My wife and I rode the train from Haverthwaite to Lakeside where we then caught the boat. There is a large car park at the station where all day parking costs just £2.50. The train ride takes about 20 minutes in total and is very pleasant, passing by lush fields, rivers and greenery. If you are also riding the boat from Lakeside we'd definitely recommend bolting this on as it's a very convenient way to park and is a wonderful addition to an already great round trip. The cafe also has a nice range of food and drinks but unfortunately wasn't serving hot food on our visit. All-in-all, a good and enjoyable experience.

We had a lovey time at this heritage railway. Staff were so helpful and made us feel welcome. The walk to the viewing point was nice and the childrens play area was good too. The trains in the engine house were amazing to look at. The tea room was great too with a lovely fire to keep everyone warm. The train ride to lakeside was good with some good views. I would recommend this.

Lovely little adventure, especially for little ones. Plenty of carriages but it does get very busy in peak season. Shops at both ends and places to get snacks or visit. Use the toilets at the station and not the single toilet they on the train. Journey time is about 10 - 15 mins.

Did a return trip up to the lakes. Great ride on the train, nice gift shop and tearoom. Staff helpful and friendly. Surprised to have to pay £2.50 to park tho!

A lovely steam railway! Lots of big clean carriages but it needs it - very busy in August. Nice cafe and play area at Haverthwaite, spend an hour or so there and get the train back.

Good experience and the kids enjoyed it. Its a short 20 minute ride there and 20 minutes back. Train runs every hour until the last train. The stop at Haverthwaite is good. Cafe, gift shop, playground and a good walk in the woods. Personally think it's a bit expensive for what it is but definitely good to experience once at least.

Nice ride there and back 20 mins each way. Best to get the train straight back as nothing much at or around station. Tickets weren't checked in either direction. Nice scenery although the lights in carriages were off making inside very dark especially going through the tunnel. Nice to have been on a steam engine but nothing exciting.

What an amazing place. If you want bags of nostalgia you'll get it here. Lovely staff, so approachable, always happy to chat about the trains. Great experience. The guy who directs you to park is so jolly, what an asset. If you want un interrupted photos go early.

Tremendous little, short steam heritage line. All goes very slowly and very short run. However great food at either end and directly connects with the Windermere cruise - literally a few steps across!! A nice experience.

Very nice but short trip with an steam engine (aren't fun things always too short?). Very dedicated people who know their jobs (or should I say their hobbies?). Also very cosy teashop where they serve hot dishes and cake in a former station building. Has next to it a souvenir shop. Don't forget to take a look in the engine shed. ( and just take the next train so you can have a lovely piece of cake)

What a wonderful experience! It takes about 20 min one way. The train is beautiful. I recommend taking the first one. During the day it gets rather busy. We enjoyed it tremendously and I would highly recommend it.

Took my 6 year old granddaughter on both the train and then the boat to Bowness. Very enjoyable , good facilities and bar on the boat. The only downside is that we went at the end of October and the train was full so i could imagine it might be standing room only in summer. Get on at the starting point of Haverthwaite rather than Newby Bridge for a better chance of a seat

It was truly an amazing place, with nature and a large lake, hanging forests and ancient houses. I spent a beautiful moment in the company of my family. We breathed a sigh of relief. Do not forget the experience of boarding the crouse. It is worth the experience.

My little boy (18 months) is obsessed with Steam Trains and this place does not disappoint. Lovely cafe on the Haverthwaite side. Great aquarium if you want to extend you stay on the Lakeside side. Train journey is long enough to enjoy and short enough that the little ones do not get restless! Would definitely recommend.

Great service, brilliant experience. The train goes between different locations and you can buy tickets to suit your journey. Trains are frequent. There is a station cafe selling local homemade food and drink. There is an engine room available to have a look in. Very good value for money. Highlight of our trip.

The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway is an interesting and recommended excursion. The 5.1-kilometre-long heritage railway dating back to the 1850s is a popular attraction in Cumbria and the journey allows passengers to enjoy the scenic lake view and Haverthwaite village. The Haverthwaite old-fashioned steam train experience was relaxing and there were not too many people on board during the weekdays. The train is well maintained but the journey was rather short. It would have been more enjoyable if the ride is much longer. I would definitely recommend this unique experience for those who planned to visit the Lake District.

