I will pre-empt what may come across as a negative review by saying that I will return with the rest of my family so I am offering what I hope will be taken as constructive. Check-in process was very efficient and Covid-conscious. We scanned the QR and were led to our table which had glass screens between us and the next. Staff were masked up and were very friendly and helpful. Only let down a little at the end as we waited an age for our dishes to be cleared and to be able to pay (had to call them over). We waited quite a while for our main course but I was not really that concerned as I had allowed for enough time. I understand that with only recently coming out of lockdown and a shortage of staff etc etc, things do take longer so overall I was not that fussed and this will hopefully get better as things return to normal. However, to reiterate, staff were very friendly, generally quite efficient and very helpful so well done. A suggestion is that upon arrival, our table was already set. I would probably leave until after guests arrived as customers walking past may contaminate...remember, we are living in a new world so something to consider. Our drinks order was taken quickly and delivered quickly too. My son is a coeliac and we let them know and they confirmed what he could eat after checking to top marks there. He ordered the Bobotie and I ordered the ostrich burger so that he could taste ostrich. In the photo, the burger is disassembled because I requested it that way. Whilst waiting for the meal (which probably took 30 minutes - not complaining pointing out as I had allowed for the time, we were offered some homemade tacos (not GF) and sauce. This was a nice touch and a good plan as customers wait for the main course. There were quite good so well done. The bobotie was excellent. Really tasty and well cooked. The disassembled burger was very well presented too and cooked exceptionally. My (hopefully) constructive criticism starts here. The burger comes with cheese which was not mentioned on the menu. The waitress did however mention it when we were ordering (well done) so I was able to leave it off but it should be clearly disclosed. I was not given a choice in sauce. Both meals only came with the "secret" sauce which to my taste was a thinner version of Mrs. Balls Peach Chutney. Now, I would have preferred a Monkey Gland sauce which I highly recommend BS offers as that is truly South African. The other issue I had was that the burger was so perfectly done but was smothered in the sauce. Your chef is very talented and I wanted to be able to taste the mastery he had presented. Perhaps consider bringing the sauce separately in a little jug. On that note, I asked if they had a sauce with a bit of chilli. What they brought was perfection. I am not a fan of tabasco as it is a little tame but what I got was sublime. Just the right amount of heat that you know it is chilli without being full on Carolina Reaper material. Kudos. I think the prices are reasonable however, the sides probably need to be a little larger...well, certainly on the burger front. I would think a few more chips and onion rings would not go amiss. Lastly, on the chips front, I could have done with them being crisp or certainly showing some colour...personal preference so you may disagree. On this occasion, we ran out of time for dessert but looking forward to trying that. Lastly, despite thinking that the food was very good and the decor had an African theme, something was not gelling for me as I want to really love Braai Shack. There's a lot of African stuff but the place felt devoid of atmosphere. Just no vibe. One of you need to go front of house to chat and show your face. And put on an African themed soundtrack...Hugh Masikela, Miriam Makeba, Just Ginger, Ladysmith Black Mambaso, Youssou N'Dour, Bisso Na Bisso, Angélique Kidjo, Kampi Moto etc. Hell, I would be prepared to lend you my Moyo CD. I know this is long but it was done in earnest to help you up your game from something good to something great.

