This church may be tiny but it's very old and very moody! There is a real feeling of age and history here and it's well worth a look. On a sunny day the photos are great! (See my pics below).

This was at one point a larger chapel and also part of an estate but all that is left is a fairly intact chapel in a field on its own. It is looked after by the Churches Conservation Trust (CCT). It is advisable to have good footwear as, when I went, the field was still quite damp after the wet winter. There is a lay-by to park in very close as well. The chapel is quite basic inside but in good condition. It is likely survivors from the battle of Towton sheltered there as the chapel is within a mile of the site of the battle.

A beautiful little Chapel in the middle of a field. Great subject for photography. Watch where you are walking when the field is full of sheep, as there are lots of poo about. There is also the Crooked Billet pub, that serves delicious home made food at the entrance to the field. You will not be disappointed.

All that remains of the village of Lead is the chapel of St Mary, which belonged to a large Manor House belonging to the Tyas family in the 14th century. No expense was spared in building this chapel; it was originally twice its current size, the windows are very fine, and its roof was gilded with gold! Today, the chapel is very simple and has a lovely calm atmosphere.

It's a beautiful chapel situated in a field just off the B1217. Accessible by public right of way over the field, but it is a field actively used by livestock. A long history dating back to the 1300s.
