    I cried the entire time I was there. So painfully beautiful. Especially the sacks of dog shite scattered so artfully around the base.

    Placed here on the northern boundary in 1934 from Wrest Park by the extravagant bon vivant and owner of Trent House, Sir Phillip Sassoon. The aesthetics of the vista and perspective approaching uphill through the wood-lined clearing off-set by the hubris and niggling disquiet once arriving at the Grade II Listed obelisk (bearing an incorrect date.) A line from Shelley’s “Ozymandias” comes to mind; ...” Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair...” ...

    Always worth the climb to sit on the bench at its foot. Will be even better when the Trent House refurbishment is finished.