Here's my very in-depth review of this restaurant and why I'm so shocked to see it has such high reviews. We had a party of 12 and we pre-ordered our food the day before so baffled to why this was such a mess. 1) Our server didn't crack a smile the entire time we were there, she clearly wasn't happy to be in work and it showed. 2) The wait times between our courses was ridiculous. We arrived on time, the waiter came by quickly to confirm pre orders, a few side orders were added to the mains, aside from that nothing changed. We waited another 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive and then another 20 minutes for our starters to come. We thought all was going well but then an entire hour rolled by with no sign of our mains, I asked our waiter how long the food was going to be, she disappeared and we didn't see her again for a while. I then had to get up, to go ask another waiter to find our waiter and see how long the food was going to be. 3) When the food arrived, two of the people ordered the chicken curry, one curry was swimming in oil, the other not. We asked the person who brought the food out if it was meant to be like that, he said yes, we then asked the waiter who said no and it got sent back. 4) Our Mac and cheese was swimming in oil. I know cheese is meant to have oil in it but it was to the point you poured the dish and the oil dripped out. It was also flavourless and penne pasta and not Mac.. 5) My venison was lovely. I ordered it medium rare and was happy until I got about half way through and it started to get bluer and by the end of it, the poor thing was practically kicking again. 6) Two people's hanging kebabs, one was edible, one was so tough that she was literally chewing it for over 5 minutes to try eat it and ended up spitting it out. She left all of it and when collecting food did the waiter ask why an entire meal was left? Nope :) 7) Not sure if it's this type of food but most of the food was very overly salty. 8) My husband had a platter, the majority of his food was very dry (Clearly sat under a heat lamp) he asked me to try some of his food and I was like oh this is lovely pork and then found out that was meant to be the brisket.. The majority of us today aren't feeling well and I just think at an average of £35 a main course, £45+ each for the entire meal, and such a high rating, you expect so much more out of food and service but it was so so so disappointing. On a positive note, a waiter that wasn't our waiter did continuously ask throughout our 1 hour wait if we wanted more drinks and apparently out of the 12 guests at the table, the one person who had the oxtail curry said his curry was nice but it was more tail than ox. So a 1/12 ain't bad...

Absolutely fantastic restaurant, we arrived as the doors opened and were welcomed and seated by friendly staff. Food and drinks arrived quickly and all were of exceptional quality, it was my first time trying ostrich and it exceeded my expectations. Snacks were also brought out in between which was a very nice addition. The others who joined me were also blown away by the meals they had. We will definitely be back soon!

I'd describe the restaurant as cheap and cheerful but it is exceptional in that regard. Nice african decor inside, with a super outdoor seating area with wooden panelling, lights, etc. Steel drum type music really does transport you to somewhere far more exotic that Wolverton! The menu has a very wide range of choice, the food was brilliant for the price e.g. not the best steak / peppercorn sauce I've ever had, but absolutely satisfactory for the price; others had rack of ribs which were huge, some got on really well with them whilst others found them a little tough. Portion size was generous. Service was fantastic, we had a large group but the service was well organised and attentively proactive in keeping drinks topped up, etc. Would visit again if in area.

Having seen the reviews, I was expecting something totally different. Whilst not South African myself, 3 of our party were - and I used to live in central Africa so we all had high expectations. I was hoping for the best peri-peri since I left Malawi. Starters were generally ok: from hot and spicy chicken wings, samosas (me), bruschetta (my partner, who doesn't like a lot of spice), to spicy prawns, salad and Vetkoek. The mains was where it all fell down. Two of us had ordered peri-peri chicken, one had asked for it to be mild and I'd said to go for it. The chicken arrived bathed in a chilli sauce, neither the mild nor the spicy version had much heat and it didn't resemble any peri peri I'd had before - and I've eaten it in Mozambique. The hanging lamb skewers were over cooked (apparently they always cook them that way), full of sinew and virtually inedible. There were two steaks: one sirloin, one t-bone. Both were fatty, full of sinew and the t-bone wasn't a t-bone. We were told that t-bones aren't available in this country (we immediately found them on sale in Tesco - other supermarkets are available). The one successful main was the mutton and potato curry. Desserts - by this time, I'd given up and skipped but they were an improvement: the waffle heaven was good, as was the peppermint cake. The milktart was so cold that it was solid. Will we be back? No. Service was also slow: there were not enough staff to cope with a full restaurant and there were other large parties besides our group of 7. All that being said, they did provide a birthday cake for the youngest of our party.

