Mr Aman Coonar performed Thoracic surgery on me. It was a very serious experience, the tumer was very large. The entire procedure took 10 hours. The care I have received during and after my surgery was superb. My entire time in hospital was actually a very pleasant experience. Everyone were very; kind, friendly and helpful. I felt we became friends rather than just patient and carers. 32 pleasant days. Jim Haskins

New home of the Royal Papworth hospital for heart and lung at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Up and running 1-2 weeks now. Amazing site and structure. Can use nearby car park 2. Beautiful seating and a nice outdoor seats for some air. Has WHSmith on site, an eatery and Costa. Magnificent environment and garden with lights giving a great view at night. Also has E-check in kiosks.

My general experience at hospital was always very good, people are very polite, welcoming, helpful, it's a 5 stars experience if you could walk in there. If you came by a car like 99% of patients then you had to park at the close parking Car Park 2 operated by Saba. If your visit lasted between 2 and 4 hours like 90% of those at the day ward then you had to pay Β£10.20 for the parking. Yes, it's more then Β£10 nowadays. it could be half that sum but you'll find out about it after you come back home and it will be too late for the refund because they accepting discounts only when you show your appointment letter at the Car Park reception. No phone calls or emails will save you later, you paid, you didn't read the small print, you are a looser and that's why you pay Β£10.20! I met 3 receptionists, 2 nurses and one doctor during my visit and no one told me about Car Park rip-off charges. It's a crime on my wallet in broad daylight, thanks!

Papworth used to be excellent but our last experience was horrendous. None of the consultants/surgeons would take responsibility, the majority of the nursing staff were very poor, no real care and they were frightened to get a doctor when things were beyond their capability. The whole place was geared towards NHS staff welfare above and beyond the patients and visitors needs. It was a dreadful experience At weekends there seemed to be no doctors on at all and nurses wee trying to fathom out problems on their own - why is that?

Inpatient 2022, follow up September 2023: this is a world renowned hospital specialising in lung and heart transplants. The hospital has disabled parking outside the front and in the multi-storey car park. The hospital is very modern and very clean and very large. It has a lovely outside area near the cafe by a pond with plenty of seating. They use screens to direct you to where your appointment will be and your name shows on the screen- but they ask if you are happy for this to happen when you check in at reception and there is an option to use a pseudonym. There are lovely additions such as antique equipment/memorabilia/uniforms on display and artwork. There are casts of the surgeon’s hands who performed their first transplants too. All the staff I came into contact with were very friendly. The doctors and nurses saved my life when I was here in December.

What is there to not like? All staff are so caring and dedicated in their roles and positions, you know that if you are a patient here that you are in the caring and capable hands of some of the world's most renowned Cardiac Consultants whose sole aim is you. You are not just another hospital patient, you are their patient and the care and support from all the staff is fantastic, all have a positive attitude and you can talk to them not just as a patient but as a friend too. I have been a patient at the old and new RPH for over 8yrs as were both my parents. I was a patient at RPH on 3 South West Ward in 2022 for heart treatment and I was so well looked after by all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they were all wonderful, friendly and professional. Although the staff may well have forgotten me already purely on the fact that they see so many people in a week/month, I will never forget them. So many times you hear the phrase "I don't want to see you again" which is said in a meaningful way because of the setting but I would like to see all the staff again but in different circumstances, out shopping, walking etc. I must also mention the catering. A fantastic menu, quality food, fresh ingredients and huge choice, just brilliant and served up by friendly catering staff. I also have regular email and telephone contact with my Consultant and his Secretary and if I have any issues or concerns, I can be in touch with them. They are all so good and it is very reassuring to know that they are there. Royal Papworth Hospital, my heroes.

I was taken to the Royal Papworth by the paramedics on Friday night. Following my procedure to have a stent inserted I was transferred to 3 South East Ward and then on to 4 North West ward. It didn't seem to matter which doctors, nurses, or any other members of back up staff who were working nothing changed as far as the care, commitment, professionalism and friendlyness were concerned. Both rooms that I was in were absolutely spotless and well equipped. I cannot speak highly enough for every member of staff and thank them sincerely for getting me on the road to recovery so quickly!

The staff inside are all incredible, helpful and friendly. In regards to the complaints about the cost of the car park, you can get half price car parking! You need to take your parking ticket and appointment letter into the PALS corridor, to the cashiers window and someone will validate it for you. It's still expensive, but this trick will save you some money. The PALS corridor is behind you, slightly to the left as you walk into reception. Facilities are modern, clean, efficient and the services they offer are second to none that I have come across.

When having to go through such gruelling surgery the one thing you need is to feel cared for and to feel safe in the environment and that is exactly what my husband experienced. Second to none care , absolutely fantastic Staff from beginning to end .

I would like to thank all the surgeons ,doctors ,nursing staff , porters and the people that provide the fantastic food. My mother has been in and out of hospital for the last 2 years. She has now had her pacemaker and Node Ablation completed now and feels so much better. I would like to thank everyone for giving me longer with my mother. This is a fantastic hospital and the care is excellent. I couldn't go to see her because of Covid, but I could phone her though out the day . Thank you Karen

Just spent a week at Papworth having open heart surgery, and have nothing but positives to say about this wonderful hospital. I feel incredibly fortunate and privileged to have received such world class and ground breaking care in my home town. Staff members at all levels just seem to have this spirit about them, and although a hospital must have a hierarchy in terms of day to day management, I can honestly say that everyone from cleaner to surgeon impacted me in a positive way on some level. A truly diverse organisation too, a real vision of the future. Too many bad things are said about the NHS, I didn’t see any evidence of anything but positives here. I don’t think anyone would work for the NHS if they were not on some level wanting to β€˜make a difference’, it’s just not that kind of place. It’s time to pay these people what they deserve. The idea that an investment banker earns more than a senior nurse or junior doctor (or even surgeon to be honest) is frankly obscene. Surgery is always tough, but thank you Papworth for making my transition back to normality as painless as possible, and for your extremely high level of professional and compassionate care.

