk before having a warming drink and snack in the cafe (a little expensive but good food, good service, and a clean and spacious area. On a warmer day, we might have spent longer there. It's a good place for all ages to enjoy.

Fantastic family day at this lovely wetland centre near Ormskirk. We did the Easter duck hunt which my children 10 & 7 loved. We also hired canoes which was lots of fun. Free parking and cafe on site, also a good playground. Staff were very friendly, I would definitely return we all had a lovely day.

The Rider Ducks aka Sarcastic Ducks are great lovely pastel colours but just Google the sound of one. The noise they make is funny. Great place, great variety of wild birdlife, cafe and facilities. Highly recommended 😃

I like it here, peaceful and pretty, canoe safari a must (costs extra and is worth it), good variety of birds and otters too. We're members as a family and so also not expensive for us, had it been a one-off visit at full price it might have been a 4 star but it is well worth the visit either way. Cafe is pretty good too, not sure if that is fully open yet though saw people in the outdoor seating part today.

As usual a relaxing visit to this haven. Busy with happy children enjoying wildlife up close. Highly recommended. Sign up to a membership and receive a free gift, more cost effective plus you are supporting the Wetland Trust, and you will want visit again and again. Especially as the geese arrive!!

Many water and hedgerow birds can be seen from hides at close range. Restaurant has good quality food and helpful staff. We enjoyed full english breakfasts with toast and tea. Thick scrumptious bacon and sausage, fresh tomato, tasty hash brown, egg and beans. Well cooked and presented. Set us up for the walk to Ron Barker Hide where we saw Marsh Harriers and Egrets. Good facilities, knowledgeable staff. We love our visits, which are included in our annual membership. A great cause to support.

Got a really good opportunity to get my Canon out and snap some awesome wildlife photos. The canoe ride was so much fun! I had a great day, but was disappointed to find that my RSPB membership did not cover admission.

If your a photographer/bird watcher it's a place for you, cafe and kids play area too so not all for the "nerds" very wheel chair accessible. Tarmac paths or well made paths to travel along. All the hides are well ventilated and from my first visit very impressed with the layout.

Great family day out. With lots to do. So many birds to see and babies too. This Bank Holiday there was much more Art and crafts on. Design your own duck and enter into the competition, to race it. All great fun. The canoes and power boats are great for older kids & teens too. My little girl loves both play areas. Food is great too, both from the Shack and Cafe. Plenty of seating area to have your picnic.

Beautiful place to spend the day, suitable for families and disabled. Watch wildlife, learn about it, care for it and the environment. Have fun on canoes and in play park. Sit in cafe enjoying delicious mains and cakes whilst watching the colony of nesting Black-headed Gulls (who, unlike their greedy larger cousins) totally ignore us humans and our food!

Great day out. There's tonnes to do: boat rides, walks, parks, picnics, building dens, learning about birds, crafts, watching talks/demonstrations, pond dipping. It's immersive and the kids absolutely love it. Plenty of parking, cheap entry for a family with kids under 4, great toilet facilities, plenty of benched areas for picnics, buggy accessible all the way round. We've been a handful of times and will go back, even though it's a long way to drive.

Really relaxing afternoon. Plenty of walks, activities for kids, a cafe by a lake, canoe tours etc, etc. With 10 sites and very reasonably priced annual fee for free yearly to all, what more do you need?

  • 5/5 Michael John F. 1 year ago on Google
A lovely reserve to visit, plenty of walking trails and very modern hides, but also some resident birds nearer the centre if you don't want to do too much walking. There is a really nice cafe on site and the staff were all really welcoming. Saw some Marsh Harriers on our visit and also the resident Otters were really playful and easy to watch.

  • 5/5 Saskia R. 1 year ago on Google
Wonderful place! The birds fly and roam free. Friendly staff. Very flat and good for wheelchair users. Recently installed a changing place toilet with adult changing table and hoist, which was clean and up to standard/checks, and staff were knowledgeable about it. Vegan and gluten free options in the cafe. Love this place. Thank you for a wonderful trip!
