I had my second baby at Wythenshawe Birth Centre and I felt compelled to write a review. I had a wonderful experience here. The birth centre itself is so quiet and calm, a huge difference compared to a busy ward. As soon as I was assessed in triage, I had the care of some absolutely top quality midwives. They were calm, professional and swift in their reactions to my needs. I felt cared for and felt safe throughout my experience. The aftercare was also great. We had to stay in for some additional monitoring and I was looked after really well. The midwives were quick to come in if I pressed the button and checked on me regularly. Itโ€™s reassuring that the Birth Centre is just across from the main hospital in case of emergency or needing to be transferred. The facilities in the birth centre are wonderful. You have your own large room with an en suite, tea and coffee facilities, a huge lava lamp, a water pool, pregnancy ball, birthing bed/beanbag, seats, tv, and a music player to put your iPhone on. It was very private and serene, and I ended up staying in a whole day due to the extra monitoring so I made the most of it! They seemed to make a huge effort to maintain the calm atmosphere. Every member of staff I dealt with was friendly, asked about baby and asked if I needed anything. I also had a lovely staff member (wasnโ€™t actually sure if she was a lactation consultant or a midwife but she was great) give me some helpful breastfeeding assistance. I just regret not choosing Wythenshawe Birth Centre for my first birth too. If youโ€™re looking for a low intervention, unmedicated and/or water birth, I would highly recommend it.

Everything leading up to my birth was good, a few hiccups but felt I was listened to. Fast-forward to after my emergency section, was ignored and told many times it was normal to be experiencing the pain I was in. Was being sent in circles. It was not normal, I ended up having cellulitis and and abcess in my wound. Which managed to burst my wound open twice, I was really ill and was dismissed by the majority of the staff until I was seen by a doctor and kept in for 4 days on iv drip. As a first time mum I I really had to push through some rude and patronising comments such as I was shivering in the height of summer as I was a new mum and probably hadn't had much sleep. Their were a few midwives and nurses that were lovely. Such as shame that others are unpleasant and completely dismiss you

I cannot rate the quality of care here highly enough. After a difficult labour and emergency section we stayed in for four nights with baby in NICU for four. Through every single mental and physical pain the staff took care of us completely and patiently. In labour when things took a dangerous turn we were in and out of theatre within 20 minutes with a highly skilled team that put me at ease in a distressing soituation. When I was exhausted and teary Ade had her arm around me, hugs and something to eat. When I was in pain and struggling, Lucy never made me feel like a burden and helped me straight away. There are so many kind staff members. Thank you xxx

Clean. Bright. Cheerful. Compulsory masks to be worn unless exempt. Excellent and needed security when entering unit, and while visiting due to specialist nature as is Maternity Unit. Completely seperate entrance for scans, checkups etc Needs a seperate room for those waiting for a scan or to see doc due to miscarriage, and NOT be sat next to smiley happy still ecpecting mum's. It's heartbreaking

I couldn't have asked for more. The antenatal care was thorough and personal to me, and I got the birth I wanted in the birthing centre. Postpartum care was also amazing with daily house calls to help establish breastfeeding. I felt supported and listened to throughout, thank you to the team at Wythenshawe

a great team, I couldn't be more proud to have chosen this hospital for my baby. I had a complicated delivery, but everything went well. thanks to NIMO YASSIN, midwife in C2, who has been my Guardian Angel and has taken care of me at all times

We just had our baby in Wythenshawe maternity in Jan 2020 and we couldnโ€™t have had a better experience. The staff take their time in a great way, yet are speedy when they need to be. They are nothing but friendly and helpful and I couldnโ€™t recommend having a baby there more

Being a single man I parked at the maternity entrance to get to the lung dept!! I wasn't visiting to see a new born child but looking at the entrance if one day I end up with a bun in the oven I would highly recommend this place as the nurses are lovely. Definitely the place to go to give birth!

I've just recently had a baby Aug 2022 at Wythenshawe hospital and I had the most pleasant experience on C2 ward. The midwifes and the care I received whilst in their hands was excellent, I could not of asked for more. However my regular check up appointments in the antenatal department did not reflect the same treatment I received on C2 ward. I felt "SOME" members of staff (not all) did not want to be there and it reflected on how they spoke to you and how they treat you. However once I was admitted to have my baby I received nothing but the best care. Thank you to all the girls on C2 ward and all those involved in my care, you are the best x

Absolutely fantastic experience. Initially I had reservations about the maternity unit after reading the reviews. But my experience was 5 stars. A midwife accompanied us through out the day of my c-section, I was never alone. The ward staff were great . Post delivery I had to spend couple of days in paediatric unit too. Very well organized between the two team's though on different ends of the hospital. Overall very good experience from prenatal to post partum care.