What a wonderful place! Very clean and all staff look immaculate. I had thoracic surgery here by Dr Peryt and team and my stay was extremely pleasant. Rooms are simply perfect. Unfortunately Addenbrooks have stated my surgery left me with a paralysed left diaphragm however no-one can be 100% certain of that and I was made aware of the risks involved so I have no ill feelings it's just one of those things. My only gripe is the lifts in the carparks could be slightly bigger as I use a wheelchair and was quite tight and depending on which exit you use the signs could be better. I also had to collect a sleep study and I telephoned beforehand stating I could not return by hand the following day as I live far so was told to ask for a returns envelope. When I arrived to collect the sleep study the lady was slightly rude and said we don't do that but then went away and came back with a returns envelope, quite odd.

I’ve been under the care of Papworth since last year and the care i have received is faultless. All the staff I’ve encountered have been friendly, professional and put you at ease. I have always been seen promptly, as per my appointment time, and correspondence is always clear and letters are issued without delay. The hospital is clean and well signposted within the building and if i had to be treated anywhere then I am thankful it is here.

Did nothing for the first 4 weeks of my dad being an impatient, he was walking when he went in, after the 4 weeks of nothing he was unable to get out of bed. After faffing around he got so bad that they couldn’t do the operation he needed. He died in that hospital because of the lack of care, skills and just common sense that hospital has. We used to praise the NHS, now we can never forgive them. The NHS is failing.

Family member went in on urgent request, took them 4 weeks to even do anything, fanily member dies when they finally decide to attempt anything which is obviously too late. Shocking organization, half the nurses dont deserve to be there. The surgeons are a joke. Dr P and Dr B, you'll know who they are. And by the way, as an critical care nurse, DON'T be sat on your phone for long periods of time. You kretin.

At a time when you have so many fears everyone at Papworth, during my stay and surgery, from 23 September to 9 October, I have never felt so at ease. The levels of care and skill were beyond my comprehension from the guys who looked after me and my room, the nurses who looked me over this period and the surgeons, doctors, nurses whose skill and care were nothing short of fantastic. Thank you all doesn’t even come close x

I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to the all staff, specially Ewa and Kelley on 3 South East Ward. Doctors and nurses are full of understanding and humanity. They are really professionals not just with their hard work but also with their attitude to the all people not just to the patients. May God bless you and give you strength and capability to safe the lifes to the people. Jesus loves you all.

I had lung volume reduction surgery by Mr Peryt and his team which are probably some of the best in the UK. I spent the next 6 days and nights on wards 5 south, the nurses and carers cleaners all work so hard to care for patients, a special mention to nurse Freya for her rendition of "I want to break free" most mornings before her shift ended just enlightened the day.

Really poorly signposted. My 83 year old mother really struggled to drive there and got lost, then a couple of workers had to get into her car to kindly direct her there, of course exposing her to covid. It seems such a basic thing to do, signpost it from the m11

My experience at Papworth was superb until discharge which is not very well organised and the ladies in discharge lounge were getting questioned how long for the Meds by patients ? This really needs to be looked at as it destroys all the great work done before you get to this stage of your time in Papworth. Patients need to have there expectations managed and I would say a max of 1 hr wait.

Really disappointed that a good friend of mine, is unable to get the medication she desperately needs, due to annual leave at the hospital. She requires a picc line to be fitted to get on top of an infection, but has been told only 1 person at the hospital can do these and there are delays due to holiday. My friend knows from experience that not acting quickly, means a struggle and potential hospitalisation if the infection is allowed to run rife. A dangerous situation for her due to the complexities of her illness. In addition - delays in treatment, will lead to further delays in her receiving her pain relief meds. She is currently in daily agony and in pain, bed bound with a small child to look after. Surely another member of staff or even hospital could look to get her the treatment she needs. Her care has been brilliant to this point but this doesn’t feel good enough :( It’s miserable

Everything was fine, the place , the receptionists and the doctor, however, they didn’t want to proceed with my case. I have an abnormality in my back that can effect the spine but they said since it doesn’t hurt you we can’t remove it! Seriously?!

The doctors and nurses and overall staff are excellent however management needs to organise some training for the doormen who seem to be on a constant power trip. Having a close relative on life support is distressing enough, no need for a doorman to put you down even more. Aside from that, probably due to Covid, children are not allowed in, not even to use the toilet after a long drive. Instead, the doormen again send you on a long walk to the other nearby hospitals. Parking is a rip-off.

Security idiots at main entrance are RUDE and do jot remotely have any interest in you or what you have to say. Had to return an electronic personal health data instrument to a clinic (which i was liable for in case lost, damaged or not returned punctually). Rude man at security grabbed item from my hand and said he would deliver it accordingly and that I had no reason to enter the hospital !!! Bloody Disgraceful as I was the patient !!!!! Furthermore, disabled parking should be just that, for blue badge holders - NOT delivery vehicles !

Last Friday O had a CT scan appointment at 3.40 pm. I mention this as it may be a different experience at other times. It was a most harmonious experience. Because I have a Blue Badge my son and I were able to park just outside the front entrance. Just allowing time for my son to get us coffees from the very accessible coffee shop, I managed to get a slurp before being called in to the section. Straight into clean cubicle for changing, another slurp and called to take my scan. All over and changed, back out in half an hour, slurp of very cold coffee, goodbye to friendly staff and off back home. Wonderful.
