Today we visited the park for the first time and what a great place it is!! There is so much to do and see at the park. My kids and I went to the skate park also visited the large play area but was way too busy. Just next to the play area there is a zip wire and another wooden play area which was almost empty. The park has a cafe and toilets open to the public. There are artist-designed ornamental gardens, events area, play area with splash pad!!! There are many grassed areas and riverside walks for quiet relaxation, picnics and kite flying or more vigorous pursuits such as running and cycling. You can also fish as long as you have obtained a fishing permit. We will definitely be coming back as there is so much to do.

It was a huge park and rides for kids, a separate court for cycles and skates and runing

This is a beautiful Park to walk around. You have the river of course (with lots of ducks, swans etc by it), but also paths around the park itself with lots of little treasures to discover (I will not spoil it by telling you what), a great play area for children and a view of Lumley Castle. You have to lay for car parking but it is reasonable and worth it. There are decent public toilets there too. You can spend ages there with children, but just walking around too. I will be back!

Riverside Park in Chester Le Street is truly a gem of a destination, providing a perfect spot for those seeking to unwind and relax in a beautiful outdoor setting. The park is situated alongside the River Wear, which adds to its charm and beauty, and is home to a delightful array of swans and ducks, who swim and frolic in the river. One of the highlights of Riverside Park is its expansive, well-maintained play park, which is perfect for children of all ages. The play park boasts a range of equipment, including swings, slides, and climbing frames, and is sure to keep little ones entertained for hours on end. Beyond the play park, Riverside Park offers a wealth of open, free spaces for visitors to enjoy. Whether you’re looking to play a game of football, have a picnic with family and friends, or simply take a leisurely stroll, there are plenty of places to do so within the park. The park is also well-equipped with amenities, including public restrooms and ample parking, making it a convenient and accessible destination for visitors of all ages. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to Riverside Park in Chester Le Street. Its picturesque setting, range of activities and facilities, and welcoming atmosphere make it an ideal spot for a day out with the family, a quiet afternoon of relaxation, or a fun-filled gathering with friends.

Beautiful place, nice riverbank walk, unfortunately no toilets open at 6pm in mid-June, not easy with children and babies, also children’s playground needs maintenance soon, most in very bad state, though it is very large and has wide variety for all ages of kids. The car park charges until 8pm which is also off-putting considering other options for late summer nights such as Durham which is free parking almost everywhere after 2pm.

Beautiful family and dog friendly park. There is a food & drinks cabin with purse friendly prices and so much land to explore. I loved the fairy dell gardens, very well kept

Very nice park combining river side walks and views. Plenty of space for walking, running, cycling. Huge play area for young children and for those who like nature plenty of river birds to photograph or even feed.

Amazing park with so much to do. We love this place. It has a large play park suitable for all ages, loads of green space for kick abouts and picnics. It also has a trim trail and zip wire. It's all in great condition too. The best part for us is the free splash pad. My son loves it. It's currently running on timed sessions of 30 minutes with a maximum of 39 kids. The staff operating it are very friendly. The park has a huge car park which is very low priced. I parked for 6 hours for £3.10. It has free (and clean) toilets and a cafe. Plenty of picnic benches too. There were also a few ice cream vans. Today, as it is the 6 weeks holidays, they had a fun fair there. Rides were £2-3 each. It has a lot of grounds to walk in and a small area by the river for feeding ducks. I highly recommend it. We stayed all day.

Nice park in relaxing surroundings. Ideal for the kids to play and in the summer to see and feed the swans Back again 22nd December 2023 very quiet as would be expected and the cafe still open. There was a Grey Heron at its usual spot just below the wear

Lovely park with loads of activities for kids or make your own entertainment. Cafe on site and always a couple of ice cream vans on site. Lovely walks along the river too

The toilets and cafe were closed by 2.30pm and my daughter was desperate for the loo so we had to leave early. The play area could be improved and there is a huge lack of swings for older children. Theres masses of space for running around and plenty of exploring to be had. The swans are friendly we did like the fairy garden though

A lovely park to walk your legs off and watching the swans and ducks swimming in the river always excites the children if you can drag them away from the water park and swings and slides ,all very well maintained and safe. There is a cafe with outside seating were they serve hot and cold food and drinks . A very pleasant place to visit.

Stopped here in October to keep my 7yo entertained while waiting to check in to a hotel. I wasn't expecting much as a park is a park right? I've been telling everyone about it ever since! What a lovely place. There's a wonderful gated play area, with benches inside and out, that has a great variety of play equipment catering to all ages. Even my 27yo 'child'. Outside of that there's a mini zip-line and wooden balance courses, as well as outdoor exercise equipment which was a great addition. (I did also spot a skate park the other side of the field). There was an ice cream van, café, shop and toilets in the grounds. You can get duck food from the café or ice cream van, and feed the ducks at the river that runs alongside. Warning there are A LOT of swans 🤣 . As we went in October the waterpark side was closed but it looked like it would be a lot of fun in the summer!

My first visit to the very popular ParkRun held every Saturday. Really well organised event. Very impressive how the event catered for all abilities. The marshals were friendly and efficient. Great event!!

Beautiful park with a lovely splash pad open over the summer. Major issue was litter, bins were over flowing and rubbish very bad near the picnic tables by the play equipment. This was early Sunday morning, bins should have been emptied Saturday

Great little local park for children and pets (dogs should be on a lead). You can buy bird feed at the little shop near the river but we always go to B&M's before hand for seeds and mealworms. Great open space for picnics and during school holidays there's even a few rides and stalls. Small splash zone park for small children to have a little splash around and keep cool too. Free restrooms on sight and plenty of families enjoying the local amenities.

Lovely park with lots of open space and play areas for children. Water play area open in summer. Good for dog walkers with a lovely walk along the river. Places to picnic and a small cafe selling hot drinks chips etc. And toilets. Parking can be overcrowded but there's lots of overflow car parks near to the cricket club. Reasonable charges.

👍👍 Lovely walk, especially for dogs. Plenty of ground to cover, it is sign posted but quitd easy to get lost. I spent about two hours wandering about the forest and around the river.

👍 I went to a christening here and it's a beautiful church. There are no parking spaces at the church so you'll have to use the main car park opposite the church. It's right next to the road which gets quite busy so keep an eye out for your little ones.