I cannot recommend this place enough. The food was absolutely amazing and superb value for money. The portions were ample and like I say the taste was out of this world. My in laws are South African and as the restaurant advertise, it really is home away from home, my mother in law was taken back home with the authentic tastes of the dishes. Great service, friendly and welcoming staff. Restaurant and toilets were clean also, really couldn’t fault it. Will certainly be going back

Stopped here while looking for somewhere to eat with the kids and so glad we did. My wife and I share the meat platter and it was delicious. Curried kidney beans and chicken livers on the side were great, really flavoursome. Kids had kebab and a burger that they both enjoyed. Service was friendly and efficient with our waiter polite and only to happy to explain things on the menu that were new to us. Will definitely be going back and reasonably priced.

A great meal, first try of Zebra. Good sized portions and lots to choose from. The restaurant had a vibrant atmosphere and staff were friendly and accommodating. Service was a little slow at times, but it was busy and obviously popular. I would thoroughly recommend a visit, we will be going back to try some other dishes in the near future 😋

We had a wonderful triple birthday celebration last night at Braai Shack. It was our first visit. The restaurant is casually laid back which is typical of Cape Town dining. Our children (17, 15, 13) all found the food tasty and filling. My son commented that it was the best meal we have been out for in a long time! Prices are fair for the quality and quantity you are getting. Favourite dish was the creamy mussels. Meats were all tender and cooked to perfection for our taste. My husband had the mutton curry which was superb. Overall I would highly recommend this place for a special meal with family or friends. Service was brilliant and very friendly. Thanks for a super time!

What an absolute gem, food was insanely amazing, authentic cuisine, mesmerising taste, every single thing about tonight's experience screamed Mzansi/Southern Africa....what perfection. Thank YOU for using the correct home based chefs....you could teach Shaka Zulu Camden a thing or two.... Ps, look into supporting wheelchair accessibility to your restrooms🩷

Incredible Southern African cuisine right in Milton Keynes. Everything we tried was authentic and well presented. The staff was really attentive and generally pleasant through-out. Must try if you need an intro into the cuisine or you simply just miss home!

Location: Easy to find, not in the centre of town so it's not overally busy in that area. There is limited parking outside the front of the restaurant or there is a free car park across the road. Service: After I walked in, I waited to be seated but staff kept walking past me. In the end I had to walk through to the bar and spoke to the bar person, who checked my booking and seated me. After this, however, the staff were attentive and polite. Very friendly and helpful. Food and drink: Great choice and drinks, milkshakes, soft drinks, beers (including from South Africa) and a large cocktail selection. The food is very exotic, ostrich, crocodile and even zebra. As a steak or in burger form. We had burgers and they were delicious and well cooked. Prices were very reasonable, around £20-£25 per person (a main meal and 2 drinks).

We visited the Braai Shack for the first time this evening and all I can say is wow! We ordered the ribs which were absolutely massive, worth every penny. The portions are more than generous and really well cooked and delicious. We'll definitely be back.

This place came highly recommended by a South African friend. The food was amazing. All four of us enjoyed or choices on each course. Service was a bit ropey but I think that was because some of the staff were new and still being trained. It wasn't enough of an issue to negatively impact our experience. The music in the background and the decor added to the ambience. The only minor gripe was drunk customer from the pub next door being escorted from the premises via the restaurant.

This is a really lovely restaurant, highly recommend a visit. I had the Braai Shack Burger which was delicious, possibly the best burger I’ve had. The service was very friendly. Now my new favourite restaurant.

A lovely visit this evening. No sign to say if you seat yourself or not which would be nice. Mixed bag on service one lady very nice one lady needed to at least pretend to be happy working. All the the food was amazing. Biltong sooo fresh. Food was fresh, got a little worried when one main came out before the other when there was only 2 of us but other soon followed. Food hot and tasty, cocktails lovely. Cream soda always good. Sadly no koeksisters, and when the peppermint tart came with areo mint I did laugh but hey better then no mint I suppose. Price you really can't moan I have paid more for a lot worse so will deff be going again. Plenty of parking just down the road nice restaurant inside. I give them a 7/10.

The food was really nice. The staff were so friendly. I have been missing this kind of food for a long time. I came all the way from Scotland and really loved this place. Next time when I am back here, I would definitely come back. Love the music as well, reminds me of back home. Keep up the good work.