The staff in the maternity triage and wards are stacked out but all so lovely and make you feel safe when it can be a really scary time. A particular shout out to the midwives on C3, you were amazing to me both times I have ended up with you and I really appreciate it.

Just been discharged from the hospital. Most amazing staff who genuinely care and support. A massive thank you to Emma Lucy for saving my baby. If it wasnโ€™t for her quick actions I wouldnโ€™t be visiting my little boy. What she has done I will never forget, she is a massive credit to the maternity ward and I will forever be so grateful to her. Thank you Emma

I gave birth at wythenshawe back in mid august. I cannot thank all the staff in maternity enough. If your having a baby and unsure where to give birth I highly recommend wythenshawe. They were absolutely amazing. I ended up needing an emergency c section, the day I went in for pre ops. They recognised straight away that my baby was in distress , within 5 minutes I was gowned up and in theatre. I had to be put to sleep whilst they delivered my baby. Sarah the anesthestist and every single member of staff did everything to make me feel safe and reassured. AJ and Meg were by my side when they administered the GA and just held my hand until I was asleep. The compassion and true care by them and every member of staff in that theatre was amazing. My son was born with the cord around his neck, They ressussatated him and gave him all the care and support he needed. Claire Noor who was the surgeon was so so lovely, she truly cares for each patient individually and was extremely thorough. I ended up being in wythenshawe for 9 days as my little boy had an infection and struggled to feed. Again just every midwife , feeding specialist, mental health team, diabetic team, assistant midwife's, cleaners, admin staff did everything to ensure my little boy was well looked after . I felt so safe on c2 , the staff always made sure me, my partner and son were ok, there was nothing that was too much for them. There was only really one member of staff who does the newborn "MOT" checks that I was not impressed with, as much as she knew a lot and had a lot of knowledge of her job, her bedside manner was non existent, she entered our room without waiting to see if it was ok to come in she then proceeded to take my son without my permission out of the room, it was early and my partner was allowed to stay with me as I was unwell, she didn't wait for us to get changed or wake up properly ! She just walked in, threw the blanket off our son, muttered under her breath how the blanket was unsafe , then walked away with our son whilst introducing herself as she walked out!. In the assesment her manner was rude and to be frank very cold. I asked her if she was going to be doing the heel prick bloods her reply was "what even is that, why would you think I would be doing it?" She also then insulted us regarding our car seat choice advising they were "pointless" , Ann then also told us our blanket was unsafe despite it being with baby since birth!? She then made a joke about how her bedside manner/personality is like miss trunchbull from Matilda !( which just confirms she knows exactly how she behaves and that it's not professional )She made no effort to check on us as parents. I had lost my best friend the day my son was born which was the day before this assesment and my son had a traumatic entry to the world! She then told us that the cord was "loosely" wrapped around his neck so would have been fine! ...this was later dismissed as the notes did not say this and members in theatre stated it was tightly wrapped! so I was very fragile with everything that had happened, Ann made no effort to come across even a little bit compassionate! However, despite this one member of staff, the rest of the ward was amazing, friendly, kind, compassionate, helpful, supportive and the ward it's self was clean and welcoming. Each member of the team went above and beyond. I cannot ever thank them enough . We were so lucky to have been under their care i have named some of the amazing people who were looking after us, however i know I've forgotten some! All the staff are true hereos. Debbie Gemma Emma Holly Alexis Abby Sue Rachel Mi mi Jane Rachael Sofia And just to say too the receptionists, admin staff, and cleaners were so friendly and so so hard working. I always got a hello, a smile , and asking if I needed anything. 5 stars here and no less!!!

Disgusting attitude after initially speaking to 111 they advised me to call the triage here. Who have just fobbed me off as nothing they can do. Probably going to have to go to a&e now. People like these that make you understand why the NHS is struggling! Don't opt to have your baby here look at every other option!

I delivered my baby at Wythenshawe in October, I was in hospital for 5 nights in total from induction to leaving feeling very supported, with my newborn. As a first time Mum I found the advice from the midwives so helpful, especially with feeding. Thank you.

The midwife led centre allowed my partner to have a dignified, comfortable birth. Amazing midwives who, after finding out her birth plan, did everything to help make it happen.
