My
visit
to
Harcourt
Aboretum
today
has
left
me
feeling
a
bit
puzzled.
Pleasant
enough
but
I
won’t
be
rushing
to
go
again.
I
went
expecting
to
learn
something
about
the
trees
growing
here
and
the
work
being
done
but
after
an
hour
walking
a
suggested
trail
I
came
away
none
the
wiser.
Entry
cost
was
£6.30
which
goes
towards
the
upkeep
of
the
site
(I
guess).
Except
I
could
go
for
a
walk
in
any
number
of
woodlands
for
free
and
have
a
similar
experience.
I
suppose
if
you’re
really
interested
and
knowledgeable
about
trees
it
would
be
an
excellent
place
to
visit.
Or
maybe
if
you
want
somewhere
conducive
to
meditation
or
perhaps
a
picnic.
For
me
the
only
slight
advantages
were
a
car
park
included
with
the
entry
fee
and
portaloos
near
the
entrance.
Other
than
that
the
mobile
cafe
was
closed
and
there
were
no
trail
maps
available
for
my
visit
although
I
could’ve
photographed
a
copy
to
use
on
my
phone.
The
site
is
fairly
accessible
with
a
few
minor
inclines.
Paths
are
mostly
packed
stone
or
packed
bark
and
could
be
negotiated
with
a
pram,
buggy
or
electric
wheelchair/mobility
scooter.
The
car
park
has
a
stony
surface
with
a
strengthening
grid
and
is
partly
sheltered
by
the
trees.