Awsome place great journey £8 return to lakeside on the other side there is nothing to do unless you book a cruise. The platform food was cheap and quick. Parking £2 all day all in all decent experience even in poor weather

A great wee trip for my son and I . We bought the combo ticket for the train and aquarium, which was good value. The ride is short, and the view not particularly spectacular (best view from the right hand side heading to Lakeside), but it's very atmospheric, and a real experience for the kids. Cafes and gift shops at both ends, and purchases at Haverthwaite help keep the railway running.

Super steam train with a nice short journey which is great for young children. Enough of a trip to be exciting but not so long that it doesn’t keep their attention. Nice play area and gift shop too for a full morning/afternoon out.

Brilliant afternoon. Loved seeing the trains in the shed getting restored. My dog Blaze absolutely loved his journey on the train. Then to top his exciting day off he got to stand on the bridge watching it go underneath. Excellent.

First visit here and a really nice place! The station is very well presented, with additional buildings in period style. There's good access, ample parking and toilets including baby changing facilities. There's a cafe on site as well as a gift shop. There is a play area for the kids and anyone to rest while others travel on the train. There's also a nice walk up into the trees offering great views over the valley. The engine shed is currently open.

Fabulous little railway, well preserved and interesting. Station staffed by friendly folk and the train ride just so like going back in time. Very modest prices and cafe produce excellent cakes definitely. Really enjoyed our trip. Thank you...

Wonderful steam train ride. This was followed with the most enormous breakfast which tasted amazing in the station cafe. Dogs are welcome on both the train and in the cafe. Well worth a visit.

Great little steam railway. We booked it at Windermere combining it with a boat cruise down from Bowness on Windermere. Takes you back in time seeing the steam train and getting on one. Also there is an engine shed to look around which is quite interesting and a nice little shop selling souvenirs and little snacks. Just a shame the weather was a washout the day we did it so missed all the nice scenery due to the cloud. Will defo be doing again at somepoint for sure.

Great for children. Cafe and gift shop at both ends and the journey is only 20 mins or so each way and regular enough for you to stop and explore. You travel near the river and country side, however it is a brief journey, maybe sufficient enough if you’ve small children. Prices were reasonable. We combined out train ticket with aquarium, giving a great discount for all. Aquarium and boat at one end, so take time for those

Wonderful trip down memory lane. The station and engine shed are well kept and lovely to look around. All the staff and volunteers were very friendly and welcoming. The engines and vehicles are beautifully well kept. Our 2.5 year old loved getting up close to the trains, diggers and fire engines. The train journey goes through interesting scenery with lots of things to look out for. A bonus that there is baby changing in the station toilets but we did have to wait as it's in a normal cubicle which someone was using without realising. A bit strange that you have to pay for parking on top of the train ticket price.

The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway offered a delightful experience. After a scenic cruise, the steam engine train ride provided a short but sweet journey through the stunning Lake District landscapes. The tea room at the station was cozy, and the gift shop had unique souvenirs. Convenient parking made it hassle-free. Highly recommend for a memorable Lake District visit!

Beautiful old worldly steam train journey at an old fashioned slower pace much different from the modern world. We were straight of the boat and onto the train in no time for some fantastic scenic scenery along railway route. Don’t forget your beer from Haverthwaite Railway. Apparently they aren’t running out!

Was a fab experience. Came here as we was holidaying in the area. The train was hot as it was a hot summers day but the conductor was nice had a bit of a laugh. Great experience as not been on a steam train since I was a kid. Definitely would visit again if had chance.

We had a wonderful time catching the steam train. They have kept the stations beautiful. Staff were helpful and nice little selection of things to do for all the family at the other end. Beautiful location and lovely to sit back and enjoy the ride. Childrens Park was perfect. Well worth a visit

Brilliant day out. Steam train journey to Lakeside and back. On arriving at Lake Side visited the aquarium beside station, plus the quayside, where trips can be made for a cruise around Lake Windermere . At Haverthwaite there,s a large car park. Toilets on platform. Reasonable prices. Well worth a trip. Excellent!......!!!!!!

Had a lovely visit to the railway today. The shop is well stocked, as is the café. The engine shed is open to look around with many interesting vehicles, both restored and work in progress. The family really enjoyed the train ride with a 20min stop over at lakeside before riding back. You can spend longer if you wish as the only limitation is the last train time. Thank you to all the staff who most welcoming. Overall a lovely afternoon and good value as well.

Lovely train journey very reasonably priced and I combined it with the boat journey up the lakes. Well timed, organised and friendly staff. Well worthwhile the whole thing, put a very nice day in for not a lot of money
