Brilliant day out for the family. The mainline train stops directly outside the entrance to the Fairbourne railway so it's only a few steps to the train. The staff are volunteers and are lovely and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The train itself is great to ride on. Although the carriages are small there is plenty of room to sit comfortably and there is even room for folded pushchairs and for wheelchairs too. I would definitely recommend visiting on a clear day so you can appreciate all the views on route. The timing of the trains means you can have an hour at Fairbourne to either have a picnic or explore the sand dunes and have a drink in the cafe before heading back. Alternatively you can get the ferry across the estuary into Barmouth which takes a few minutes. A really enjoyable family day out and great value for money as you can return throughout the year providing you keep hold of the ticket.

Fabulous little railway and really friendly staff. We walked over the railway viaduct from Barmouth, along the Cross Britain Way, up the Arthog waterfalls , along Ffordd Ddu and down to the train at Fairbourne. Took the little train to the ferry back to Barmouth. A really stunning walk with steam train and ferry - perfect 😁

Always an excellent thing to do when we visit Wales. It is a charity and run by volunteers - a wonderful little trip to Fairbourne point and back. If you buy a ticket and select gift aid, you are able to travel for free for the rest of the year, just keep hold of your ticket and they will issue new on the days ones each time.

Fairbourne Railway is another of North Wales' fine inventory of steam railways. It is hard to avoid the lure of steam, and a railway connects the village to Harbour View Cafe about two miles north on the shore of the Mawddach Estuary, where travellers can conveniently hop another ride on the Barmouth Harbour Ferry to visit the Barmouth's seaside attractions.

Great little train. If you gift aid you can visit free for a year! Friendly staff. Nice little cafe. Interesting small museum on site giving history of the fairbourne railway that began as a horse drawn tram! Well maintained public toilets nearby. Recommend

Had an enjoyable day out by taking the ferry across Barmouth harbour, the caught the little steam train to Fairbourne. Had a walk along the walked sea defence to look at the old concrete war defences. The little steam train is a great ride and really enjoyable.

Took the family here. Interesting place with a cafe and little model railway. Caught the train up to Barmouth Ferry point which was really good. Another cafe at the end. Ferry is a little boat taking about 8 people at a time and it was £3 a person each way. This isn't part of Railway, just a cost to consider if you want to make it over to Barmouth and back.

We stayed near the fairbourne village and enjoyed this beautiful train ride to the barmouth bridge. The staff were very friendly and answered our questions very well. The train ride is about 20-25 minutes and with lovely weather it was a beautiful ride. From barmouth stop, one could take the ferry to barmouth and enjoy the beach and the walk through the barmouth bridge. It was a very lovely visit. Worth spending half a day or more in this place.

This is a narrow gauge railway at Fairbourne, north west Wales. There is a diesel engine and steam engines and a choice of carriages. There is a gift shop and cafe, small museum and an engine shed. It runs down to the coast to meet the Barmouth ferry, making a nice day out. Pleasant walks and various requests stop along the way. Reasonably priced. Includes special events throughout the year for train enthustiast. They have their own website. Toddlers playroom and indoor working model railway

Time travel exists! Riding this miniature steam railway is like an adventure back in time. So cute. You travel thru a proper tunnel and along the water's edge. Absolutely loved it!

A steam train ride at the seaside, just under two miles long from Fairbourne village to Barmouth Ferry / Penrhyn Point. The train carriages are quite small and are a mixture of open top and enclosed coaches. Fairbourne station has a little café and a model railway that the children can drive by pressing a button. The steam train ride takes around 20 minutes in each direction. Barmouth Ferry Station has picnic tables, toilets and a pedestrian ferry that goes to and from Barmouth across the river. A café is also open at this station on the 'peak service' days. A return train ticket is valid all day for as many rides as you like and if you fill in the gift aid form your ticket is then valid for a whole year!

Wonderful little railway in a lovely unspoilt part of Wales. Run by volunteers who do a great job and nice little cafe.

👍👍 Lovely beach, easily accessible. Park, walk 50m and you're on the beach. Walk another 100m and you're at a cafe with toilets. Much nicer than Barmouth, less busy and more interesting ecologically, with salt marshes and plenty of hikes around.
